this was excellent!!!.. I thought my drum carder had worn out, as the licker-in would not lick any in.. it would not even turn.. watched your video and we took ours apart and unwrapped and cut away a big bunch of fiber.. put it back together just like you did... Wow.. it's like a brand new carder... Thank you!!!
Thanks so much for this video. My carder has been bunged up for weeks - it isn't now! I was scared to pull it apart - goodness knows why - thanks again.
Glad it helped!
Thanks.I really wanted to see how you put on the drive band. I guess I’ll take it all apart first.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. 🙏 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑
Thanks so much! I was really apprehensive about taking my carder apart but with your detailed video it was a breeze !!!
Glad it helped!
Amazing how much accumulates in there!
What are the cleaning and oil you used, or something similar? I don’t recognise the brand (uk)
Any thoughts on cleaning the actual tines of the carding cloth if you’ve been carding greasy fleece? I have some Batt I’m carding by hand and when I washed it I realised how filthy it was! Same could apply to a drum carder. How about soaking some clean fibre in rubbing alcohol and carding that, would that do the trick? I saw a louet demo of cleaning and he suggested scrubbing with soap and water, but I don’t want to get my tines rusty! Come to that, I’ve seen metal go rusty when soaked in 99% alcohol, so it’s that last one percent that caused the rust
The Boos Block I wipe the wood down with is called spoon oil or cutting board cream. It is a blend of wax and mineral oil. And I oil anywhere there is metal on metal with the same oil I use for my spinning wheel (10-20 or 10-30 weight machine oil). From everyone I've talked to, there's not a practical way to get grease off the carding cloth if you card in the grease. But alcohol will break down the carding cloth, so I wouldn't recommend it.
Your video stops before you take the handle off. Mine seems stuck. Any tips?
