    She sings sad songs but with this happy disposition, almost as though she perceives things in a "life is just funny and that there's no need to be jaded by it" kind of way. I love it.

    Talk about perfect pitch, this is uncanny. Her vocal control is amazing. I have to remind myself this was a live performance in one take for crying out loud. Had never heard of her, came without any expectations, was somewhat blown away. And that's putting it mildly. Treasuring NPR Tiny Desk for the invaluable source of fresh influences that it is.

    • @stanconnorstan4266
      @stanconnorstan4266 5 лет назад +49

      @@zzzz1192 not completely true, many talented artists use autotune. Every single recording artist uses some for of pitch correction. Autotune is often used as a vocal effect to add to the style of a track, I mean an unprocessed voice would be completely out of place for an artist like Charli XCX who uses it to add to her futuristic aesthetic. Plus autotune can't fix how awful your singing overall is, there are a hundred more factors that make for a good vocal sound. Everyone always assumes it can fix everything, it really can't.

    • @Jerry11201
      @Jerry11201 5 лет назад +7

      @@stanconnorstan4266 Exactly, bad autotune sounds bad cause the artist sounds bad

    • @LooneyJuice
      @LooneyJuice 5 лет назад +8

      @@stanconnorstan4266 Yeah that vibrato is really cool. I get that it might be off-putting to some, and I even saw a comment about how "messed up" it was sadly. That being said,I think the latter part is a bit unfortunate when you consider that some people can't make the distinction between what it's supposed to sound like, and what the artist wants it to sound like. Her vibrato is definitely part of her identity. It is obviously identical in every appearance and something she's honed. I really like those touches.

    first song is gonna be a strong contender for song of the year 2019. simple yet solid, 'beware of the dogs' is an elegant, dreamy, rallying-against-the-man-at-the-pub, punk tune that distills the divide between abuser and abused into a tight, uplifting warning to the powers that be. stella donnelly's voice control is outstanding, and you really have to view the whole set to truly appreciate the dare-i-say-it judy garland level warbles that she delivers line after line. one perfect performance after the other, whether you're into woke lyrics or raw talent you owe it to yourself to give her a try.

    Tiny Desk + Colors are two of the most engrossing ways to discover new artists, for me at least. The audio is so crisp on both and expertly mixed, it makes for very easy listening. Pertaining to all artists and namely Stella, I found her randomly by being recommended other Tiny Desk concerts, at first I had a very surface level though, "Oh, she's' very, very cute." And, stupidly I dismissed it and moved on, but there was something very alluring in the presentation and music that made me think of her again, and I returned to this video to watch again and I found myself really enthralled by the melodies and instrumentation she conveys, long story short... Over repeated listening I found myself loving Stella as an artist, I always try to explain this to people, that sometimes it requires more than one or two or even three listens to realize that you enjoy something and that pertains to every aspect of life not just entertainment, and I guess I just want to thank Tiny Desk for being so fucking amazing (even though they probably won't read this at least it's out in the ether of the internet)
    Thanks Tiny Desk, you're killin' it, shine on you crazy diamond!

    FINALLY YOU POSTED IT. Been waiting to watch this for almost a week!!
    To those who are just now finding out about Stella, I HIGHLY recommend checking out her first EP “Thrush Metal” and her cover of Time After Time. Her music is on a whole other level of spectacular.
