    Hey Kasey, on my Z8 i've tried every single profile with all different settings for my pro Videography besides my Photography and i PROMISE you these are the best settings for image quality on Nikon, hope you try those once more, you will be blown away i'm sure:
    - Metering/ exposure menue Finetune optimal exposure: Matrix metering -1/6
    - Noise Reduction OFF
    - Standard profile (Nikon chooses best skin tones and general colors there)
    - Sharpness -0.5
    - Midrange sharpness +2.0 (If you lower it you get that weird water color effect)
    - Clarity -1.0
    - Contrast -0.75
    I promise you i've tried everything, including NLog with a Lut and still this is the most natural fantastic image that Nikon provides. I mean well, hope you try it again . All the best :)

    The negatives are annoying, I'll give ya that. Limited button mapping. Doesn't allow setting changes on-the-fly. No manual focus switch on the body. Deep menu dive needed to get 1080 180 set up. That's a few strikes that can't be ignored. I think the right thing is to get one used like CC did. I do love me some Nikon colors for sure. They're so rich and accurate to my eyes.

      Also i gotta say if we compare this nikon z30 woth the cameras its teying to compete with theb even having all these buttons including some customisable ones is beyond what you'd get in the competition and for me as one of the nikon users from before the mirrorless era i gotta say i feel like i cam change settings on a nikon much easier that a sony for example but that might just be being used to setting buttons to exactly what you need and being used to their setting systems. And then getting a camera woth a great kit lens, all the F mount lenses available to use on it, anodised aluminium body and weather sealed, that is such a plus

    I have a Nikon D600 with F mount which is presently for taking occasional images (work). The video output for this camera from 2012 has good color, DR and looks great, especially with vintage lenses. There is an issue with moire under certain conditions that can rear it's head but the majority of time taking video there were no issues. It doesn't shoot 4k so will keep to the GH5 but in comparing the two, there is a certain richness to the Nikon image that makes it still viable considering it's age.
    Even have the first Atomos Ninja that I bought for it. Probably should shake off the dust and play with it again. Full HD isn't a breathless corpse yet.

  • @baconcrusader8382
    @baconcrusader8382 Год назад +8

    Just live with the Nikon system for a while. You'll see they are grounded in designs and feature-sets for creators not marketers. The menu system will make sense, the ergo's of everything, including the lens mount direction-- all start making sense when you actually use the gear in real world scenarios for a period of time. You missed some easy menu items that would address your "cons," but such is life when you have a lot of content to produce. Great job as always Homie!
    I've been shooting Nikon for a long time, and while they may not be flashy, they can be depended on to create some world class images when used properly, and are a joy to use day in and day out professionally.

    for the video world the zf added some quality of life things. but its still not ready for prime time. the wave for just has 3 bars not 10% increments like a normal waveform. and most have said the lack of customization of buttons is a lil frustrating. and while its has up to 120 fps, it would be nice to have a camera crank setting like the gh series, where you can shoot from 2fps to 120+ . maybe they will get there, then ill go all in on nikon bodies again. but till then not yet.

    At least Nikon uses true USB 3.0 as opposed to Panasonic liars who advertise it as 3.0 but it will only ever transfer files at 2.0 speeds. Plus, the 16-50 lens, the screen, the viewfinder and the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are all top-notch. I just wish the ZFc wasn't so plasticky and the battery door wasn't so cheap that it wobbles and is missing a spring.

      WELL THEN. Clearly my research was flawed. Son of a b. My apologies. I guess you could theoretically go with an F mount lens adapted. A lot of f mount lenses have great stabilization with the best being the lenses that have the gold ring and gold "N" designation. I know it might not work for you because it would add some extra weight, but from my experience, the 16-80mm f2.8-4E (480grams lens + 125grams FTZ2) lens has the most outrageous stabilization out of any nikon lens I've used (I also confirmed on nikon's website that VR does carry over to Z bodies from adapted lenses). Optically, the lens is fantastic as well. You can get them on the used market for around $500-$700 too. There may be other options available that are lighter too.

    Man, I like Nikon bodies, but their approach to customizing buttons and dials is horrible. Also the thing that when in manual mode you cannot adjust exposure compensation without pressing a button is a deal breaker for me. I would love to have a Nikon, but for archaic controls reason I cannot give them any cash.

    • @1armbiker
      @1armbiker Год назад

      There’s plenty of customization on the pro stuff, Z9, D3/4/5/6, even the D500 has a lot of customization. It’s just the bottom line budget stuff that doesn’t have the buttons for customization.

    • @skyrunr
      @skyrunr Год назад

      You can set exposure compensation to a lens ring or use "easy exposure compensation" which uses the rear dial. I prefer the button approach because you can automatically reset it (off/on,) and it prevents forgetting the dial is set to -2. Not to mention getting nudged in storage.

    • @kynio3433
      @kynio3433 Год назад +1

      @@skyrunr Lens ring is not really good solution as I stroke it accidentally, especially with gloves. Easy exposure compensation is specific to A and P modes. I was talking about manual. It will be great if I can set back dial for EC in manual and set the EC button for aperture, but Nikon does not allow that. With Nikon I have to constantly do workarounds, which should be solved by designers. Button approach when tracking bird is not good, because I have to stop AF to adjust EC. Not to mention that mode dials should be placed on the right side of a viewfinder, so I can easily operate with right thumb and index. Meanwhile the more expensive Nikon camera the mode dial is getting more ridiculous and finally changes into button in Z8/Z9. This is really fantastic idea, when you have your left hand on 600mm lens.

    • @kynio3433
      @kynio3433 Год назад

      @@1armbiker OK, if that is true, can you toggle autofocus areas by pressing a button or do you press a button and then select with a wheel? Can you program one of the dials to be EC or ISO, when in manual mode? I'd love if the answer is yes to any of those questions ;)

    • @skyrunr
      @skyrunr Год назад

      @@kynio3433 Great points. I don't use the top panel LCD and would rather have a few customizable lock/unlock dials, or at least one (A7IV.) I tinkered with the Z50 as my first ML camera, and loved the all the buttons on the right approach. It was easier (more intuitive) to switch to the Z50 than to the Z7II it was paired with at the time. The Z8 and ZF couldn't be setup the way I wanted either. I specifically couldn't set spot metering directly to a button, or the button I wanted it set to when I could. Something I've done for years with Nikon DSLR's, and most of the other Z's.
