I saw a video years ago about finding lands and how everybody has a different feel with those kits. He stripped the firing pin, and you feel the bolt without a case and the handle falls straight down. Take a sized case and keep seating the bullet in small increments until the bolt falls halfway down and closes with a finger. Easy, accurate and repeatable.
Personally I've never tried chasing the lands and Scott saterleee and Mark from short action customs have done extensive testing burning out multiple barrels and found for the life of the barrel like .250-.100 is where they can settle. Makes sense and your throat wears, if say your .010 off you'll have to constantly adjust length. You can find more if curious on some precision rifle blog

Always nice to see other people's process. I'm very impressed that you can resist the urge to push the velocity. I struggle to resist the siren song of speed!

With my hunting rounds I'll chase speed a little more but for target rounds iv learned to restrain myself. Less wear on my barrels and less recoil which helps spotting shots. If I was shooting ELR distances it would be different but the furthest I go is a 1000 yards.
