She sings sad songs but with this happy disposition, almost as though she perceives things in a "life is just funny and that there's no need to be jaded by it" kind of way. I love it.
Talk about perfect pitch, this is uncanny. Her vocal control is amazing. I have to remind myself this was a live performance in one take for crying out loud. Had never heard of her, came without any expectations, was somewhat blown away. And that's putting it mildly. Treasuring NPR Tiny Desk for the invaluable source of fresh influences that it is.
@@zzzz1192 not completely true, many talented artists use autotune. Every single recording artist uses some for of pitch correction. Tiny Desk + Colors are two of the most engrossing ways to discover new artists, for me at least. The audio is so crisp on both and expertly mixed, it makes for very easy listening. Pertaining to all artists and namely Stella, I found her randomly by being recommended other Tiny Desk concerts, at first I had a very surface level though, "Oh, she's' very, very cute." And, stupidly I dismissed it and moved on, but there was something very alluring in the presentation and music that made me think of her again, and I returned to this video to watch again and I found myself really enthralled by the melodies and instrumentation she conveys, long story short... Over repeated listening I found myself loving Stella as an artist, I always try to explain this to people, that sometimes it requires more than one or two or even three listens to realize that you enjoy something and that pertains to every aspect of life not just entertainment, and I guess I just want to thank Tiny Desk for being so fucking amazing (even though they probably won't read this at least it's out in the ether of the internet) Thanks Tiny Desk, you're killin' it, shine on you crazy diamond!
