I realise I said the informal version of “what is this?” when buying the candy from the lady in the street. I’m trying my best with the language and wasn’t aware 🙏🏻
Hard taffy should not be chewed. If you bravely chew hard taffy and do it wrong, your weak teeth could fall out. Nevertheless, when you put it in your mouth, it may melts slowly, so you can slowly taste the sweetness in the process. That could be good. At the end, when the last pea-sized bite remains, it will be soft, so chew it lightly and eat it. I had an experience where the metal cover that was treated at the dentist fell off while eating it. After that, I don't eat it any more. Koreans are also careful about eating taffy.
Of course it is very touristy and because of that a bit on the pricier side, but for me there is a big plus point: everything is in English too. Also I see there are mostly ajummas and I believe the food they make is like the food from my grandma, they know how to cook.
Yes, I completely agree! It was actually a lot better than I expected. Heard mixed reviews but I had a fun time there and was surprised at how good some of the food was!
the Yukkoe (korean raw beef tartare) there is bomb and popular among locals! 💣 Hope u can try it somewhere at some point :) ps. your reaction to the hard pumpkin candy had me dying lmao
@@hugh.abroad haha it’s called Yeot, super traditional; there’s solid to liquid varieties. I personally love the fun texture, ppl usually suck on it like hard candy until it softens then you can chew or suck till it dissolves. it’s super interesting to see how it’s made! ☺️ They often will show you if you go to a Hanok Village, super cool historical experience 🌬
Gwangjang Market still offers a wide variety of delicious food, but lately, many have commented that prices have risen significantly due to the influx of tourists. If it’s your first time in Korea, it might be a good idea to explore other markets first before visiting Gwangjang Market!

Hi Hugh!
Hey there! 👋🏻
This market is overrated. Go to Namdaemun Market instead.
I’ve been to Namdaemun, some good food there. I found it a bit quiet and not as fun as Gwangjang.
lol free taste
Don’t ask you don’t get 😅
