I think it shows that people like John Lennon are more than just hits. it shows that they're more than the final recording of a single. you can enjoy 1st takes of deep cuts on the album just as much as the final singles from the album!
The Beatles began when John was 20. He met Yoko in his 20s. The Beatles ended and this album was recorded when he was 30. He was murdered when he was 40. This is a special piece of music. A great work of art.
Returning in July 2024...I have to say YOURS is STILL the definitive review of this stellar album. Very well presented and I so appreciate your respect and excitement for this masterpiece. Thank you for taking such care and love with this presentation.
This album is definitely my personal favorite that he’s ever done after the break up of the Beatles and the box set. They came out in 2021 so very very awesome. All the songs on the box set are my favorites… because The John Lennon/plastic ono band LP is my favorite Lennon album!
I think this album is not just one of John’s best, but I think I’d put it in the 50 best albums, period. It’s so raw and emotional, but at the same time it’s still so catchy and musically interesting
Klaus Vorman (pronounced Klowssss Forman) was one of the 'Exees' The Beatles hung out with in their early Hamburg days. He was also the bass blayer in Manfred Mann, artist on the Revolver album and bassist for the Plastic Ono Band

There use to be a bunch of unreleased home tapes from John on RUclips. Unfinished songs, demos of songs, etc. they were all taken off of RUclips. I really hope that they get an official release like all the home tapes on the POB ultimate mix. That would be really cool.

I recently was researching the tracklist of this album on Wikipedia and I found of interest that the song Remember was rehearsed during the making of Abbey Road -a song that could have been a Beatles song.
Most of the post breakup albums could have been made into Beatles albums. McCartney, Ram, Plastic Ono Band, Imagine, and All Things Must Pass would have been amazing as Beatle albums.
If you hear him playing it during Abbey Road sessions it's still basically just the piano vamp, very far from a finished song...so I guess it could have evolved into a song but it wouldn't have been Remember.

I bought the vinyl and the box set. The book that comes with the box set is amazing really sets the scene for the album. John’s voice seems to be a lot more front and center. Overall an amazing remix!!!

It's a lovely set for the greatest solo album from the fab four. I didn't get it because I don't want to know how the album was put together for this one - but great for people who do.
I have the cd/blu-ray box and have luxuriated in the hi-res BDs with their deep sound. I can recommend anyone who can get near a surround system capable of Dolby Atmos to listen to the remixed album that way. I bought this to see if I could reconcile with a record that I considered harsh and unloveable and would have sold it on if I was still resistant. Instead I was compelled to get through all of it and to go through the various stages of the recordings, returning to the main album repeatedly. Guess it won :)
When I first heard this album, I didn't get it. I was a kid who loved the Beatles, and this album just wasn't "Beatle-ish" at all. The songs weren't very catchy, couldn't really sing along, kind of gloomy, sad and angry or melancholy. I'm much older now. I've been through love and heartache, happiness and sadness. The themes found in the album are so touching and timeless. John truly bares his heart and soul on every track. I love this album.
I imagine all of those first solo albums from the ex-Beatles were a shock... All things Must Pass and McCartney don't sound Beatle-ish at all either, and Ringo's was a cover album of songs from when most Beatles fans were still in diapers.

I’d love to let you know my opinion on the ultimate mixes boxset but seemingly there’s serious distribution issues in Australia’s mail system of late or that retailers are being let down by supply chain issues due to the pandemic
I think John kinda lost it when he hooked up with Yoko. That screaming he does on the "Mother" track is the same screaming he did with Harry Nielsen when he challenged Nielsen to a screaming contest in the studio. Nielsen's voice wasn't the same after and could no longer hit those higher notes. It's crazy that John game up recording to put his energy on bringing up Sean. McCartney manged to continue recording whilst having bringing up four kids and just took the whole family on tour!
That wasn't the whole reason John stopped but it was a good hook to explain it away. He felt very much that his last couple albums had only been made because it was time to make an album, he didn't want to be on that treadmill producing albums on a conveyer belt the way Paul was.
Yoko Ono just had to place some of her crap on this release to make some more money off John's name! Are you guys certain this isn't a Yoko Ono release with her crap music and cretinous pics spread all over the damned box set?

How could you do an unboxing without even mentioning what was on each of the 6 CDs? You spent most of the time going through the book (???). I would redo this video.
It's all a bit too much. The Album is great....and that is what was intended. All the posters and postcards are rubbish. And then you get 6 versions of each song and that's really going over the top. The demos, the raw versions, the alternate versions, the ultimate versions: C'mon, give me a break !

How could you do an unboxing without even mentioning what was on each of the 6 CDs? You spent most of the time going through the book (???). I would redo this video.

It's all a bit too much. The Album is great....and that is what was intended. All the posters and postcards are rubbish. And then you get 6 versions of each song and that's really going over the top. The demos, the raw versions, the alternate versions, the ultimate versions: C'mon, give me a break !
