Lost Donny Hathaway in January 1979 and Minnie Riperton months later in July. They were both in their early 30's (33 and 31, respectively). Both so talented and gone too soon but they left behind music that'll be enjoyed as long as humans exist. 🙏🏽

What a tribute to Donny Hathaway, I didn't know it was about him. I am 66 years old. All I recall, I just liked this song. Thanks my young brother for educating me. Happy Holidays to you.
He had schizophrenia , he stopped taking his medication and he was hallucinating and fell out of a hotel window . I watched the TV one unsung episode where they said this. I don’t know if he was on meds and stopped taking them or if he was undiagnosed. But he did jump out of a hotel window from what they said.
Now this song was about Donny Hathaway by the whispers. A very touching song about their friend Donny Hathaway.

I remember when they released this song in memory of Donny Hathaway, "This Christmas". Donny Hathaway suffered from paranoid schizophrenia with bouts of unusual behavior for many years. When He'd take his meds it would help but he didn't like the way the meds mad him feel and would stop taking them. After about 10 years of depression and PS he committed suicide.

he killed himself by jumping out of the 17th floor wimdow of his hotel...he was schitzophrenic, and said folks was following him😥😢...they made this song the same year he died...in 1979
