CANAL STREET is a major east-west street of over 1 mile (1.6 km) in Lower Manhattan, New York City, United States, running from East Broadway between Essex and Jefferson Streets in the east, to West Street between Watts and Spring Streets in the west. It runs through the neighborhood of Chinatown, and forms the southern boundaries of SoHo and Little Italy as well as the northern boundary of Tribeca. The street acts as a major connector between Jersey City, New Jersey, via the Holland Tunnel (I-78), and Brooklyn in New York City via the Manhattan Bridge. It is a two-way street for most of its length, with two unidirectional stretches between Forsyth Street and the Manhattan Bridge.

This tour takes me back. I directed a documentary following a group of homeless men and women in the Bowery for a year and filmed a lot on Canal Street (two of our subjects lived on the Manhattan Bridge seen at 22:45). It's amazing how people get angry and swear at you for carrying a camera. Do they not realize that there are probably 10 other cameras from businesses and traffic lights filming them? It's not your fault they're on a public sidewalk selling counterfeit goods. So funny. In any case, love watching your videos. Thanks so much.
So many nutcases live in New York City. I don't pity them at all, they belong to jail.
I haven't been to canal street in ages, I didn't realize people were still selling counterfeit goods on the sidewalk. When those guys started cursing it made me concerned for his safety.

Not all people like cameras - its a personal thing. Gov cameras footage it kept in house.

Thx for the amazing full scope walking views of New York and its people. This time you took us off-off Broadway with some nice architecture, interesting and focused pedestrians as well as a sobering view of the "least of those" struggling, transient folks, many of whom seem to be sadly schlepping their belongings in a garbage bag.

You missed quite a few streets starting off with Washington, Watts, Greenwich, Hudson
Varick and 6th Ave. Sorry for pointing it out its just that I grew up in that particular area
back in the 70's until 91. My family had a grocery store between Washington and Geenwich
back then. I notice in all the footage I have seen past and present regarding Manhattan there
is no footage whatsoever not even news footage of the area in question. But nonetheless
thanx for sharing the walk, it brings back good memories.

A lot has changed; to me, it looks kind of dead.
Canal Street in the '90s was the best vibe.
