early 70's me and 2 roommates lived in an apartment corner of 36th and Gaffey across from Angels Gate Park. we were young longhaired musicians in our 20's living the life, mornings I'd drive to El Camino College, afternoon would teach guitar at Sounds & Strings Guitar Store, evenings we'd head out to play clubs, come home 2-3 a.m., watch Westerns until dawn saw just about every Randolph Scott movie ever made, that's all that was on TV in those pre video /cable days. often would walk down to Pt. Fermin Park, maybe take some Italian sub sandwiches from A1 Grocery and eat overlooking the ocean and Catalina Island in the distance. It was heavenly. Mid 1970's I moved to Tokyo and sadly left that all behind. In 2015 I took my Japanese family for a visit to S Calf, South Bay, the beaches, Rolling Hills, Palos Verdes, Wayfarer's Chapel, and Pt Fermin Park - with Italian subs from A-1 Grocery! they loved it. Thank you for this beautiful video! cliff in tokyo
My grandfather worked on this base, this was his office. He worked in Army Intelligence & he was involved with that Bell. They had missiles stored under ground there during WW2
I have been there it’s very beautiful you can see the bell that Korea gave us for friendship you can also see the water it also used to be a military base that’s what my uncle told me when we were there it was very beautiful and I hope to go there again
Fun facts - the Friendship Bell was the backdrop for a scene in “The Usual Suspects” and Point Fermin Park was in “Chinatown” and an episode of “Mad Men”.
I had an accident there. I went over that small wall and fell all the way to the bottom I had to be rescued by helicopter lol I was drunk got a ticket for trespassing.
@@glamorous4eva It’s in the same area! Turn right once you leave the Korean Bell and there’s a huge parking lot down the street. Beyond the railing is a literal sunken city, you see the roadways and old buildings from long ago. It’s really cool!

Holding the bell ringer back while swinging the bell to come into range of the ringer, at midnight, is frowned upon.
