A bonus of the BW Polaroid film is how much faster it develops opposed to the color film. It's almost like original Polaroid/Instax speed, which is fun to watch come in.
That’s a good call, I did notice that! Much faster than the color that I’m used to.
Yo you're right though. It's like half the time. I was surprised the first time I shot black and white on Polaroid
It’s almost summer…let’s see more Polaroid videos!
But of course it's the amazing Robin William in Mrs. Doubtfire ( may his soul rest in peace
I have recently been really loving BW instant film. I travel around with a bunch of old ass family photos, way before my time, many of which were shot on old 6x6 TLR or old peel apart Polaroid. When I shoot new BW instant film, especially Polaroid (as opposed to Instax) I get that same timeless mystique I feel from my grandparents old Polaroids. And when I pull the new ones out after several months or a year, I love'em even more. Great video as usual, man. Thanks for keeping the inspiration fire lit!
Love this! Thank you for watching!
And totally get that. Flipping through pages of Polaroids or even just big random boxes of them.. the best.
Always love Polaroid content, Matt, pls keep it coming!
It was great to see your experiments with black and white polaroid film, Matt. It makes me keen to get a pack for my Instax and to see what results I can achieve.
It would definitely be brilliant to see a video of you going out to shoot that last pack too. :)
loved it brotha!! really looking forward to to this next one 👀
The reference is from Mrs. Doubtfire!
Looks like I'm buying some BnW polaroid tomorrow.
Also, yes to every future video you mentioned. Keeeeeeeen
Love polaroid content not enough online! Perhaps a video sharing and discussing photo books that use instant film as it's main medium of choice! Could be a good one hehe
Just got a polaroid635cl with a pack of BnW and here you are uploading this video...coincidences are scary!
Bring on the instant content. Love that you’re also a Mint shooter, though I’m using the Instakon RF70
Love this man, thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing you shoot that last pack
Thank you! Hope to do it justice. ❤️
Here for any Matt Day content, but definitely would love to see some more polaroid stuff on this channel. I have a sx-70 and a sun 600, but after 6 or so packs, I've come to realize how quickly one can burn though $100 of instant film. Can't tell you how many times I've thought, "should be enough light"... still love it, but would love to see your process for b/w.
Man, it doesn't take long to burn through 'em! Definitely more instant film videos on the way. Appreciate you being here!
It looks great with a yellow gel filter
thanks man!
I love the instant film shooting experience. I'm going to watch any video you make about it! I've been using a Mamiya RB67 with a Instax Square back. But the camera is so big and heavy so I rarely use it because of this. Also I find it a bit tricky to focus and it has no light meter. So lots of work. Furthermore I like the look of Polaroid film a lot more than Instax film. So I'm going to get a Mint SLR like the one you have and try Polaroid for a change. At least the camera will be a lot lighter and more compact :)
I really appreciate that! I had that Instax back for a bit but I totally get what you mean. I didn't use it often specifically because of that. The folding design of the SX-70.. it's still just one of my favorites.
Great idea for a new video, would be a fun watch for sure.
Thank you! I'll make them happen!
Nice photos Matt
Yes always interested in your Polaroid thoughts and adventures please always share
That Ms. Doubtfire reference is *chefs kiss*
P.S., Those polaroids are beautiful!
I’ve been shooting a ton of Polaroid recently. Really getting back to my film roots…
We love some peel apart content 😤
I really like bw600. I get bitingly nice contrast sometimes indoors with a clear window light.
Would love to see the images you got with the last pack of FP-3000B!
Gotta love instanf film, please do more!
I just bought Fujifilm Instax Wide 300, I do own Polaroid 600, but man that film is expensive.
Also, now I feel like I gotta check out my TIP first flush stuff! :D I keep them with gel packs and hope it helps
I love the fp3000 hope to see that video
Hugs for you and the kids
Good father day Matt
Kisses from Santo Domingo
do it! polariods black and white are amazing!!
I would love more instant film content
This was a blast as always! Quick question about the MINT attachment: Do you have to send in your camera for any particular modification in order to use it with the SX-70?
That's correct. I can't take this attachment and put it on just any SX-70, it needs to be modified in order to accept the features.
I’ve gotten great results with an SLR680, so much so that the thought of owning a SLR670 has not crossed my mind at all. In fact I’ve attached a Rezivot power adapter to it and use Itype film and love the extra money I’ve been saving.
Oooh, never heard of that adapter! That’s interesting!
That 3:12 is an all timer classic photo i can tell.
I have been using Instax Wide monochrome with my Intrepid 4x5 and the Lomography Graflok Instax back. Fun stuff.
I've actually never shot any of the Instax monochrome film (that I can remember 🤔) but was curious about it the other day when putting this video together.
I remember I would have to take an almost 2hr bus ride just to get imposible film for my Polaroid. I’m glad Polaroid film is easier to have access to now 😭
Been tempted to get one of those rebuilt sx70s but for a thousand dollars I wish the film quality was better
Thanks for sharing! The Polaroids are really nice, I also prefer color with my SX70 but now I wanna try B/W again :)
Thank you! Have fun with it!
Just got given a Polaroid 600 type camera this week and took a few pics in colour. Think I was a bit close as out of focus. I do like the look of the b/w Polaroid film though, so might try that next. Thanks for this perfectly timed video 🙏
Love to hear that. The Polaroid 600 cameras that most of us grew up with in the 80’s or 90’s don’t focus as close as something like an SX-70, but still great cameras when used within their “limitations”
I still have one of my own that I’ve had for decades.
2:26
Mrs. Doubtfire! hahaha
always love your video!
please can you tell me how you set your lightmeter with mint camera? f8 or f11? it seems that with polaroid 600 film exposure is not f8 as for the sx70 film
Matt, could you please tell what kind of board is in the background that has photos on it? It looks like it would be great for sequencing images. Thank you!
more polaroid and bw please
Could you organise your books in height order please, tallest books on the outsides curving to littlest in the middle...I think you were saying something about a driveway, hollering at kids about a hose, and a weird brown stain (heat mark?) ... a follow-up episode is now essential 😂😂😂🍻
Okay Mr. Monk.

Hey Matt!
I've been a really big fan of the B&W Polaroid/Impossible films -- with a camera like an SX-70 or SLR-670, the contrast you can get out of them is fantastic, especially if using any strobes
For a few years, I was shooting about 400-500 shots per week between Polaroid Color, BW and Instax (Mini/Wide) and loved it!
Unfortunately, the B&W Polaroid/Impossible film doesn't hold up. The brown/orange edge you showed will only get much worse over time. I've found that the vast majority of my B&W polaroids from the last couple years have almost all turned to a sepia tone, lost a considerable amount of contrast and that "orange blob" started to creep much more into the frame of the image. I believe the blob is just excess chemicals from the rollers, and it doesn't seem to fully dry -- so over time it will actually grow in size and turn to a more orange color. If you use any of the duo-tone films, the decrease in contrast will actually cause the image to almost fully disappear and result in a solid color as it ages. Kind of a neat thing in that the photo develops in front of you and then slowly disappears, but not so neat when you consider the price of it! :)
I definitely recommend scanning any photos you'd like as they will change. The Color film seems less stable while developing (as it can quickly shift to Blue/Orange tones based on weather) but tends to remain pretty solid once it's fully set. The B&W is the opposite, staying pretty stable while developing but then not being able to retain that over time.
500 shots per week??? Your poor wallet!
Totally agree here though. I'm in Arizona and the heat really seems to take a toll on instant film both in development and over-time decay. Highly recommend scanning your polaroids quickly so you get the "purest" form of the photo while you still can.
@@jakejaramillo The wallet hurt for sure, especially when it came to the polaroids! (Instax were much easier on the wallet!). I shot around 40,000 across the various formats over about 3 years using a mix of off-the-shelf and 'frankensteined' cameras -- very, very expensive at the time but no regrets on shooting so much. I would rather have taken too many shots (and guaranteed ones I wanted to keep forever) than to shoot just a couple and have them not turn out. I had plenty that didn't turn out though! The 400-500 shots per week typically broke down to about 5-8 photoshoots/models per week, with about 80-100 photos each across the different formats
I haven't posted much lately, but I have a pretty good chunk of them on my instagram: instax.mike
100% agreed on scanning quickly! I picked up one of those bulk-load scanners that let you load a stack and have never looked back! Must-have for scanning lots of film!
I appreciate the heads up! I’ve already started to notice the slight shift in brown tone in these Polaroids since filming this video. 🥴
Might be using this film more for a scan or emulsion lift in mind specifically.. 🤔
Hi Matt
Great video
Question, can you share your technique for scanning Instant film
I know there maybe an issue with Newton rings so welcome your advice and guidance
Thanks
Andrew

Do you still need the extended frog tongue for the latest film batches from Polaroid Originals?
Would love to see you review the 'push' book by grant Brittain! Also a little technical question about the sx70. I have one too and It works but it's been a couple of years since I've used it and when I test it, it looks like the mirror slaps against the top of the camera creating a 'thump'. Is this normal?
So is Matt the bob Ross of photography?
Nice Mrs. Doubtfire reference. Lol
From what I've heard the new polaroid films are way less consistent than fuji instax stuff. I've only shot the instax stuff personally but some inconsistent/bad results has prevented me from getting a polaroid
I’d argue the Polaroid stuff has been getting a lot better. I started shooting in 2019, and most especially after the 2020 rebrand I really noticed a mark in quality. The Black and White sepia thing hasn’t been entirely fixed yet, but the film has gotten better. It’s to the point where sometimes on some batches that sepia thing is barely noticeable. But it depends and time will tell…
Dude, Where did you get that rack from that's holding your books? I'm looking for a sturdy rack for my books.
Instax monocrome has much better tones I feel. That does have a nice vibe though!
I've been shooting a lot of black and white iType on my RB67 and love it. I've been disappointed with the color iType I've shot; much prefer Instax's color look.
I'd like to create a series of landscape and close-up nature shots that look more fine art but not sure where to begin. Any suggestions on how to maximize those tonalities that you spoke about with using the b&w polaroid film?
Absolutely get an SX-70 style camera that will get you close focusing and good metering. That’ll go a long way in the end result!
How is the quality of Polaroid integral films today? Do the pictures still self-destruct over time if they aren't stored dry and properly? The products of the Impossible project never seemed to have the longtime-stability and durability that original films of Polaroid (until 2008) had. Do the present films have an acceptable quality and will the pictures be enjoyable for a long time without needing to worry that they will fade away soon?
Make that video! 🙏✌️
I think maybe those early days of TIP film is when I started following you on the socials...that's a trip! I'm also surprised at how the contrast is on your shots. I am more of a BW guy and shot A TON of TIP Black Frame BW and then Polaroid BW and since about 2018 it's always been a bit too contrasty. I think about the same time they switched the negative material as well.
I have slowed using it in the last year because of this and switched over to Instax Square Mono on my RB67. It doesn't have the same character as Polaroid film and still has a green tint, but is more consistent. But if the latest Polaroid is lower contrast I need to get some! What is the date on yours?
And yes, please shoot more BW, find some Black Frame BW and shoot it and please do a photo walk with some!
It’s been a long time, Patrick! So cool, man. Those early TIP days.. all of the feels. 🥹
Interesting to know that! This film was all purchased in January from MPEX and it was fresh, not sure specific date though.
More instant videos coming, I’ll try to grab some different framed stuff too!
Another vote for the black frame stuff. I splurge sometimes and get that and really like it, specially for the bw film.
Man, I’ve been having an itch to shoot instant film lately and considering getting an SX-70. Thinking about just getting an Instax printer since Polaroid film is so pricey
get the sonar version. you won't believe how accurate the autofocus is. plus, you can put it on a tripod. you'll need it even in the middle of the day if you shoot portraits with no direct sunlight.
I would say getting an instax printer won’t scratch the same itch for “shooting” instant film, at least for me. An SX70 is a step above really most instant cameras.
Don’t make me get the hose is from the movie Mrs.doubtfire. PLEASE GIVE ME THE POLAROID IM BEGGING YOU 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Dude that hair! So handsome!!
Also very nice photos. but people hear me out, you are NOT getting those results without an sx-70 or sx-70 Mint like our boy here. Polaroid cameras are NOT known for their accurate exposure of scenes. Be prepared for overwhelmingly under or over exposed pictures. Some people say it's part of the fun, I'm not one of those people. But I'll say it's definitly part of the challenge.
mrs. doudtfire!!
dude you look a lot younger
