There are 3 LENNON demos of this song I have found.... The shortest version I have is about 2:00 - and based on the lyrics....the teenager second verse about the band exists and there are NO REFERENCES TO YOKO. Lyrics are less developed here, so it's possible this was the early 1970 demo...during the Plastic Ono Band Sessions. Next I found a version a little longer at 2:40 - this version removes the teenager 2nd verse and uses the 'Now I'm a Man' verse as the 2nd verse and refers to YOKO. Yoko is used in the later verses too - so this demo could be from Feb 1971 during the Imagine Sessions. This one HERE is released on the LENNON ANTHOLOGY BOX - was recorded Early in 1973 Lennon was invited by Starr to go to Sunset Sound Recorders in Los Angeles to help contribute to Ringo, his third studio album. Starr had sent requests to each of the former Beatles for new material, and Lennon revived ‘I’m The Greatest’. He rewrote several of the lines to make them relevant to Starr, and helped arranged the recording. If any of this info is not correct, please reply as I based my info on what research I could find...and so if you have more research...I would like to know!
Your info is accurate, if not a bit speculative with regard to which “I’m the Greatest” demo corresponded to which of Lennon’s relevant projects. However, you made an educated guess and your hypothesis was an interesting and informed one. Thank you.
I don’t know why your picture says “The Beatles”. In spite of the fact that three of the four former Beatles played on this track, it is not Beatles material. Paul is the absent Beatle, by the way.
That is completely inaccurate. “I’m The Greatest” was written by John Lennon for Ringo Starr’s third album (eponymously titled “Ringo”). Paul McCartney has absolutely nothing to do with this track. What is remarkable is that this is the only time 3 of the 4 Beatles recorded anything together between their breakup and John’s murder. It’s also noteworthy that Klaus Voormann (a long term association of The Beatles) and Billy Preston (who’s played for The Beatles a lot of times) were present on this recording. While it is the closest thing we may ever have to another Beatles song, it simply is not one. A picture that would be appropriate would be the cover of the album “Ringo”.

Paul releases Beatles song just with 2 Beatles...

Another bad song with a dumb lyric by Lennon. No wonder he dumped it off on a Ringo.
