  • I'm elated to share (again) this fabulous song inspired by the great Jim Steinman -- 'I'll Decorate This City In Ribbons Of Blood' is composed by fellow Steinman enthusiast, Scaramouche / David J. Smith and it's one of my favorites!!
This song is written for the one and only Joker in Scaramouche's vision for a Batman musical.
I am absolutely thrilled to sing this brilliant creation once again!
    Merry Christmas everybody!
(hope you like what I do!)
    (sorry, couldn't resist, lol)
    Words & Music by David J Smith © 2007
    Lyrics:
I’ll decorate this city, in ribbons of blood
On ev’ry single avenue, in ev’ry darkened street
I’ll decorate this city, in ribbons of blood
With ev’ry beating heart I pull, from ev’ry soul I meet
‘Cos killing is my business, and business is good
I’ll hunt ‘em all down, in ev’ry damn neighbourhood
So Merry Christmas Gotham City, hope you like what I do!
Merry Christmas Gotham, it’s my one gift to you!
Merry Christmas, Gotham City, hope you drown in my flood!
As I decorate this city, in ribbons, ribbons of blood!
I’ll decorate this city, in ribbons of blood
I’ll butcher ev’rything that moves, an feast on ev’ry yell
I’ll decorate this city, in ribbons of blood
Just watch the gore-fest I create, a nightmare worse than hell
‘Cos killing is my business, it gives me such a thrill
    A never-ending orgasm, I savour ev’ry kill
So Merry Christmas Gotham City, hope you like what I do!
Merry Christmas Gotham, it’s my one gift to you!
Merry Christmas, Gotham City, hope you drown in my flood!
As I decorate this city, in ribbons, ribbons of blood!
Kill ‘em all, kill ‘em all, amputate, disembowel
Fu@k ‘em all, fu@k ‘em all, slice ‘n’ dice, hear them howl
Fu@k ‘em all, fu@k ‘em all, kill them all!
    Amputate…(gooood)
    Disembowel…(that’s right)
Slice ‘n’ dice…(so naughty, but nice)
Hear them howl, hear them howl…(yes boys, I love it!)
Killing is my business, an tonight I’ll play my games,
I’ve got a cemetery of tombstones, and they’re waiting for your names
So Merry Christmas Gotham City, hope you like what I do!
Merry Christmas Gotham, it’s my one gift to you!
Merry Christmas, Gotham City, hope you drown in my flood!
As I decorate this city, in ribbons
As I decorate this city, in ribbons
As I decorate this city, in ribbons
    In ribbons,
    in ribbons,
    in ribbons
In ribbons, in ribbons, in ribbons of blood…
(oooooh, does anybody ever dream like this anymore?)

Comment 1 of 2. Changing things up! No crazily overblown, adjective-soaked, imagery-swollen narrative this time. For that - all you have to do is read my comment to Lauren’s posting of “ROB” from last year, and add a swarm of exclamation points … and a little linguistic “slash and dash-ery” here and there (like, maybe “… the way Lauren amped the ‘ribbons’ and beckoned the Joker in this new slaughterstorm of a performance brings an insanely welcome sort of sinister joy to the song!” :) Hahaha! What a fantastic way to start Christmas! Here’s to you, Lauren - “Everything ‘Merrier’ Than Everything Else!”

Comment 2 of 2. The holiday season - a time for inspired giving! Jim Steinman didn’t write this song. But his singular genius and indomitable creativity inspired David J. Smith (Scaramouche) to give us brilliant fun in the form of music and lyrics that “slice and dice, amputate and disembowel!” - in a fiendishly fantastic way! :) David didn’t sing this song. But his exceptional songwriting skills and ability to “channel” Jim inspired Lauren Bradley to give us spectacular thrills in the form of strikes and “sparks” and superhuman singing that, with villainous agility, “hunt us all down, in every damn neighborhood!” Lauren didn’t monetize this song. But her majestic vocals and manifest devotion to her craft, her zest and her zeal, inspired me to give … well, certainly not songwriting or singing stuff :):) but at least a little help. Jim died of kidney failure last year, a pernicious torment that claims the lives of legions of people annually. So, as a tribute to Lauren’s ridiculously phenomenal performance, and the uber-infectious enthusiasm that it so justifiably engenders, I made a considerable donation to the National Kidney Foundation in her name, in honor of Jim - and I strongly encourage my fellow “Smith & Bradley” viewers to do the same! Here’s a link to the donation site: www.kidney.org/donation - And here’s to you, Lauren, and to David, to Jim, and to the little bit of Joker in all of us - Happy Holidays!

Bryan, thank you so much for this. My fandom for Jim exists on many levels, as you know. And a gesture like this, I’m incredibly touched by and grateful for! For that, I thank you!
