It’s so refreshing to see a software company willing to openly critique it’s past work to explain how and why they’ve improved. It shows a true commitment to users over dev/PR spin and makes for a fascinating product! Your UX designers must love their jobs!
God this looks so good. I just finished up a load of client work and I'm dedicating the next 3 months to Houdini training. My goal for next year is to make it my primary motion graphics / generalist tool, replacing C4D completely. Kudos SideFX for really stepping up your game over the past few years!
I'm not trying to master it in 3 months. I just need to get comfortable enough to make it my primary tool. Right now I'm a bit too slow with it, but I'm getting there :)
James, I would recommend you check out MOPs from the Entagma guys www.motionoperators.com/, it will make your Houdini transition from C4D easier. It's basically most of your MOGRAPH stuff served to you in a sweet easy Houdini plate
Because SideFX is a canadian company based in Toronto and because Montreal is a big CG place in this world, did you know that Softimage and 3DS Max originated in Montreal and that Maya was created in Toronto?
Well, if your computer is an ole 386 with 640k of ram, of course Houdini will run slow on it! :) Be serious, Houdini is all procedural, not the fastest way to implement a 3D app, but definitively the most powerful way to do it!

Houdini is always rocking. Lets put Maya on Side and start using SideFX Houdini.
2 days after publishing on Vimeo?! Anyway, I'm officially retiring 12 years of Maya. We've gone full circle here.
As Maya user, this is mouth watering...
Project Solaris?!?! We want more info about whatever it is. Yes, it caught our attention which is surely what you intended.

Can't wait till October 10th, this is going to be amazing!
Please don't sell houdini to autodesk if they ask! you are the best guys
I thought I had become too old and sceptical to be a fanboy of anything... but this. I'm so goddamned hyped!
Cant wait to try hierarchical scattering, the new fracture patterns and much other features. :)

James Tupper 3 months? More like 3 years, it’s that great!

So, after 3y how does Houdini serves you? :)
As much as i'm happy about the new terrain tools i cant wait for some missing pieces like acculturation of snow/sand/etc, wind and sun erosion etc
Pixologic, SideFX, Allegerothmic, Adobe, The Foundry.
Autodesk is out of the game in "Media & Entertainment playground? What a pity.

Why not just create a tool that can remove all modeling nodes and put final mesh into one polygon node? Just like delete history
Wood would....nice
