Thank you. My mother came from Derby and I have never been there. Greetings from South Africa

The architecture is interesting. Among the uninspiring modern stuff there's the occasional glimpse of something that reminds you that this city was once somewhere rather special.

Yes if you want to see the history of Derby buildings you have to look up. The shop fronts will change but the higher parts of the buildings have mostly been left alone. That probably goes for everywhere though.

Left in 1974, not lived there since. Still mostly run down.

Jo, ok, das soll also die mieseste Stadt in UK sein, Derby. Manche Bilder lassen einen einer kalten Schauder zurück , aber insgesamt ist es eine nette kleine Stadt.

Derby is a unique city. It was given city status in the late 70s. What makes it different is that in reality it's secretly a town that definitely doesn't have the culture or capital to sustain itself as a city. So a short train ride to Sheffield or Nottingham makes you feel like you've arrived in San Franisco. On the upside, if you have developmental special needs or want to smoke black mamba, it is actually briliant and has a lot to offer.

It looks like the empty film set of some dystopian movie.
Back in the 70's & 80's you could hardly find room on the pavement to walk - now it resembles a permanent lockdown.

This takes me back to my childhood growing up in Derby. On many days St Peter's Street was so packed you could hardly walk, and it was impossible to visit all the shops in one trip. Now it looks like a scene from a post apocalyptic movie. I had the misfortune of moving back here in 2020 after 13 years in Nottinghamshire, and it has been the most miserable experience of my entire life :(
