THis looks fascinating. I am legally blind and this might come in handy. What I would like to see is for you to do a comparison between this device, and what can be done with an iPhone with VoiceOver turned on and the navigation feature being used. Also what is the price of this device?

I just purchased the stellar track three days ago and am still getting used to it. Your video was helpful in reconfirming some of the information I already had. I have used my solar trek a little bit and the navigation is quite good. It’s unfair with Vista and the Oko app, each one has its advantages and disadvantages, but overall the stellar trek is best because it isn’t using all the battery up on cell phone and it is standalone so you don’t need to worry about connecting to Wi-Fi all the time once you have downloaded the maps you need so I’m still learning the device and I think the navigation is slightly more accurate than with the victory reader stream or victor reader track rather it gets you within maybe 20 to 30 feet where is the victory reader trek would basically get you within 45 or 50 feet and it’s a lot more responsive to acquiring satellites very quick And very few dropouts overall I’m quite pleased with the stellar trek and I’m looking forward to the new applications. Hi Hawkeye, I was thinking about purchasing this and you mentioned the most important thing about this unit. How often have you experienced GPS dropout where you had no GPS coverage if you don’t mind that would be the main sticking point for this device, the old tracker, dropped out more and more as time went by, do you feel this has a strong GPS signal or do you find that it will become frustrating?-You’re the only person that’s mentioned it in any review thanks for any info
@@maxfieldfleisher6447 i’d like to follow up on a comment I made earlier at that time. I had only had the stellar check for three days and was just getting used to it. Well, I’ve used it for a couple of weeks now made several trips and I find that it connects to the satellites very quickly and, the connection is very stable even indoors I can acquire satellites and get a fairly good position and the more I use the track the better I like it and most of the time it’s in its holster on my hip and so I have both hands-free to use my white cane and carry set things and such I have not use the crossing street crossing app part of the app, but I find the Camera is quite good at giving descriptions and getting you to doors so far I am very pleased with the device and as far as map downloads the maps downloaded very quickly from Wi-Fi and I didn’t have any problems whatsoever

I was wondering, is this stellar track device only for walking or can you use it for navigation if you were in a car or a bus and you wanted to know where the bus or the car is taking you and what street it’s taking you?

Hello everyone. I'm thinking about buying stellar trek. I wanted to ask you which device you have, are you satisfied with it, and do you advise me to buy stellar trek? Does it have indoor navigation?
I understand this is a quick overview, but it would have been really helpful if you would have provided more description of how you were holding the device. For example, when you were crossing the street, were you holding or wearing the device with the provided clip on? Same thing when you used quick text. thanks for the review.
I was holding the device out in front of me, pointing the rear facing camera towards the street. Keep that in mind for future videos and give better descriptions.
My big issue with all the trek family is loading maps. Trek is really slow on wi-fi as it it often failed part way through. This is probably due to the speed of humanwares download speeds.

A while ago, I bought the victor reader trek for over $1000 ; it is now sitting in a drawer collecting dust. Nice presentation but I would rather take a vacation for that kind of money.

Humanware use or did use to Tom maps and these are no where as good as google or apple maps.
Oh, when I see those stroads... US, you would benefits from become more densified, less car-dependent and with better public transit and more walkable streets.
OTOH, there are many countries with public transit but worse accessibility for the legally blind and those with vision issues.
Perfect is hard to find...
Sam, do you know if when using the barcode reader if it will give you cooking instructions as part of the information given to you?

One thing I have a question about this device is do you have to be connected to Wi-Fi all the time for these features to work? I am a new student at Cal State Long Beach and I feel like this device would help me out a lot with campus navigation, but that is the one thing I am concerned about moving forward is if this is not a Wi-Fi Connected device at all times then I’d be really happy to purchase one, but if it is then I might have to have second thoughts. Any replies from anybody would be much appreciated.
Wifi is only needed for the initial setup (downloading maps) and updating the unit. Everything else can be done 100% offline! It's ideal for outdoor navigation, and great for college campuses with Open Area Mode where you can walk freely without having to be tethered on a road.

Oh, I’m sure it has a lot more features than your phone does. Since this is what it’s specifically designed for. Of course, there are some good free apps on the phone. But as with anything, there are limitations to all. I do like the interactive part of it. Maybe it could prove to be handy for me here on my phone! I was just curious, where it did 6:19 it data from.
There's no cell service. There is wifi, but it's only used to download maps and do updates. Every AI features (barcodes, address detection, OCR, etc) is all done onboard and offline.

@@TechnologiesHumanWare I actually like the device very well. Especially the OCR. It seem like it was very fast. I actually am a livestock farmer in middle Tennessee. One of my primary issues I have been having. Is reading my livestock numbers. I have used some different devices. But, those that have to take a picture, then process, seems to take quite a bit of time. it look like, your device was the fastest. I have seen so far. Would like to put it through some real time test here on my farm. Maybe I can work up to that soon.

This seems like 10 years old technology rather than. Cutting edge. The iPhone IOS and some free apps will do all of this better and faster.

Yes , all smartphones, not just iPhones, and some free apps can do most of this as well, but definitely not better or faster. None of the navigational apps like Google Maps or Apple Maps are fully accessible with screen readers. I can't use a screen reader to move around on the map and explore what's around me. Yes, you can use four or 5 apps to do the same things as this, but you'll spend a lot of time jumping in and out of those apps. Bottom line smartphones are great and can do a lot of things, but they'll never be able to do something as well as a device that was built specifically for that task

Can you use this with ear buds?
Yes! It can be used with wired (3.5mm) or Bluetooth headphones. Of course while out and about, please be safe and use either bone conduction or something with a good transparency mode so you can continue hearing your environment.
as for the crosswalker helperr is that all it does just show you were to cross ok you know were to cross now how do you know it is safe to cross
As Sam mentioned in the video, you still need to use your O&M skills. But the crosswalk will not only show you where the crosswalk is, but using it during the crossing, it will tell you if you are veering off-course to the left or to the right of the lines.
As far as crosswalk detection seems like pretty good what they have, but it would be really great if they could license some of the technology from Oko that would look at the crosswalk light detection and give that information as well. That would make this so much better system for that.
Second question which is kind of one that I would have is OK so great outdoors how good would it indoors? One of the problems with GPS is without good reception indoors it doesn’t do anything for you indoors is there anything with the Wi-Fi capability that would allow us to help navigate indoors, pretty cool device. I think I’d like to keep my eye to learn more. Thanks for your review.

What about crosswalk that are not marked?
Doesn't work for those. This is only for official pedestrian crosswalks which should always be marked.
Would be good if it told you when the cross light comes on. This would help for those times when tactile and audible systems fail.

How are you supposed to find the bar code if you can't see it????
As Sam talks about in this video and from my experience with it, it will take a picture of the barcode once it finds it, so you just keep spinning the box until it indicates that it has detected that barcode, and in this respect, I find it much more helpful than the iPhone apps I have used when scanning barcodes.
I know assistive aids are expensive because there aren't many of us out there, but that price is dumb. What happened to the philosophy of the KNFB reader?
I saw the video about KFB reader a few days ago, I got really interested in it, but it seems to be disappeared completely
They just changed the name, it's called one step reader now
Hey!!! How do you know you are even pointing that thing in the right direction? Or are you supposed to just walk around with that thing held out in front of you, and trying to hear it over all the other news.
You are supposed to "Hunt" and "peck" with that camera thing until it finds something.
Once again, it seems like a bunch of sighted people designed this thing, thinking blind people will take the time to use this thing in specific environments.
Can you imagine trying to use this thing in a crowded city, or in store while people are also trying to shop around you?
Will our society wait for you to get out your gizmo and wave it around?
I have people asking me all the time if I need help picking out creamer in the dairy section, and I am not waving a weird device out in front of me.
