- Basic how-to for MAGC. I couldn't find a decent video explaining how this plugin works so here ya go.

Somebody explained how this works. Even Melda do not give a shit to explain their own plugins and then nobody uses them. THANK YOU!
Its funny because I dont think they do it on purpose. I think Melda expects people to figure it out. Its their level of intelligence, to put it nicely.
Melda are the best, I guess the pay off is that you have to be inquisitive and learn how to use the things and then all the genius floods out as Melda are off the scale amazing....I think they left the world behind somewhere....planet Melda.....🤣🥰

@@jasonzdora i noticed from just reading the pdfs it's likely the documentation is automatically generated based off how it's documented in the code. I think that's why for example the documentation for MLoudnessAnalyzer it has "Collapse button minimizes or enlarges the panel to release space for other editors." spammed 10 times in a row lol
I really wish there was a large “look ahead” function so it wouldn’t have to pump like this but still extremely useful! Will be using this very often. Thank you for explaining it! 🙏🙏🙏

He is definitely living in his own world. You are exactly right. You have to be willing to do the work to understand their plugins. The good thing is, if you learn one plugin, you pretty much know how to use all of them.

noir labs volume buddy is the one. zero messing about and its cheap
Noir Labs is awesome! Shortcut Buddy is in my default live set. Only issue, Volume Buddy requires Live Suite which a lot of people dont have. I think this one is accessible to everyone since its free. The only problem was that Melda never explained it properly so I made this video.

Thank you for this explanation - 😀-presumably this is the same or similar to the AGC function in the individual Melda plug ins? For these the convention is to run while trialling settings and then set - but question is can you leave MAGC running during bouncing, or do do you always set it by fixing the output level before bouncing?
I would not leave MAGC running while bouncing. It is constantly re-adjusting your output so its going to be like a really bad quality leveler. I think its meant to be used in the mixing process and then disabled once you get your gain staging correct.
Seem to have it set up the same way but can't get it to work. Does it have to be on a separate track? I've set it to Pre-Fx sidechain on the same track, AU version, might try the VST and see if it helps.
Not sure, man. I know Ableton will let you sidechain within a single channel so maybe take a look at which specific point in that channel you are referencing as your sidechain.

Thanks for the tutorial Jason. As a Melda customer I downloaded this, but can't get it to activate inside Reaper, despite it being a free plugin.
That sounds weird. Do you have any of the other freeMelda plugins? Do they have the same problem?
Do they actually work but they show a red label on them? If so, that is normal. I paid for the "everything" bundle so my free plugins (like MAGC) do not show that red lable.
If they still actually work, you just have to live with that red label.
@@jasonzdoraThat makes sense. I've just got a couple paid Melda products, but the red label MAGC cuts the sound on whichever track I place it on.

@@MartinvonBargen Gotcha. So MAGC is going to be silent until you hook up the sidechain. If nothing is attached to the sidechain, then MAGC thinks it is supposed to be outputting silence.
Doesn't work (Pro Tools) I'm guessing it's not a free one.

If you set the speed too quick, yes. Its not meant to be used as a permanent effect.
Its meant for doing A/B testing of effects chains and then disabling it once you get your gain staging correct.
Unfortunately, this doesn't work with Studio One, since you can't take the track the plugin is on as the source of the sidechain.

Try running the track through a bus with no processing and then just use that bus as the sidechain input?
The first thing I tried. Doesn't work. Neither does setting the track as the source of a second track to be used as a sidechain: Studio One will show neither is the list of potential sidechain channels.@@psychoticchemist
where is this plugin running? On the master? or?
Everything in this video is done on the "drum loop" channel. If youre not an Ableton user, you can tell because that channel is highlighted as a brighter color grey than the rest of the channels.
Could I, in theory just throw this on my master and forget about it? Or would you you (or anyone else here) advice against that somehow?
All depends on what youre goal is. What are you selecting as your sidechain input? I would assume it would be the "start" of your master channel, in order to gain-compensate your master chain?
@@jasonzdora I wanted to see if I could use the plugin as a way of keeping all my tracks within a certain range (gain) at all times, without having to place it on every track.
So I put the Magc on my master today (Ableton) and sidechained it to an audio reference track (around -14 lufs)
Seems to work so far, but it is distorting. Need to also consider dynamics, I don't want it to be squashed, and also the -18db thingy with analog emulation plug-ins. I haven't tested it fully, I will later tho

Alas, this does NOT explain it to me. How can you sidechain the same channel you're in?!?!? It's a feedback loop and doesn't work -- the DAW will not allow it. I'm using Luna. I put MAGC last in the plugin chain and when I click on "SC" in MAGC, I am not allowed the choice of the channel it's on as a sidechain. It allows every other channel, but not the one MAGC is on. I can't imagine any DAW will allow that.... I'm doing something wrong. The Melda manual is TERRIBLE. All their manuals are.
Sorry that Luna does not allow sidechaining on the same channel. Ableton does. Reaper does. You are selecting a sidechain of the raw audio before any plugins. That would not create a feedback loop because the sidechain is never audible.
Maybe you would be better off with some of the other auto gain compensation plugins that I show at the beginning for the video if youre using Luna.

Cubase has the same problem - it is not possible to sidechain from the same channel. BUT the solution is: You have channel 1 with the source signal. No Plugins in this channel and fader must be set to -infinite (otherwise you always hear the source signal additionally)! You send PRE(!)-fader from channel 1 to channel 2. In channel you have first the plugin (e.g. a compressor) and second MAGC.
