    Great video as usual! Could you one day make a video in Brandom and/or Inferentialism? I am having troubles in class understanding his position. Every time I watch your videos, thinks become easy. Thanks for the great content! Really enjoying it

      Thanks! I am just dipping my toes into Continental philosophy, but I want to expand more into this and other non-analytic zones of philosophy moving forward.

    This immediately made me think of Borat

    • @CarneadesOfCyrene
      @CarneadesOfCyrene  3 года назад

      Yep. In a big way! Borat has many elements of postmodern performance, blurring the lines between actors and spectators, excessive use of satire, many vignettes instead of one overarching plot etc.

    Modernisme definitely fits my idea and what I want for a movie more! With this said I do see the value in some of the postmodernism production.

      Some days I want a good modernist story with black and white, clear plot structures and an obvious narrative. Other days I want lots of shades of gray, many interwoven plots that mimic the confusion of life. The good thing is you don't have to choose! You can watch the Avengers and then watch Bo Burnham's Inside all in the same day. :)

    Wait...Artraud does not use a naturalistic aesthetic, does that mean he is not a modernist? His theater strikes me as avant-garde modernist.

    What do you think of the religion of Islam? And the philosophy regarding it.
    There's a RUclips channel called the thought adventure Podcast, they are Muslim philosophers, would love to see you discuss with them.

      I am still dipping my toes into non-western/analytic philosophy. I started with African philosophy (ruclips.net/p/PLz0n_SjOttTddpuJOsbIgQHOTtnSFFGJB) since I have more background there than elsewhere. I have lived for many years in Muslim countries, and I am interested in engaging with Muslim philosophers on the channel at some point. That said, I am a skeptic, which means I doubt everything, including all religions. I find Islam just as wanting as Christianity or scientific realism, but I think there are some very interesting Muslim philosophers to engage with.

    I think a modernist play would be more persuasive than a postmodernist one, unless the post-modernist one is about the messiness and polyglot (there has to be a better word than polyglot to mean that) nature of reality. One conveys a clear message to its audience, the other does not.

    It sounds like the postmodernist wants to pull down classical art to the level of pop art instead of raise up pop art

    • @TheJayObrain
      @TheJayObrain 7 месяцев назад

      Wow, their intention is to do exactly the opposite, raise up pop art to the level of classical art instead of raise up classical art…

      @@TheJayObrain I would need to rewatch the video again to see why I was saying otherwise, what processes are they using to uplift pop art to the level of classical art?

    He should have just called this postmodern theater. I like theater, but music and dance are excluded here.

    • @CarneadesOfCyrene
      @CarneadesOfCyrene  3 года назад +3

      Fair criticism. The problem is that postmodern "theatre" does so much that doesn't really fit under the traditional term "theatre" and so is often called performance (even when it does not really look like traditional dance or music).
