My 12-yr-old son is there today visiting the bridge and sent me a photo of him giving it a hug, which feels like the appropriate response to the beauty and magnificence of engineering. :) And i kinda wanna be called "Bridgemaster" now that i know that that's a thing.
I visited it last week and it is well worth the trip. A magnficent structure and quite breathtaking in its scope. It felt very strange walking over it and looking below. Brunel was a genius. When they built structures in his day they built them to last. Perhaps Brunel's greatest achievements though can still be seen on the Great Western Railway not the one around in his day but the one that passes for a railway service. They still use his tunnels and bridges thank God because if they tried to build some it would be a disaster. He would turn in his grave if he knew of the incompetence and short-sightedness that now pass for our railway system.
I come from bristol .it is a beautifull bridge .but there should be more securities measures to prevent suicide. A good m8 a mine went over 20 years ago .it is known threw Europe and Scandinavia as suicide city .
