I’m 56 years old and I have my grandmother’s molcajete and I will be giving it to one of my sons when the time comes. I’m grateful for people like you that keep our traditions going strong.

Thank you for sharing such a meaningful tradition with us! It's incredibly heartwarming to hear stories of passing down cherished family heirlooms like your grandmother's molcajete. It's a privilege to play a small part in keeping those traditions alive. Wishing you and your family many more memorable moments shared around the kitchen ❤

I’m not Hispanic, but when I get one and have children, I’ll ensure one of them gets it. My mother gave my sisters many cooking items. Not me, her only and oldest son. I don’t really know how to cook well.

I've had my oldest one for
      about 35 years
A gift from a friend from his
      daddy across the river.
The more you use it, the
      better in gets.
Don't forget to grind up some
rice first about a half a cup
      at the time
      Good Luck

      Not so much gathering any
flavors as much as a blender
      pulverizing and heating up
      vegetables/herbs with a fast
      blade and altering flavor in
      a bad way.

I’m in the market for a good molcajete. I love making home made salsa like mi familia did when I grew up in Mexico. He is right about about salsa doesn’t taste the same even if you use the same ingredients, same portions. Salsa always tastes better if it’s made in a molcajete.

    • @Masienda

La salsa de molcajete es mejor porque machucando los ingredientes suelta mas moléculas de sabor. Y mientras una liquadora usa navajas filosas para cortarlos muy finos, pero deja las parades celulares de plantas mas intactos, soltando menos sabor.

Great to see these craftsmen in the spotlight. The use of electric rotary tools vastly speeds up production but also increases the risk of developing silicosis. 2:03
The personal mask should be the last line of defence, missing in their shop are other mitigation strategies such as water or vacuums.
I used to be a tradesman, and I see these gentlemen as brothers in trade.
Let’s keep them safe so they can continue this legacy.

We absolutely appreciate your comment and concern. We will continue to encourage and partner with Enrique and his team to take precautions to protect themselves and will encourage additional mitigation strategies.
