      @@Gencturk92 Agreed, Sam Jackson was incredible in Pulp Fiction as well..I just think Landau was just a little better in Ed Wood. And I like Tim Robbins, he was great in The Shawshank Redemption (just like everybody in that film) and he should have been nominated as well..but Morgan Freeman as "Red" was better. The Shawshank Redemption is the greatest and most beautiful film I have ever seen in my life and I've seen a lot of films and a lot of great films. The message of it..my God. Morgan Freeman acted his ass off and narrated the film perfectly. I have actually read online letters from multiple people about how Shawshank stopped them from committing suicide and how it made them not want to give up. Several people. It gives me goosebumps. How that film or The Green Mile for that matter never won even one single Oscar is beyond me. They're both waaaaaaay more than just "prison films". Stephen King and Frank Darabont is an awesome combination. They should collab more.

      All the movies and actors nominated were good. Martin Landau's performance stood out because of his dramatic portrayal of this tragic figure of Mr. Lugosi and the excellent make up job from Rick Baker making Landau into Bela
      Martin as Lugosi in the movie saying the dialog "I have NO home" was just powerful . One would think it was really Bela saying all that in the movie.

    I once used to think that Sam Jackson should have won here, until I finally watched Ed Wood. Words can't describe how spectacular and legendary Martin was in that movie. Martin deserved it, period!! One of THE greatest acting performances of all time. One of the rarest times Oscar got it fully right and gave the award to indeed THE best performance of the year.
    Edit:- Watching Pulp Fiction again, it's a brilliant and complex af performance by Jackson no doubt. Sensational stuff but he was a goddamn lead in that, not supporting. Jackson should have definitely won the lead actor Oscar over Hanks that year. Jackson is no more or less of a lead than Travolta. If anything, Travolta pales in comparison to Jackson a bit in all their shared scenes together, that's how impactful Sam was in Pulp Fiction. Landau though deserved every inch of his Oscar. It's going down as one of the greatest acting performances of all time.

    One of those years that will forever be remembered for the talent that didn't get the support gong. Samuel L was absolutely top class. Sinise plays the Gump role out of his skin. Either one would have cleared the decks in any other year. But Martin Landau as Lugosi, was simply on another plain. Truly deserved.

    To all the idiots who haven't watched Ed Wood and are commenting that SAmuel Jackson was robbed, please go watch the performance first! Samuel Jackson despite giving a great performance was in a role he could have pulled out of his pocket any given day but Martin Landau was so perfectly Bela Lugosi and more importantly SO much out of his comfort zone where every pore of his breathes the character. Talk about PERFECT casting. This is NOT an example of the Academy going wrong or the Oscars being more of a lifetime achievement award.
    "Landau also did extensive research on his subject, watching 25 of Lugosi movies and seven interviews with the man between the years of 1931 and 1956. From this research Landau constructs a Lugosi that is a gruff, grumpy old man who spits out obscenities when provoked. He’s the jaded counterpoint to Wood’s youthful optimism. "
    This portrayal would have gone down as one of the most criminally underrated movie roles ever if Samuel Jackson were to win the Oscar. I am only glad that atleast some people would now commit to watching and looking into this captivating role by an all time great.

    I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Landau in August 2016, barely a year before he passed. Despite having grown up w/ Tim Burton's work ('Batman', 'Beetlejuice', 'Edward Scissorhands', 'Mars Attacks'), it finally took me til just several months ago to see 'Ed Wood'. Was a deserving win.

    Amazing how this 10-year old girl can successfully pronounce every actor's name correctly when I've seen ADULT presenters screw things up! Oh, and this is a VERY RARE case where the Academy got it right. Landau totally deserved this.

    • @TheChannelTV-bt8em
      @TheChannelTV-bt8em 8 лет назад +4

      +drlee2 Not to quibble but she was twelve at the time. And it's really not all that RARE. Come on. Give the academy a break. Landau's award was truly deserved, but there have been many, many others equally so.

    • @drlee2
      @drlee2 8 лет назад +1

      +TheChannel.TV They get it wrong most of the time. They barely even nominate the right actors, much less give it to the most deserving of the ones they actually nominate.

      +drlee2 Don't get testy. Just your opinion, not a fact. They've pissed me off sometimes too, but you can't please everybody. I agree with them more often than not. Mostly the oscar voters have had pretty good taste. Yours, however, is questionable. Maybe you'd like to see Pauly Shore or Hulk Hogan nominated for something?
