And it's easy for them to hop into a car and drive relatively small distances to come together and practice together. Also they can talk in their native tongue together. Which is untrue since both have guest on each other's albums. This concert is a best of containing songs from multiple albums and side project. the last song of the concert features both Floor and Irene Jansen . : The eye of Ra. ( based on the movie stargate ) The other live concert that came after The electric castle and other tales. well that is a full album with a special ancore of a few side projects . and features some older legends as well. Including Fish ( marillion ) , Thijs van Leer ( Focus) and many others. A concert you realy want to enjoy from start to finish .

I KNEW you'd love this one! I was curious why you hadn't reacted to it sooner, but no matter. Your analysis was spot on as to the sound - definitely prog rock at its finest! One minor point though - you didn't mention Emerson, Lake, and Palmer in the "pantheon" of prog rock greats. I don't know about you, but that keyboard/synth sound and style to me definitely smacked of ELP, *especially* the Brain Salad Surgery album, and most particularly Karn Evil 9. When I heard this piece (theme particularly) my mind immediately went to KE9, especially the third impression.

Also sometime you should check out Hansi & Blind Guardian @ Wacken 2016 The Bard's Song & Valhalla (Both songs in one vid about 13 min., crowd participation anyone) I don't think they care, but I believe the Dutch normally pronounce the e at the end of a name as an ah . Arjen Lucassen's work is solid, but when he decided to do this monster of a concert, it went through the roof. Live songs bring the best out of good musicians. Besides Floor, there is another female singer - Maggy Luyten with an amazing big rock voice.
How about some more prog from Porcupine Tree or Steven Wilson solo work! I think that you did Bonnie the Cat but that is not really mainstream PT. I agree on the sound of the hammond, but it was even better live. On the dvd, it's a bit flat. In the venue you could really hear the deep roar of the hammond through the leslie. Sooo good. Especially on "And the Druids turned to Stone". Great reaction. Keep it up !
The fact is, Eric, that I discovered Nightwish 10 years ago at age 50 and a new musical world opened up. I never really listened to metal before, but now it is all I am listening to with prog rock. I also dislike pop and so called adult contemporary music.

It says something when singers like Marcella, Lisset ( sp) and Irene are just "background" or maybe it says something when your writing and main vocals REQUIRE that caliber of backing ? I remember one reacted saying "Wow this is a Super group, but not in a we are the world kind of way". I like that because it would be rather easy to totally waste the talent present ..... and this does not.

Arjen is a real magician in bringing so many styles, instruments and singers together in a way, that it feels coherent and unique at the same time.

I agree on the sound of the hammond, but it was even better live. On the dvd, it's a bit flat. In the venue you could really hear the deep roar of the hammond through the leslie. Sooo good. Especially on "And the Druids turned to Stone". Great reaction. Keep it up !
The fact is, Eric, that I discovered Nightwish 10 years ago at age 50 and a new musical world opened up. I never really listened to metal before, but now it is all I am listening to with prog rock. I also dislike pop and so called adult contemporary music.

It says something when singers like Marcella, Lisset ( sp) and Irene are just "background" or maybe it says something when your writing and main vocals REQUIRE that caliber of backing ?
I remember one reacted saying "Wow this is a Super group, but not in a we are the world kind of way". I like that because it would be rather easy to totally waste the talent present ..... and this does not.
Arjen consistently demonstrates excellent insight into EXACTLY how to use a particular voice. Everyone gets to shine.
