Interview With "The Substance" Director/Writer Coralie Fargeat

#TheSubstance had its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where it shocked and stunned the festival audience, ultimately earning the Best Screenplay prize for Director/Writer #CoralieFargeat. It would go on to play in the Midnight Madness section at the Toronto International Film Festival where it would go on to win the People's Choice Award for the special section of the film festival. Only her second feature film (following "Revenge"), Fargeat has proven herself to be a powerhouse storyteller, using every tool at her disposal as a filmmaker for maximum impact on the audience. Her latest is no different, and she was kind enough to spend a few minutes talking with #NextBestPicture Owner & Editor In Chief #MattNeglia about her experience writing, directing, and unleashing the body horror film onto the world, how she feels about the reception it has received, the casting process, what went into the astonishing makeup effects and more. Great interview! What a charming and sharp minded woman she is! I would listen to her talk for hours about all the movie process. I love the moment you asked her about her perspective about people being shocked with the movie. I've always thought that when we are shocked about anything it's because it speaks to us in truth and impact and I love that she aimed at this feeling with no backing up!
