332 yard drive at 13 years old. Here I am at 22 can barely get 300. Phenomenal swing, that Karl. Looking forward to seeing you on TV on the tour here in no time.
R.E.S Xtreme I think what he’s saying is he usually shoots 29 on the first 2 holes... it’s a common joke when average players watch really good players
I have followed Karl for years. I am an average golfer, but I broke 80 for the first time ever, recently. It reminded me to come back and watch some old Karl highlights. As I like to tell my dad, my favorite golfers are Rickie Fowler and Karl Vilips. I am waiting for the day that they compete against each other!
Karl used a lot more "Lag" when he was younger, and it was that Lag which generated that clubhead speed he developed to carry the ball 285 yards despite being just 13 years old. On the next round he carried his Drive on to the front of that 295 yard uphill Par 4.
Congratulations Karl. Fantastic effort for a 13 year-old. Probably never been done before. Keep up your hard practice sessions and keep shooting the lights out. :-)
Wow! great play Karl. That putter was on fire! And what an amazing feeling it must be for dad to watch this accomplishment. Nicely done with the video, capturing shots, map view cut scenes, commentary.. really the whole thing. Good luck
Thanks Stuart, It certainly was. It was also on fire the previous tournament with back-to-back 65's and a 14-shot win against the 18-year-olds on a Donald Ross layout in Pinehurst. That round is also on video immediately before the one you just viewed. Cheers
I love watching your videos of Karl playing golf. The smile to his dad at 12:47 is priceless, Karl's dad must me very happy. Great job and congratulate to both. 🙏
WOW that`s just the opposite of here up North in England UK.We get the much rain sometimes we need a large spoon to pop the ball up out of it`s pitch mark on the green hehe.
+Dan Han I just turned 15 and have a 9 handicap, makes me look like shit. there was a point when i was like 8 and I once shot a 4 over 38 on the front nine at my course and was having hopes of making tour some day but now I'm happy to shoot around 78 to 75. This kind of thing shows how important a good short game is because I'm the longest junior at my club, I can hit a driver over 300 and I hit a 7 iron around 180 yet if I miss the green I almost always bogey
Well I guess I'll join also. I'm 16 years old and I have a 5 handicap, i hit it bout 280 yards also and iron 7 bout 175 yards, but my shortgame is a pain also.
I've seen this suggestion before but you should make a Q&A video where both you and Karl answer questions from the viewers/fans. Maybe a separate video for the questions also. Cheers from Norway
+samuelbm87 Thanks Samuel. I get accused by some of being biased towards Karl and by others of being too critical, so I keep an open mind with the comments that come in because Karl's fans are entitled to their own opinion. Because I've always coached Karl I know what he's expecting to try to achieve with certain shots despite me being (at times) 200- 300 yards away and using the camera zoom to get the Tee shot, so my commentary is based on what he was expecting as a result. What a lot of folks don't always understand is that Karl's expectations are extremely high- higher than 99% of club golfers, but if we look back at players like Serena Williams or Jordan Spieth at this age, they had the same lofty expectations. Those juniors who are happy with mediocrity will undoubtedly enjoy the game, but will never rise to the top of their sport, so I respect Karl's refusal to settle for less than perfect. That quality can't be taught- even as a toddler down at the playground, Karl always tried to climb the tallest castle, or get across the obstacles as quickly as he could. He would ride his bike as fast as he could when we'd cycle every day despite me asking him to slow down, so that determination has always been there. It's my job as his parent to understand Karl, (which I believe I do), and to work with that. Cheers, Paul (Karl's Dad)
samuelbm87 yea I agree is Dad seems really fair and judges him while when watching and always knows what he should be trying to do & what he is capable of doing so he for sure is a great camera guy commentates very well & definitely isn't to hard on him or too harsh on him he pushes him just a lil bit but that's only because he knows how great of a player his son is when he plays his best I mean he has seen more of his golf shots then anyone so his dad knows what he can do!
Whiteboy CurryII Ah i get it now. Dude....they lost their home and his dad struggled to even pay for his Visa to be able to get him to these events. They are good examples of great men in that they don't go begging for sympathy, or pity, or money, but people who are aware of their situation could help them out. I've said it before and i'll say it again - it should be the responsibility of tour pros to sponsor 2 or 3 promising amateurs from poor backgrounds from their home country.
Wish Carl the best, fantastic with a fantastic attitude,it's a shame the game often comes down to how much money you have, was in a similar position myself (+2 @15 or 16 years of age etc) expenses only get higher when you turn pro, what your doing with RUclips is great, raising his exposure like this gives you the best opportunity of getting Karl a strong sponsor when he does turn professional
Thanks Billy. That's pretty much what they said on the Golf Channel's Morning Drive when Karl was on a few days ago. See www.golfchannel.com/video/australian-junior-vilips-crushes-driver-simulator/ In fact, it was Karl's RUclips channel that got him his scholarships to date. Cheers
granted I'm not as good as karl but I get where yall come from as far as financials go I'm 17 years old and go to school full time and work 2 jobs over the summer to help bring in a little more money in but I find time for golf in the midst of it all. so I'm trying to put myself out there this year and build a solid resume for colleges in hopes one will pick me up and I can better myself through an education somewhere.
Man! Great stuff! I am 14 yrs old and have been playing since I was 2. Have won a few tourneys myself but have never carried a ball 280, my best drive is 275. Karl, you could easily be the next Jason Day of golf. One question or actually a few 1. What tees does Karl play from on a regular basis? 2. What kind of steroid does Karl use? (HAHA) 3. What inspired him to start playing golf? 4. Can I send him my swing so he can give me some pointers? Thanks! Keep it up Koala Karl!! Hope to maybe play a round with u someday!!
That was 2015 when Karl was just 13 years old. As Karl's grown to now be 18, we've gradually firmed up both the flex and the tip of his Driver at each fitting so that he has gotten more accurate whilst gaining a little bit of yardage each year. It's that balance between distance and accuracy that all golfers need to get to their respective "Happy place" with the big stick. A good example is Bryson DC. He's hitting it a country mile now, but when he's off, he's playing his next shot from the next suburb.
Charging you for a practice round???? Don't they know that Karl owns this course? He owned it and to beat the field by 14 shots, I think they should give Karl free rounds...especially for a practice round. Stay hungry Karl, you are on a totally different level than the Country Club brats that were born with a silver spoon.
xNocek Already did. Because Karl is not a US Citizen he isn't eligible, even despite Payne Stewart's Australian widow having recently donated a big chunk of change. Cheers
+Max Proker LOL. He doesn't, trust me. Even the Tour players stuff up the occasional show. Karl does, however, hot if better more often that his counterparts. Cheers

John Meany could be close never know I could see him beating a few D1 guys if he is having a great round like this day he would beat some of them that's for sure
12? Gosh, probably around 280-odd. His carry at age 13 was 285, but his accuracy wasn't so good. Nowadays he's slowed it down and hits most fairways. His latest swing numbers are on the Golf Channel appearance from a few days ago: www.golfchannel.com/video/australian-junior-vilips-crushes-driver-simulator/
Karl Vilips HAHA! I'm 22, with a pretty good ball flight on drives, swinging my fastest I can only carry 260 or 280 when I'm lucky. It's amazing how much he's able to use his lower body to produce that distance! You can see it in his rhythm! Future masters winner for sure!
+Ben Lenahan I know, right? Oh, you should also take that issue up with the entire Stanford team as they also use pushcarts. Lame eh? Oh, I almost forgot. You should really read this article www.golfdigest.com/story/critics-of-college-players-usi
Wow great work. It's nice when a round comes together like that. On the other hand someone needs to teach his playing partners some etiquette, jumping over Karl's line, walking around while he is mid swing, checking their bag mid swing.
+graham klenke no chill? You guys act like your sick. Obviously if you need a 4 handicap and you're 14 then your coach should be teaching you a little more about golf than the etiquette. Obviously Karl could handle that his playing partners were doing that, so I don't know why you should

Florian Schinnerl Good question. It's a good option at young ages, but by age 14 you should be ready to play with Men's irons. It's only the head size that is different. Cheers
Oh ok so does he not compete in any national events? Because having played in them I know you need a certain handicap to qualify for them. When I played in the reed trophy 2 years ago you had to be 5.4 or below. ( reed trophy- under 14 national event, category A)
Karl actually had to miss both The Amateur (aka The British Am) and The Boys Amateur (aka The British Boys) this summer due to the airfare costs, so we haven't got a money tree. (Unfortunately)
332 yard drive at 13 years old. Here I am at 22 can barely get 300. Phenomenal swing, that Karl. Looking forward to seeing you on TV on the tour here in no time.
+Erik Newman Thanks Erik.
that's what I thought too!
I shoot 29 on the front 2 usually.
Beta Vulgaris 😂😂
Beta Vulgaris yea right
R.E.S Xtreme I think what he’s saying is he usually shoots 29 on the first 2 holes... it’s a common joke when average players watch really good players
$79 for a practice round. Nice way of enabling young people within the sport :D
Yeh, really pro-active. Couldn't even use the putting Green after 4pm.
Anton Löfgren at one of the state championship they had 5 dollar practice rounds at a course where pga tour events were
@@Me37368 That's really cheap!
Quality golf! I'll be looking out for Karl on the PGA Tour in a few years time!

As I like to tell my dad, my favorite golfers are Rickie Fowler and Karl Vilips. I am waiting for the day that they compete against each other!
Nice of you to say that about Karl. You'll likely see Karl having at least 1 tour appearance during the 20/21 tour season.
I am a 14 year old golfer and may I say Karl is one of the best golfers I have ever seen at this age group
+Pamela Adams Thank you Pamela.
Congrats on winning the Pac-12, this old video came up on my feed and had to watch again
It's a classic video.
Watching these old vids of Karl, it is crazy to see how much power he can generate!
Karl used a lot more "Lag" when he was younger, and it was that Lag which generated that clubhead speed he developed to carry the ball 285 yards despite being just 13 years old. On the next round he carried his Drive on to the front of that 295 yard uphill Par 4.

I love watching your videos of Karl playing golf. The smile to his dad at 12:47 is priceless, Karl's dad must me very happy. Great job and congratulate to both. 🙏
Thanks for that. To have shot that score without having played the course before was pretty neat.
Go Karl ! Wishing you the best pal, remember to listen to your pop :D
Hi Karl why is that great big fan at the back of the green??
Great swing I`m sure your going to be a Tour winner!!!
They're to stop the Greens getting too hot in the humid South. I originally thought that they were to keep the leaves off. LOL

We have some fans on the Bent Grass greens here in Texas as well. Looks like a hole I played in east texas near Tyler.
Props to Karl for his great play, great focus for such a young age.
Awesome play !!! Love the commentary !!!

It was slightly downhill, but nevertheless, for a 13-year old it wasn't too shabby. Karl now carries 300 with ease.
Has anyone ever played with Karl and recognized him from this channel?

How do you guys afford to travel and let karl play just curious I know its probably very hard
Karl actually had to miss both The Amateur (aka The British Am) and The Boys Amateur (aka The British Boys) this summer due to the airfare costs, so we haven't got a money tree. (Unfortunately)
That talent is scary.
