It's amazing how this video was released in 1993 but looks very modern. The wardrobe, hair, makeup all look timeless and could be worn in 2022 without people looking at you weird.
“If” is an absolute masterpiece. You’re spot on that it sounds even more current than it did almost 25 years ago. Hands down one of my favorite Janet songs and videos. The whole voyeuristic quality makes the lyrics and choreography burn even more! Thank you for this!!! Love hearing your take on what had me on the dance floor many moons ago!!
The strings at the beginning when the music starts is sampled from the beginning of the Supremes last #1 hit "Someday We'll Be Together" from 1969. So cool.
Yay finally a person that knows of Tina. I wanted to be her. I even cut my hair that was down to my lower back just like hers. For 4 days straight I watched and taught myself the choreography and won first place for my performance. When MJ died and Janet did a tribute for him on the vma all these dancers were apart of it. Tina looked the same even the same hair cut.
Anything 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s Janet is QUALITY through and through (and 2015’s Unbreakable). I’d say this song and video alone had a major influence on the new crop of pop girls that would come along in the next 5-10 years. It was a “lightning in a bottle” pop moment for sure. She’s just a killer ARTIST and performer.
this is the song that introduced me to janet and every since then I've been on janet fever people need to stop discrediting her she is one of the greatest entertainers of all time been in the business since she was 7 years old her legacy matters she is the queen & the blueprint and I don't care what people say this woman deserves the world.
I still remember when the janet. cd came out. The first time I was playing it and "IF" came on I was up and dancing like I actually knew how to dance. Yes, this song has aged like wine. When the song starts, that intro, my heart immediately starts beating fast. Oh, take me back in time.
This is my ALL TIME favorite Janet video EVER!! She looks AMAZING and the dancing in this video is off the charts!! Wow! Just LOVE this song and video!! Wish she’d come back with more music like this in 2020!
Your reaction made me tear up a little cause it took me right back to hearing it for the first time when I was in 5th grade and accepting right there That it was my duty to learn the entire choreo and just loving this moment in time
This iconic choreo is by Tina Landon (she’s in here too, with the black page haircut and leathervest). She also did Brithey’s Ooops..., Ricky Martin’s Livin’ La Vida Loca, Christina’s Come On Over, Pussycat Dolls Don’t, Rihanna, Shakira and on and on. You can also see her as one of Jen’s friends in the Waiting For Night video.
Love Janet, but this remains my favorite era, everythingg was on point. Most people like to remember the early 90's as the "grunge era", but i remember it as the time when amazing music of all genres was topping the charts, and Janet came out with this amazing album, image, and videos, what a time to be alive :)
I remember watching this in high school and was so turned on by it lol the naughty lyrics were very suggestive as well. Still love the song and choreography to this day.
I LOOOOOOOOVE the way you reacted and your comments so I will def be following you. lol. Janet is my EVERYTHING I have been a fan since i was 11 and im now 41 so im a loyal fan and have seen her on tour numerous times all over the world and still til this day IF is my all time favorite and I always look forward in seeing her perform it live in concert
This is my all time favorite Janet dance song. The video is so good with the choreography, very well done. But the song itself has definitely held up very well over time. I’ve always loved the transition from the verse to the chorus and the vocal layering that is done through out the song is priceless.
They were also the biggest stars of the 80s. That was a time when rivalries didn't exist, but all artists could co-exist and great music was the only thing that mattered. Music was great back then.
Madonna was always a little pressed over JJ to be honest. J was the better dancer and and more natural performer IMO. Hell of a song writer too with the best production team in the industry.
adua78 that’s a bold statement when we all know Madonna is the best selling one by far out of the two. While I love JJ her major success was from 1990-2001 where as Madonna spanned 3 decades before taking a hit on popularity or production. I will agree that when Janet works with the right team she puts out epic albums. Her last album unbreakable was fire 🔥 after so many years without a solid album.
I actually like both of their music. People assume they hated each other, because allegedly Madonna said bad things about Janet on her date with Michael.
Matthew Dunne Janet success was from 86 -2004. The Super Bowl incident sideline her career. She became enemy #1 when that happened. Viacom would not plan any of her material on their radio and video channels.
Perfection from the background vocal stacks, the samples used, the theme of the video, the choreography, rock guitars, the talented dancers and actors, cinematography, and Janets overall stage pressence/vocal performance. This lady is the blueprint and this is literally one for the ages
When the "janet." album came out in 1993 i was about 13 and my cousin let me listen to it. "If" stood out immediately, and I knew it would be my favorite track. Its still in my top 5 Janet songs even after all of the music she's released since then. That album went on to sell over 20 million copies worldwide
Wow brought chills up my spine...so much memories back in the 90's. Asian and black theme heavily influenced rap n r&b back in the days from Faith Evans, Madonna singing in a cheongsam during Take a bow performance with Baby Face up to current date with Nikki Minaj. But I was a young adult then and we use to party at a r&b club and one night they happened to play this track and there were these 3 gorgeous chinese asian girls dressed up in traditional cheongsam dress with long black ponytails and chopsticks in their hair. Definitely a sight i tell ya! Well they got the crowds going and danced to "If". We coined them the "If girls". So what we decided to do was practice the whole choregraphy and come back the following weekend and slay this track on the dance floor. My crew was a bunch of Jamaicans, Trinis, and hot filipino asian girls. The track was requested from the DJ from one of us and we tore it up!!!! This club was three floors high and the main dance floor had floor to ceiling view from the balconies. Man the memories of youth. Thank you Derek for giving me those chills. Awesome reaction vid. Loved it!👏👏👏❤💚💚💛💜
Still know this choreography by heart some 27 years later... And I can thank this track for winning me a meet and greet with Janet in Washington back in 93.
oh I never got the password thing at the begining!! LOL...so you have to do Rythm Nation, Miss You Much. Escapade.. my favorites dance performances!! I remember some of those moves!! so good!!
Every nightclub in this era was industrial. It was fastest trend to move from the east to the west coast. Music and fashion before the internet always started in New York and eventually moved to L.A.
Tina Mutha Fukkin Landon!!!!! I spent the entire summer of 1993, between the 6th and 7th grade, learning this choreography. I collected all performances of this song that I recorded on the VCR and I used that and the all dance version of the video to see every angle I could see. I used rewind, pause and slow motion on the VCR to get as much of the choreography down as I could. It was like a job to me!
I love this song so much. I still remember back in the day on the dance floor jamming to the remix of this. I'm singing along. My friends like , how do you know the words by heart lol I just thought. How do U not lol some ppl can't sing "fast" lol
I love this video so much. In the BTS footage, the director said about her entrance onto the stage ‘The doors open, the wind blows, the fabric blows, and YOU.GO.WITH.IT!’ Epic!!!
Keep your Beyoncé, Rihanna, And all the new generation..I prefer my GENERATION : Madonna, Janet, Paula Abdul ❤️❤️❤️ ! Love your reaction to the best chorégraphy of all time for a female !!
Have you watched Together Again, the song she wrote in tribute to her friends that died from AIDS? It's a joyous celebration of their lives, and my favorite of her dance songs.
Oh damn. I love seeing your reaction. This is legit your first time seeing this? “If” is my all time favorite Janet song after her other ridiculously amazing Rhythm Nation song and especially Video...and this Choreography. I remember when it dropped and we all practiced and learned her iconic choreography. U r so passionate and so pleased it’s interesting to see it through someone else’s eyes after all this time..I think Rhythm Nation was the first of its kind as far as videos. Maybe Michael had one or two. But it’s definitely one for the books! The other iconic Janet video and song Was when she RE-APPEARED after becoming A Woman, “ Love will never do without you”... she looked so amazing.....
Janet said she wanted a "voyeurism" vibe which basically the act of watching especially in sexual cases she really wanted to go out of the box and push boundaries and she did
timothy chung are you really still holding a grudge for something she said 27 years ago 😂 gtfo, she’s said supportive things about Madonna since, and Madonna started it with the “rhythm nation? Bite your tongue” comment
@@foxesamu Yup!!! Not only that but when she went on date with Michael that one time, apparently she was talking serious sh!t about Janet but he immediately shut it down!!! Madonna has said horrible things about so many female artists: Janet, Mariah, Lady Gaga, etc. She is known for being mean! Even Cher said it! lol
@timothy chung its the celebrity world everyone is going to have their shady moments and madonnas erotica album drew inspiration from the new jack swing genre which janet started a trend for soo....... but the fact your mad about this and its 2020 is whats funny
The awesome choreographer is Tina Landon, the dancer with the short dark bob haircut. Another former Laker Girl like Paula Abdul. I was 18 when this came out and learned all the choreography. Lol
Janet solidified her place in dance iconography with just the breakdown alone!
👏👏👏👏👏❤️
Sounds as good as new, that’s the charm of the 90s,love Janet and her music 🥰🥰❤️❤️
She absolutely nailed it!
Janet Jackson is so Gorgeous 🔥👑🪄🎼🔥🎶🧨👏🩰🌎 Nothing Compare!
It's amazing how this video was released in 1993 but looks very modern. The wardrobe, hair, makeup all look timeless and could be worn in 2022 without people looking at you weird.
JANET birthed the 'pop girls' of today.......she is and always will be the QUEEN OF POP
One of the greatest dance breaks in music video history.
when this song came out i was only 13..the album ROCKS
The strings at the beginning when the music starts is sampled from the beginning of the Supremes last #1 hit "Someday We'll Be Together" from 1969. So cool.
A masterpiece and Tina Landon best choreographer in the world
She really is!
100% !!!! Janet's choreography post Tina, while good, never came close to as great as Tina's work with her.
YES!! Tina Landon is the best
She is i remember her.
This is when I became attracted to Janet. The whole janet. era did it for me, especially when she did the Rolling Stone cover ❤

You do what everyone does with that break down - I can watch it all day and it’s one of her most well known dances

The whole 'janet' album from 1993 is a masterpiece. Should be listened to from beginning to end, one long megamix 👍
My queen Janet , the trailblazer of dance videos ❤

iconic indeed!😍
My favorite Janet song is Love Will Never Do (Without You).
@californiahummus, especially the roger s. narcotic vocal mix plus the narcotic voyage mix are great
In 93’ I was just a 7 year old when this song was released. 🥰 the feelz, her music a long with other artist of that decade are timeless.
Love Janet, but this remains my favorite era, everythingg was on point. This is one of her definitive tracks and I love the video.
YOU ARE CORRECT, IT IS AWESOME , ALL OF IT, 100%
She was ahead of her time......
Such an underated banger. Love it!
I love seeing the younger generation appreciate Janet for the pop icon she is. She deserves so much more respect than she gets.

Iconic, love Janet ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Well " IF " I had the choice I would go back to the 80's.
"Love will never do without you" is another gem of hers. Great reaction btw.
Love Will Never Do and If we're my 2 favorite songs!
If anyone deserves a look in, in the same way as Madonna, it is Janet.
ABSOLUTELY 100%
Yessssssss. Thank you for reacting to this. React to Janet’s All Nite Dont Stop please!!
This is such a huge hit by janet Jackson loved your reaction and yes she is rockin it on this video
Man the first time I saw this video I was all the shooketh. THAT choreography left me dead. This entire song is iconic.
Black Cat by her is a must to check out.
Janet Jackson The 👑 queen never disappoint her 💖 Music 🔥 her voice 🔥 video 'sEverything🌎🪄🎶💖🔥👏🎶🏆🎼🩰💓🧨🔥 the Best of the Best?!!!
Janet was ahead of her time..
Between Janet and Madonna you had two of the biggest stars on the planet in the 90s. A big rival went on but I always loved both equally.
They were also the biggest stars of the 80s. That was a time when rivalries didn't exist, but all artists could co-exist and great music was the only thing that mattered. Music was great back then.

This song and video was so ahead of its time even i a Janet fan liked it but i didn't love it....now 20 plus years later ...I live 4 it lol
Please react to Paula Abdul '' Straight Up'' Paula was Janet's Choreographer for the Control Era.
Perfection from the background vocal stacks, the samples used, the theme of the video, the choreography, rock guitars, the talented dancers and actors, cinematography, and Janets overall stage pressence/vocal performance. This lady is the blueprint and this is literally one for the ages
Absolutely love the “Love Child” sample and how it blended so well.
Sometimes I revisit this video just for that iconic dance moment.
When the "janet." album came out in 1993 i was about 13 and my cousin let me listen to it. "If" stood out immediately, and I knew it would be my favorite track. Your reviews are A-1. I love how attuned you are to detail. And how you picked up on the theme & metaphors/meaning. Good job young man.
Janet J at the height of her powers. Black Cat is a great track as well.

Madonna and Janet are real Queens. They have always been slaying it!
Still know this choreography by heart some 27 years later...
And I can thank this track for winning me a meet and greet with Janet in Washington back in 93.
@reddingmalik Meeting Janet? It was a meet & greet so very quick. She was lovely of course.
@reddingmalik Yeah! That’s a memory for life! Can’t believe it’s 30 years ago tho…
This song and video still goes hard!!
Written and Produced by J Jackson J Jam and T lewis
Loved this video when it came out, and it is still just as great
that was a good one!
I get the chills watching this video every single time. I've seen it live 4 times and I freak out every time
Iconic and timeless.
A great follow up to If would be Free your mind by En Vogue
oh I never got the password thing at the begining!! LOL...so you have to do Rythm Nation, Miss You Much. Escapade.. my favorites dance performances!! I remember some of those moves!! so good!!
My favorite Janet song. Makes me feel empowered.
This is such a sexy song . The choreography , so sensual . This and her song THROB are definitely on my “get it” mix ! Hahaha 😉
Every nightclub in this era was industrial. It was fastest trend to move from the east to the west coast. Music and fashion before the internet always started in New York and eventually moved to L.A.

Now please react to Janet Jackson's Pleasure Principal
it's a bop and Janet slays
Another video that shows why she's the 'G O A T'
I love this video so much. In the BTS footage, the director said about her entrance onto the stage ‘The doors open, the wind blows, the fabric blows, and YOU.GO.WITH.IT!’ Epic!!!

Love me some JANET
A Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis Production.
Have you watched Together Again, the song she wrote in tribute to her friends that died from AIDS? It's a joyous celebration of their lives, and my favorite of her dance songs.
PLEASE react to "Miss you Much"
One of the best videos of the 90s
React to the music video of "Doesnt Really Matter" by Janet
This video introduced touch screens before it was a thing
Touch screens were already a thing in Star Trek: The Next Generation (1988) 🙂
@@johneirikhomme1458 But nobody remember that.
You should react to rhythm nation live at the velvet rope tour.. Its perfection and shows her dancing choreo with nunchucks
Holy crap...that def sounds interesting

You should check the lyrics out this is freaky Janet and I'm here for it and loving it!! And the choreography is just perfect!
Easily my favorite song/video of Janet's.
Never listened to this from that perspective ❤
The awesome choreographer is Tina Landon, the dancer with the short dark bob haircut. Another former Laker Girl like Paula Abdul.
I was 18 when this came out and learned all the choreography. Lol
Sure, the song has aged fairly well. But it samples The Supremes' "Someday We'll Be Together" from 1969, and THAT has aged even better.
That is my favorite Supremes song by far!
i should check Supremes out!
teppolundgren She also sampled “Love Child” on that album in the song You Want This.
And what a killer sample that is.
Janet clearly has a thing for Diana Ross, because she even sampled "Love Hangover" on her "Velvet Rope " record.
One of my absolute favourite pop jams of all time! So damn sexy 🔥
To get into some "Raves" you had to get a phone number to find out a password in order to get into them.
Derek you’ve never heard this song? Were you living under a rock? Janet is the bomb
Love this 💕
😀 awesome video
No my first name ain’t baby...it’s JANET miss Jackson if your nasty😉 she’s fantastic!!! Great review btw my dude
