    WOW!!! This has been such a magical experience! Somewhat unknowingly, you really bond with Trico as the game continues and it brings that to light with the ending. It’s so beautifully constructed. From the musical composition to all of the work they had to put into making Trico SO real. I find myself thinking of this World long after I’m done playing it. I’ll truly miss Trico.
    I’m so thankful that you all supported me and pushed me to keep stepping forward because, you were absolutely right, this game is worth it.
    So let’s talk about the ending and what we can interpret happened. When I say that the children are the barrels, I really meant that some part of them could be in the barrels. It’s clear the whole place runs on “blue juice” and it seems that that could be a byproduct of the children’s soul, their life force? I’ve been thinking of the ancient civilization as a whole and wondering if the “Master of the Valley” was the cause of it’s demise? Or whatever the orb in the control room was (the mind as I think of it). I also feel that Trico lived on and had a family with the Other Trico who we saw attempting to climb out. I’ve read many opinions on Trico having died and that it had already had a family but, I don’t think that’s true only because the Other Trico wasn’t seen with a baby/there were no signs of a baby during the game. I also feel that the mirror the boy was holding was connected to Trico and that’s who responded in the darkness of the cave. The cave that Trico was originally found in and knew helped bring her back to life. In an animals mind, these places mean a safe upbringing for their young.
    These are just my guesses though! You all will have to let me know your thoughts below! On to the next Journey!

      Thanks for the best playthrough I ever seen. So emotional. Voting for Heavy Rain before Beyond: Two Souls. Would also recommend Resident Evil 7 and Evil Within 1 and 2. If you haven't played them.

      I am Highly agree with that. Heavy Rain/ Beyond Two Souls is a Real Master Piece, about Resident Evil 7 and Evil Within 1-2 This Survival Horror Games was the Ultimate Challenge, if Marz can beat oen of these Games she deserved the Highest Title in the World The Goddess of Survival Horror Games :D.

      I would love to have seen you play the Walking dead, but you allready played it, so you don't need to replay season 1 and cry again for our sake.
      I know those in line are Heavy Rain (so damn good game, you wont be prepare), Beyond two souls (never played it).
      But I do have a strange request, Marz. Do you know Metroid? Well, short story, Super Metroid is considered to have been a masterpiece as a 2d plattform game. But Nintendo does not appreciate the game that much. A guy made a remake of the game Metroid: the return of Samus, and is considered to be the greatest fan-made game. Its called AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake). Nintendo, being douchbags, forced the guy to delete his account, because they don't want the game out (no one knows exactly why). But the game is still out there and is playable on PC. Is it possible for you to play the game, I would love too see you play it, and is considered almost as great as Super Metroid.
      Anyway, Shadow of the Colossus, is a masterpiece, but I know you, Marz, what kind of person you are. And in this game, there were many parts were I just hated the game, not because its bad, because of the situation on the game. I wont tell you why, you'll understand!

    "I like to think Trico was still alive"
    She actually is. The Trico's eyes that you first see in the final cutscene is our Trico. If you hold down O during the ending (when the camera goes into that cave) it'll cause Trico's horns to light up. It shows that there's still a bond between the boy and Trico even though they're technically separated.

      I never played this game but still freakin' fried. Twice. From two different playthroughs. I think that speaks a lot about how well the developers made the ending. You can tell what's going on enough to feel so sad, heartbroken, distraught, frantic, angry, and finally bittersweet. I bet the incredible animation and graphics of Trico also made it easier to fall in love because she was so lifelike and GODDAMN CUTE!

    The controls of this game are so frustrating and messy, but the story and how alive Trico feels makes this game one of the most beautiful experiences I've ever had in my life. As a huge animal lover with a cat I love to death, this bond between the boy and Trico hits home so hard. I cry every time I see this intense ending, no matter how often I watch other people experience it. So, this video is super old but anyway, big big thank you for playing this game and showing your emotions like this. It's beautiful.

    To everyone: Do not ever forget how firmly this game grabs a hold of hearts. It's one of those odd masterpieces in danger of being buried in obscurity since it doesn't technically jive with the times, but absolutely deserves credit for being so emotionally profound. Tell others. Give others the chance to experience this rewarding journey.

    Marz the ending does imply they meet again considering the shield works like an antenna that resonates with Trico'w horns and tail.We can see the light of the shield going all the way to the beginning of the game.
    The last scene implies Trico and his/her partner and offspring picked up the shield's call.
    I believe the main character waited to become the leader (It's also implied the man who picked him up was his father and the tribe obeyed him) and had to work years until his tribe would be less fearful of the Tricos and he was finally ready to bring them over.
    That's my take on it.

    • @aliq45
      @aliq45 4 года назад +3

      doesnt really make sense, why would the shield be buried in dirt then

    • @TromaDogg
      @TromaDogg 2 года назад +2

      The boy (now the village chief) also genuinely didn't think Trico had very long to live either, so at that point he would've believed Trico was long dead. There's the possibility that the chief was just telling the tale to the children and showing them how the shield worked back when he used it though, and that by coincidence Trico and their offspring picked up on it so there might have been an unexpected, happy reunion afterwards.

    Such an awesome playthrough! My preferred theory about the master of the valley is that it wasn't actually the master itself. It was an automated system controlling the Trico to bring the life force to sustain whoever was inside that sarcophagus where you found the shield. The Trico were essentially worker bees. If you look at the intro of the game you see the first drawing is of bees.

    • @Marzz
      @Marzz  6 лет назад +6

      Oh yeah! I actually remember that drawing because it stood out to me when the game first started. Very interesting theory which is pretty true honestly. Trico's all working to take care of the "hive"

    • @danieljohn9257
      @danieljohn9257 5 лет назад +1

      @@Marzz yeah, they said they call the place the Nest, so Hive works just as good in that situation!
      It turned out to be a much weirder game than I expected, really interesting!
      And I can't remember the last time a game or even movie made me this emotional. Wonderful experience!
      Sometimes you need a break from running around shooting people in the head for hours. I like shooters, but I need some adventure mixed in with all that action sometimes!

    • @Marzz
      @Marzz  6 лет назад +24

      What do you think the barrels are? Why do the butterflies find the chosen kids and also float around the barrels? I felt there had to be a connection between the two but, like I said, they are just guesses.

      We can't know for sure, but personally I do believe the kids provide the Master of the Valley with the life energy to create the substance in the barrels and the walking armors. Consumed. Processed. Then repurposed. I'm not saying it is so, since it's just a theory, but narratively it makes sense for a player to assume the Tricos are indirectly eating children. It's the simple visual correlation of a glowing blue child being dumped into one hole and a blue juice barrel directly appearing out of another.

    Loved this game visually and emotionally. The interactions felt genuine and authentic. The only thing I don't miss is the anxiety I got everytime the camera panned down. Doesn't matter if its just a virtual representation of a real high place, I felt my body stiffen with all those vertical levels.
    I'd like to believe that even though the boy and Trico never saw each other again, they are bonded forever through the markings/tattoos on his body. They are permanently linked, therefore finding solace in knowing both are still out there in some shape or form. It's not that weird to think that maybe, just maybe, some friendships can transcend lifetimes...

    An amazing ride Marz, thank you for leading us through! I would like to think the Tricos are being fed with the innocence part within a child soul, and also the other pair of eyes that next to our Trico, in my mind it is the Trico that you freed, it would be great if they have each other company :)
    Now about the game play, I love the environment I love the hard work they put into Trico, but the real issue for me is the repetitive puzzle and the lack of main storyline which could give the player some motivation and direction, let us have some idea where are we suppose to be heading( even tho the player will fall to difference places, but still I think the player should at least have a direction like go high), what goal do we need to achieve, we werent being told we were within the high wall and need to get to high place to fly off until the game show us the cut scene where Trico being struck by lightning.
    But overall, I am glad I went through the journey with you Marz, I look forward to another lets play with you!

    The sarcophagus at the bottom of the Nest is the reason why the tower is still running. The Master of the Valley is in hibernation and need the energy of other beings to stay alive. There's a book called "TLG: An Extraordinary Story" where Ueda-san reveals some extra like this.

    I really enjoyed your playthrough of The Last Guardian, Christine! I'm glad you made it through despite the camera, controls or mistakes (I didn't mind one bit) at times. It's definitely a game worth experiencing no matter what. You're my go-to on RUclips to watch playing games, as you play the games I enjoy, as I see you do as well. I think your typically the type of let's player for this game. I watched many let's play of it and you're probably the one I prefer of all ! Thank you for sticking with the game :)
    The music that starts when he raised the "shield" up and we traveled back in the valley, I restart crying each time too^^
    I never played Shadow of the Colossus either, and since I don't intend to buy it (too many games to play at this moment^^) and I never watched a let's play of it, I'll gladly follow you on this new journey !

      But what was in the barrels, though? Since matter and energy can't be created or destroyed, it stands to reason that The Master of the Valley processed the kids into Trico food, and then filled up the barrels.
      Since there were trees and plants in the valley, it stands to reason that the materials for the barrels were readily available.
      Those soldiers probably had barrel-making [or at least gathering the raw materials for the MOTV] as part of their duties.

    Great video Marz, that ending really gets you in the feels doesn't it, I've watched several RUclips playthroughs of the game since completing it and without exception all the gamers have cried. Btw, you might have been editing out some stuff when you get really emotional for your own reasons, but Im pretty sure we (your viewers) dont mind it at all. In a weird way I look forward to seeing people that I enjoy watching getting their own emotional reaction to something that I already had my own reaction to (I always play the games myself, then watch others).

    What a treat to have two Last Guardian videos uploaded within the same hour. Thank you.
    You figured out what to do with the tail very quickly. I could not figure out what i had to do and kept freaking out because the other Tricos were killing our Trico. I took me a while to figure out i had to use the tail to destroy the structure. You mentioned that all the other Tricos died from the master being killed. I honestly dont think they died. Hell, Trico got struck by lightning and fell from a MUCH greater height than those other Tricos and he survived. I think the same happened to the other, so they're not dead. But now that the master is dead, I still wonder how Trico and the others are going to get their food in the form of blue juice?
    It sucks that you cut out the end credits. I was hoping that we'd get to hear your thoughts and recapping all the good and bad experiences of your journey during the credits. Especially since it ended on such a sad note and the credits were accompanied with sad music while watching clips from your journey with Trico. I just thought it would have been cool to see you be all teary and emotional during the sad end credits, only to have them turn to tears of joy at the final end scene :)
    Speaking of which, when i played the game, I kept thinking back to how the game began (with the shield in the dirt and the shadows of the kids surrounding it) and kept saying "when are they going to get back to that? They cant end the game without revisiting that part again, especially with a sad ending and having us think that Trico is dead." Did you remember that intro and wonder if they were going to come back to it, or did you forget about it?
    But yeah, that whole last scene with us soaring through the sky back to the forbidden valley and the music that went along with it REALLY reminded me of Avatar and the beautiful music that went perfectly with the visuals in many of their scenes, like them journeying through the floating mountains to the Ikrans next, as well as the ending. Love the music so much.
    And like others have mentioned there is an easter egg where you can make Trico's horns glow during the very end scene in the cave. This now makes me think that Trico sensed the boy calling her through the shield and will be going back to the village to visit him : ' ) ruclips.net/video/reTN0FzYuXE/видео.html

    I told ya, haha, it's quite the ride. I cried for a least a half hour after finishing the game. It just hit me so hard. And no matter how many times I watch it, the part at 27:59 always gets me. The swell of the music, and the whine Trico makes---it just always gets me :'( Dangit, here I go again! XD
    Haha, well, now that you've made it to the end, I can tell you about some of the things I've ruminated about:
    I've always been fascinated by the environments in the game. Like, especially the architecture. Isn't it strange that the main tower is so different from the rest of the buildings? It's cold and white, and not to mention massive. The only other area that had the same style was the section in the beginning of the game where the mirror was found. Both areas seemed to have this "other worldly" appearance to them. They just seemed out of place. Also, the main tower had a huge fan that made me think of a cooling system, which lead me to think the "master of the valley" is some sort of AI---a computer. I'm not sure as to WHY such a thing would be controlling the Tricos either, though. Maybe the civilization that prospered here was destroyed somehow by this AI. Perhaps it was uncontrollable/taken too far and thus ALL the people were converted into this blue energy, and the Tricos were just a means of getting that done. Or maybe instead, the civilization was destroyed by some other reason and now the AI is simply continuing to do what it has been programed to do, just like a computer---no consciousness or anything.
    Who knows, haha.
    Thanks again though, Marz. It's been fun to watch your reactions lol. I'll see ya in the next playthough!

    I’ve been playing this game, then watching you play it up to the same point, it extended the experience and enhanced the emotional side through seeing your reactions, thanks for what you do, you do it really well.
    On the subject of theories about who what and why, well,I see obvious parallels between some higher resource-hungry power using slaves (the bird dogs) to provide its ‘milk and honey’ whilst living in an ivory tower, and using fear (the eyes) and mindless minions to protect itself from its slaves and maintain order. Within this analogy I guess the children could be seen as wild cattle-cum-batteries, they are hunted and harvested from outside of the kingdom (possibly because they ran out of their own citizens) and are in some manner factory processed to keep the tower where its former inhabitant/s lived operating as they seem to provide some form of spiritual power that the glowy ball and all its guards live off. For whatever reason Trico seems to be being punished for some failure to conform within all this.
    The barrel contents I’ve no easy answer to except it seems to be some form of processed food reward and Trico does seem most enamoured by the greeny blue glowing fog and juice that s/he encounters now and then so that seems to be the same stuff, but exactly what it is, who knows, could be processed geckos and birds for all we know, there’s certainly plenty of them around.
    The disc/mirror appears to be the equivalent of a universal control device (it functions as a weapon, a key, and can deactivate the guards), and as it was taken from a tomb I am forced to wonder if it belonged to the last dead king/Boss of a dying aristocracy who set up everything, and perhaps the entire establishment was so efficiently designed to be self maintaining it continued long after his death. If you think of the glowing ball as the central computer of the city (it does sorta resemble the MCP from Tron in the way it’s set up and moves) that controls all machinations and keeps everything balanced and working, it does all make a weird sort of sense, particularly in that the lower buildings are in a bad state (long since unused as everyone else died off) but the highest tower is still pristine.
    Anyway, there’s my two pence, I could be completely wrong, but I agree that it’s a great game, I thoroughly enjoyed playing it, sorry I wrote an essay, thanks for reading this far.

    Wow, you gave me the feels and I had already played this game! Happy you were able to push on through and finish this wonderful experience Marz. Regardless of it's quirks and frustrations, it's the complete journey that makes this game so worth it. You fall in love with Trico, and the boy's perspective becomes your own throughout the game. Their bond starts to feel real, and at the very end you wish that the Tricos you see are "your" Trico and it's baby. It's never revealed whether that's true or not, and it really doesn't have to be. The hope you feel towards the end is part of that journey you went through. That's what I love about this game.
    As for theories, I choose to believe it is "our" Trico and it's baby at the very end. I can sleep better thinking that our mystical, giant, cat bird puppy friend made it! Lol.
    One thing I've always wondered though is why did the Tricos need to have such power. What was so threatening to their existence that they can shoot powerful blasts from their tails? Was it to combat each other? Was it to protect the civilization that lived in the crater before, but from what? Many questions...

    What a ride! It was emotional all along so one was more or less prepared for some challenging, overwhelming situations. I was so much expecting either the boy or our Trico to give their lives, it surprised me both survived. Although, since the narrator is the boy in the future, only Trico could have died.
    The developers did a great job. Impossible not to bond with Trico, the lighting, especially the dawn on top of the biggest tower and how it was reflected on Trico's feathers, the mysterious forsaken civilization, partially rubble, partially fascinating spell-providing architecture. I'd like to know more about the entity, to me like some AI, in the tower and how it was connecting more or less all parts of the valley. Was that black goo originally part of it or sign of a malfunction or deterioration? Were Tricos always meant to bring in live human children and what would they actually feed on instead? Were Tricos always controlled or manipulated in the first place, etc., etc.? It holds its secrets but one doesn't feel left out of the loop or lost.
    Now, all we need are some mad scientists to bio-engineer us Tricos. "But what if they started abducting children irl?!" Well, but... Tricos!

    Tissues! You were not ready! Like you said, the game is definitely worth sticking with until the end. there's some debate to what purpose the tower was supposed to be for as well as the connection between the kids and the barrels. I immediately thought the same thing you did when I originally played it. Some believe the barrels don't have anything to do with the kids and are just treats for bringing the kids and that the kids were used for another purpose. The story is left ambiguous so I don't think there's one correct answer that'll be THE answer. Shadow of the Colossus is much the same way. While there are some things that you can figure out, the story to that game is also left a bit ambiguous and I am looking forward to seeing what you think of it! I will admit to crying, anything to do with pets, friendship, or the loss of them will get me. Glad you enjoyed the game and can't wait to go on the next journey!

    The place looks like it was still being built. All the wooden walkways are indicative that they hadn't finished the place. I think we can assume this was a place that was meant to be a home or a base. The Tricos seem like they were engineered specifically as a servant race. I believe the Controller was too, and that they were both designed together as part of a system. Either there was some kind of shortage of energy sources, or the Controller realized it could take over, but I think the people who were originally designing the place were either wiped out or suffered massive losses and had to flee once the Controller began using humans to power itself.
    I have long assumed now that the Boy is "The Last Guardian" and in that he holds a shield, related to guarding and defense. It means he is now the custodian of their race, as the only person who has access to a tool which they obey. I have no doubts that he will meet Trico again, and he will have many years to come with her and the survivors of "The Fall." Helping them move forward from isolation.
    What they're eating now, though, is anyone's guess. Given that they don't naturally identify people as food, though, it's safe to assume their human hunting days are probably over.

    It is an amazing game, brilliant story that haunts you. There was a human population there before in the ruins, they built it, made pots, and probably worshiped the peaceful Tricos.. they certainly built statues to them. Somehow the evil entity, maybe an alien, destroyed the humans, turned the Tricos against them in bondage. All of the Tricos are naturally peaceful and are only agresive through control and conditioning from birth, hence the fear of the glass eye thing. The Tricos under mind control are sent out to forage children for sustenance for the entity. The barrels may also contain child essence, but the Tricos know not what they do. The white citadel tower is different from the other ruins hence the alien theory. When Trico brings the boy to the tower originally and is struck by lightning, the green horns break but more importantly the evil entity cant control him anymore. Same thing happens to the second Trico (hit by the mine cart ) , and the other Tricos at the end of the game( death of evil entity,, followed by dizzying confusion).
    Its amazing how the game gets under your skin, and buries itself deep inside, you dont even see it coming. For anyone that thought the music was brilliant, watch this concert from 1.17 ruclips.net/video/Qvdqz-wxyjA/видео.html

    Congratulate for finishing the game, Marz. And thank you for sharing your journey with us. It's a great one. No matter how many time I've seen the ending, it still makes me eyes sweat. Very powerful story telling.
    I have a bit different theory. "The last guardian", I believe, is the boy. The master of the valley has been using children as some kind of magical energy source to run the entire valley automatically. Which include making those soldiers as guardians, to protect the entire operation from outsiders. This explains why those soldiers carried the injured Trico to where he was at the beginning, locked her up, and also why Trico is very aggressive toward them. Tricos were supposed to bring kids to become guardians of the castle. It just so happened our Trico, accidentally broke the control from the magic by getting lightning struck. Her not manage to deliver the boy became the downfall of the entire valley. No more guardians were made from children after the boy arrived. He's the last guardian
    Although we only get to see two Tricos in post-credit, I don't believe all the other Tricos are dead. As I mentioned a few video before, they're very tough creatures. They could be just disoriented because the mind control was shut down all of a sudden. I don't think the fall can really kill them.
    Anyway, this comment is too long already. Thank you again for this playthrough. Looking forward to your Shadow of Colossus playthrough.

      Definitely an interesting perspective! You do seem to have something with the children being the souls inside the soldiers. Maybe back in the day before that Master of the Valley took over, it was a notable thing, to be among the chosen ones but, since the downfall and corruption of the Valley, became more of a horror story? I'll never know!

    I reckon the tower was burried within the mountain, and then slowly excavated over the decades by the people who discovered it. It probably granted them new advanced technology, they build a whole city around the tower, and used the tech to capture tricos (the helmets) and make artificial soldiers to work and protect them. That core is probably the A.I. that controlled everything until it went rogue and got everyone killed. Then it sent the tricos out to other lands to gather people for consumption. When the little boy gets taken by Trico, one of the villagers says 'be among the chosen ones', implying to me this is a recurring event that's been going on for centuries, where a trico will just come along and nab someone who is then never heard from again. And the villagers have come to see it as somekind of divine reckoning or something.

    • @Marzz
      @Marzz  6 лет назад

      Yes, that's a total possibility. It is sort of odd that this mountain just has a gaping hole in it and the "mind" in the center i'm almost positive had something to do with the demise of whatever civilization was there. Awesome perspective!

    YES! so glad you beat this game!! this game had me with a lump in my throat by the end of it too lol
    this is the 3rd game of a trilogy so its hard to explain EVERYTHING without spoiling Shadows of the colossus(which is a prequel to both Ico and LG). there are REASONS why these "chosen kids" had blue juice(lol) and why they are chosen specifically. not every child has it in them. Ico has almost the same premise in that specific kids where being collected for that "power source" within them.
    the Master of the Valley is an interesting "final boss". i still don't know what to think of in terms of what it actually is, is it intelligent? is it automated? is it FROM SPACE lol. the only clues there are is that it needed to be in a cold environment. the tower was being kept cold so much so that it had an icey appearance compared to all the other buildings. that main tower was just so different from everything else, so organic looking once inside of it as opposed to the old masonry looking towers surrounding it. and then that huge mountain the tower sits in, looks an awful lot like a crater.. .god.. i can speculate on and on and on because all 3 games are so open ended so imma stop lol
    anyways!! im soooo glad you got to the end and experienced this game! i feel its an instant classic. and i can't wait for your Shadows let's play. ^___^

      Oh did they actually declare that they were connected?! I think it would be amazing to think of it all being in the same world even though I haven't played the other two (Ico or SoC). Would make me feel back at home like this game did.
      I love your analysis. It does make sense that the Master of the Valley or whatever that orb was, was different and didn't belong or seemed to have caused the downfall of the civilization around it. Awesome game!

      @rosado3D 6 лет назад +1

      Marz yeah they are not direct sequels to one another, each is their own stand alone story but its for sure a shared universe. The director has said that SotC is a prequel to Ico linking it in the same world. They never said anything about LG though, but the architecture and aesthetic is pretty dang similar. You'll feel right at home!

    • @ianluzdub
      @ianluzdub 6 лет назад

      in my opinion , the timeline would be TLG -----> SotC ----> Ico.
      The whole thing about chosen children to be used as food for the evil being starts here and ends on Ico. Maybe the 3 evil characters are connected... the Master of the valley could be the beginning of Dormin , that in the end it's essence could power the Queen on Ico..
      The civilization in this game seems very primitive , it could evolve and develop some more modern aspects like religion , etc , ending up on SotC , and so Wander reborn with horns would start the curse of the children with horns , which we see on Ico.
      Everything is connected , but not to everyone... a lot of interpretation is necessary.

This game touches your soul. I have also never played the original Shadow of the Colossus so I'm excited to see if it lives up to this and to all the great things people have to say about it. Great video :) I subscribed and hope that you will share your playthrough of SOTC!
