- Lindsey Stirling performs the traditional songs "Scotland, the Brave/Simple Gifts" during the 2013 Pioneer Day concert, "A Summer Evening of Music," with The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square. Arranged by Sam Cardon.
The joy in this music makes me cry.
beautiful!!!
WOW!..... and about forty years ago I could've kept up with her!....sigh..
If you know the NC mountains, you know. The Scots are there and she was a Scot when she turned to me and asked. I was thrilled as I am also Scot. She and I lasted 60 plus years. I miss her. I laid her to rest deep in the Sourthern Highlands of the Great Smokies of NC. Her daughters, as I , loved her, an American Scot.
A gift to you and a gift to me.
Bravo!
wow
This is "Praise to the Man" "Lord of the Dance" and maybe "Simple Gifts", not "Scotland, the Brave"
Wow. Simply joy and thanks with wonderful musicians. Thank you Scotland the Brave.
She herself is like art..... I really appreciate her bringing this unique style to the world. God bless Lindsey Sterling!
Well I am Highlander and have lived in Scotland all my life and I hardly recognised this song. Although it was nice to hear it but I truly didn't resemble the song I know so well. Why people have to add notes to a perfectly good song is beyond me. Let the song speak for itself and it'll do just fine thank you very much...Sorry but as a Scot this rendition did nothing for me. .
I don’t know how she does this. I can’t chew gum and walk in a straight line at the same time. Pretty amazing talent.
It is really soul uplifting! A performance like this is a gift from above. MTC and the Orchestra with Lindsey are really amazing.
The pioneers would often hear a fiddle and dance to the music. This shows that both can be done at once. Way to go Lindsey stirling!
If only my dreams were as good as this really is.... I'd be asleep instead of watching this at midnight
Just now seeing this....Lindsey is always so great! My love for her is immeasurable! She grabs you by your heart and speaks to your soul! God bless Lindsey forever!!
Love it! Love it! LOVE IT!
As a Mormon, this spectacular triumph with the Mormon Tabernacle choir and orchestra probably means even more to Lindsey than her wonderful comeback performance on America's Got Talent. I bet she was pleased with the superior acoustics in the Mormon Tabernacle.

I miss seeing her. Where has she been? Or maybe where have I been? Anyway, she's a delight. I love the one she did in the subway in Ny!
Some people can dance, and some people can play a violin, but I dare say there are only a select few that can do both at the same time, and so (seemingly) effortlessly as well. What a great talent!
I love how much of a pixie Lindsey Stirling is. She dances when she plays, even in a stage performance like this, and that's wonderful - there's a big difference between playing notes and making music.
It is too bad that with a choir as great as this, they couldn't sing the WORDS to "Scotland the Brave" at some point - because they tell the story of the Scottish Heart.
What an incredibly gifted and talented girl, and what a wonderful performance she gave us.
It very nearly gives me hope for life.
Weird mashups, maybe people aren't all that bad.
Nice cover up.
Thanks.
Wonder what side of the family the elf is on. She's magnificent! Thanks for posting!
Quite amazing! I myself had never imagined that a violinist could dance while playing the instrument. Unbelievable...
I love the energy Lindsey has... what a beautiful soul, that dances and plays violin while moving us all... She always gives her all!
If I could play the violin and if I could dance I would still fall down if I tried to do both at once. Magnificent performer.
This kid had her 30th birthday in September. By the way that's not Scotland the Brave it is an adaptation from Scotland the Brave.
It says so in the credits.
I would have been so intimidated being the focus of attention surrounded by such wonderful musicians. Good on her for pulling it off so well!
I wonder if she was tempted to send the link to this video to Sharon Stone from AGT and tell her, "Hey! I took your advice and I found a group to play with."
Actually its was Sharon Osborn that your thinking about ! Both her and Pierce Morgan are no longer on the show ! Leaving only one last culpret that being hypocryte Howie Mandel who agreed with Pierce
+Thomas Webber
Actually, when you stop and think things thru Pierce Morgan did Lindsey Stirling a favor. After being kicked to the ground, she got up, brushed herself off and started doing covers on RUclips; her way... Now, quick, name the winner of AGT that year and where are they now?
I've been in the conference building once on a tour. I didn't know that the building was actually that big. It looked big in the videos and pictures, but in real life... WOW
You should totally try coming when they have LDS General Conference and listen to the choir sing you are blown away. it's better than any Rock concert you could go to.
Beathtaking !!! Lindsey plays with heart and soul !!!
You need to hear the Scots sing "Scotland the Brave" in Gaelic... accompanied by pipes.
Very enjoyable performance. Looks like Lindsey is "Fit As A Fiddle"
I agree this was not the Scotland the Brave I knew and sang in Scotland......but what a gifted violinist!!
This kid is amazing. ..just an amazing performer...
Amazing as always ... Luv that Lindsey Stirling.. such a great combination to be with the choir .. bravo... luv it!
World class violinist !!! World class choir !!!
Such beautiful music and the singing is soul - lifting
This kid is amazing. ..just an amazing performer...
She reminds me of Michael Jackson (because he was always moving whenever he sang). Except with her she's playing the violin!
well when ya classically trained in ballet and violin and can decide on one.....why not both? lol
A toast to all the Scotchmen who have given their lives in the fight for Freedom.
she is awsome awsome awsome awsome awsome!!!!!!!!!
(that's 3 awsomes)
"Simple Gifts" is a Shaker dance composed by Elder Joseph Brackett in 1848 while at the Shaker Covenant in Alfred, Maine. Most persons know the tune from Aaron Copland's "Appalachian Spring."
In Britain many a school knows simple gifts as Lord of the Dance!
Que emoción oir la interpretación de este himno.
Where is Andre Rieu??
I never realized I wanted a "Scotland the Brave"/"Appalachian Spring" medley until now.
Same
This Praise to the Man is Fantastic !
Hmmmmmmm awesome Lindsey Stirling. The Mormon tabernacle choir, more blessings I pray for you. Wonderful work keep it up and God will continue to be your strength
Absolutely Amazing incredible and deeply moving yes astounding!!!
Go Scotland. Inspiring and I have ancestors from Scotland who use to have a castle there. Love that country!!!
lindsey stirling, what can i say...she is like a fiddle playing fiery pixey...wonderful...
Amazing... I was part of a Chorus more than 50 years ago. The life take me off... but until now my eyes tears when ear beautiful songs.
Well Lindsey...It was indeed a Stirling performance!
Well I am watching it at 2 am 🎵🤗
I cry at this rendition of "simple gifts." It is the most up beat version I have ever heard. It dose the original justice.
I think a tuba player dancing and playing this would have been more interesting....just saying.
Not sure if all the people who are confused about how it sounds like Praise to the Man are just joking or not, but it's definitely not a coincidence. Praise to the Man was written on the tune of Scotland the Brave. The choir and Lindsey are actually performing the Praise to the Man version here, not the original Scotland the Brave. There is a slight difference to the tunes but they are mostly the same. As a Scottish fiddler (albeit from the US) who used to be in a bagpipe band and is also Mormon and very familiar with Mormon hymns, I can tell you with 100% certainty that this is Praise to the Man, not Scotland the Brave. Kind of sad that Motab chose to be less honest with their title here. Also would have been neat to hear the lyrics for Scotland the Brave, or an authentic Scottish fiddle, alas, neither can be found here.
All that being said I think Lindsey is incredible in her own right and so is Motab. Just wish they would put more info in the description to help all the confused people here.
She 's amazing :O
Wow! That's a performance artist!❤❤❤
Absolutely! But the hilarious jumping around is farcical
Letitia Lyons
I suppose a lot of what we do for fun is farcical - all work and no play makes Jack, some say, but there ought to be more to life than that. People go out on the weekend and chase golf balls or tennis balls or baseballs around, or shoot holes in paper targets that we can't eat - just for fun. If I recall correctly, the violinist with Celtic Woman does a little dancing along with the playing, and lots of people like to watch them. As the old song says, we just want to have fun. :-)
I had difficulty sitting still while listening and watching this uplifting "Gift of talent".
Her prancing was very distracting for me, listening to it was great, watching it, not so much!
Lindsey Stirling is such a God given standout, in her presentations..! I would reallyx2 love to see her play with Celtic Woman of Ireland...even once, - now that Mairead Nesbitt has left a huge gap in their lineup, - taking nothing away from the present violinist of course, only that the energy of that impish Lindsey, brings to mind the presence of Mairead as she once skittles and dances with her indormitable violin, all over the stage! How I wish...
That's not Scotland the Brave, that's the Lord of the Dance - a (British?) hymn, which I suppose is somewhat appropriate given the context. It sounds nothing like Scotland the Brave (which is typically done with drum and bagpipes, not violin I should mention)
Heuch!
(It's a Scottish word. Not sure how to translate it to English :) )
I hear this young lady has two speeds . . . asleep and gone ! SO MUCH ENERGY ! What a God Blessed Talent-on-Loan-from-God !
Loved it...Lindsay is very good and has a ton of energy.
I love Lindsey .... in a musically way ... this a match of two extraordinary musicians (counting the MTC as one) no one who has at least a little sense of (real) music should miss.
Only thing more difficult then playing the violin extremely well is playing the violin extremely well and dancing
Alex Murray Try also writing the music to your list of challenges. Elements is an original composition of hers!
There are many other countries, in fact I'd say most, which are better sources of music. Our best are the worst laments. How I long for a progressive anthem to replace our current dirge. As for the Tabernacle Choir this must have been forced upon them.
You go Lindsay!! Let the whole world know your amazing and awesome talent :)
I was just praying she didn't fall off the stage, she was making me nervous with all the uncoordinated jumping and yanking going on
I am a big fan of Lindsey Stirling. She is quite a talented artist!
Stand hard, the ranks of steel.. glory to the battlefield.. help me out lads.
She is a incredible young woman, what a talent.
Y'all do know, Scotland the brave is played with pipes and drums right?
As a Scotsman I was looking forward to the choir singing Scotland the Brave as per the title, what a disappointment.
¡Es una belleza! ¡Magnífico!
She is like a fairy, I love her.
She is AMAZING. She is my favorite music artist so far.
Who wrote these beautiful lyrics to Simple Gifts?
A Shaking Quaker minister in 1848 while he was in Maine
Great music, but her moving around so much is dizzying and very distracting.
do u guys ever come to England???
World class violinist with the world class Choir!
James Haines amen!!!°
If I recall correctly, she was rejected in the first round of AGT and was told that her talents/skills weren't marketable. And here she is with the Tabernacle Choir backing her up, which is on every performer's bucket list of pipe dreams, and rarely realized. Lesson: "Never give up, never give up, never, never, never."
abençoada violinista pelos momentos que nos dá de felecidade
Шикарно! С нетерпением жду концерт 30 сентября в Москве!
ik vind geweldig,
This is one of my all-time favorite performances!!! The Tabernacle Choir keeps getting BETTER!!!! Lindsey Stirling is amazing too!!
Lindsey, can you do one of yours half-splits on me? Kindly please.
Hehe, It's in her blood. You'll be lucky if you can find a video of her playing a violin and not jumping around, she loves to dance!
Jealous of the choir and their front row seats to her talent.
¡FABULOSO!
An unusual pairing of songs but two of my favorites. thanks, Ms. Stirling, and TMTC!
Wau, my gosh! she is very gifted, I cannot help but watch...
This is a sub-par performance of one of my country's songs, in my opinion. Doesn't sound like it at all....
Doesn't discount from the fact that she's still great though...
To be fair it is a mix of two songs so of course it isn't going to sound like Scotland the brave even though it is one of the songs that are mixed.
It's a bit of a stretch to call this a mix of Simple Gifts and Scotland the Brave. It would be more accurate to call it a mix of Simple Gifts and Praise to the Man, the latter of which is an LDS hymn that uses the general tune of Scotland the Brave, but takes liberties to flow with the poems' syllables. Accuracy aside, I love this!
July 24 is my brithday they posted at july 24 omg im so happy😜😄😀
Do you love Lindsey stirling's music too? Consider this song as a present :)
Tears of Joy... Thank you ;)
If this is labeled Scotland the Brave in Lindsey'sofficial credits then she needs to retrain her people. The other option is that the "credits" weren't provided by her people.
the piece was arranged and titled by someone else, so she learned and performed the music. the title/"credits" have nothing to do with Lindsey.
Lindsey reminds me of an "Elfin Farie" small an cute havin fun..
I don't think the dancing was appropriate for this song. I'm not opposed to Lindsey Stirling or her trademark dancing while she plays but in this performance the dancing and music didn't seem to correspond.
In God we trust! So true. And Lindsey is a daughter of God! Wonderful! She and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir! Best choice ever!
es maravilloso poder escuchar éstos grandes artistas con maravillosas melodías que inspiran nuestros pensamientos Y ayudan a un mejor día gracias por compartír sus talentos
