  • Things got messy! Untangling my yarn stash to take an inventory and decide just what I'm going to do with it across 2025.
You won't believe the other things i found tangled up in there too!
If like me, you're planning to spend 2025 working through your yarn stash. This might inspire you! I sort out my collection and think about knitting and crochet projects that I might want to make with the leftover yarn I have.
Let me know your stash-busting plans too!

I Always recommend the pattern "4 strands" sweater for scraps! You can make a magic ball with all bits and pieces and the hold it with a base colour to get your gauge, it's super fun and very satisfying. I made two! With a grey base and all the colourful pieces made a really unique and fun project.

ooh, I haven't head of this pattern, but I like the sounds of it! The Alone Together sweater that has a similar method i think. I'll go look up the 4 strands sweater now!

    g'day from Australia
I use the Magic Ball mentioned by Alice, held with a main colour - I believe it supports the knots - to make hats, baskets, scarves and lots of other things. Always comes out interesting.
As far as a sweater - any pattern where this yarn combination makes gauge is viable - does not have to be a specially written pattern.

Yes, I agree, you have the potential to follow any pattern as long as you can get gauge! Always fun to see how colourful you can make something. I do like to research for patterns intentionally designed for leftover yarn too :).

i think your stash is a manageable size - mine is the same right now, i think, but my WIP yarn is included in that 3.5kg total, so hopefully (fingers crossed) by this saturday i will be 600-650g down when i finish my cable sweater. most of my yarn is also small quantities, some yarns i have two or three balls of (often in different colour), but mostly it's not enough for a garment. i have way too much sock yarn, and only in 4 stripy colourways, so i'm gonna have to knit a lot of socks this year! my own goal is to reach 1.5kg by june, cause that's when there's a fibre festival in my city (and i may be buying a sweater's quantity of yarn there). my goal should be achievable, because i know i am capable of knitting up about half a kilo of yarn a month, although that's mostly in DK weight - i may be holding some fingering weight sock yarn together to knit some things!
as for very scrappy projects, i'm not entirely at that stage yet, since i have a small collection of scraps in mismatched weights and fibres. for now i'm keeping them as is, to see if it builds up to something that's useable in a scrappy project, but i may just use small amounts in tiny crochet projects, such as flowers or butterflies. i have considered cup coasters/mug rugs, but to be honest, i have plenty of those. i have, however, seen some cute stripy mug rug patterns for very small lengths of scarp yarn, so if it's sth that floats your boat you could check those out for these tiny amounts!

I love that you know that you knit about half a kilo a month, I might start trying to keep track like that :). I also have a lot of small balls of yarn. Good luck getting through yours in time for the fibre festival - what a great aim to have
