@crazyjdkid I think you are right. Tonight I was googling and what I think it is, the fuel cap isn't letting in enough air in so after it runs a while a vacuum forms and it starves for gas. It makes sense because the first two times it happened I thought it ran out of gas so I opened the gas cap - it still had plenty of gas, but I filled it to the top and it ran fine for a while after that. The thing works great, it made fine fluffy dirt from a 30 year old pile of hard rooty dirt.
Love this tiller.A few things iv'e learned are, 1)They need the oil changed often b/c there is so little of it.I add a small dab of Lucas oil stabilizer to mine and it seems to like it. 2) They have no real fuel filter and a sensitive carb. so they really hate dirty/old gas. 3) Wetting down your work area just a little will help prevent dust from clogging the air filter as they get dirty easily but are a pain to clean properly. 4)The wheels are pointless. I would recommend this tiller.
These things are bulletproof, just like you said; I use a circa 1980 TroyBilt Horse with a new Briggs engine for the big stuff and a FG110 for the small jobs where the Troy won't go (gave the my old FG100 to my dad, that model was supposed to have a troublesome transmission, but we've beaten the daylights out of it, in rocks and just about anything, and the transmission is good as new). Good video.
Well I have never owned a mantis so no opinion on them. But they do use Echo for 2 cycles and honda for 4 cycles. I love my Honda fg 110. It makes starting or expanding new beds very easy. You get a lifetime tine warranty and Honda makes some of the best engines known to man. The tine design on the fg110 is a lot better too, it digs w/o effort. The Honda is much cheaper also. Hope this helped if you have any questions I would be glad to answer.
Check your transmission housing carefully for cracks, before your warrantee expires. Mine developed lots of cracks around the shafts after 2 seasons of use (about 10 hours total), unfortunately I didn't see them until after the 24 month warrantee was up.
I typed castor, I meant castrol. I was just reading the online manual and it said to use motor oil with classification api sj or later. The new classification is api sn. So Castrol 10w-30 it is. A little bottle of honda oil was supplied. I will keep the empty bottle to measure out the oil. This weekend I used it to make a ditch so that rain water will run away from the yard. It would get a tangle of roots after going so far, but the quick release of the tines make clearing them a breeze.
well this first time I used the standard 10w-30 honda oil for break in. But my next oil change I will use what ever brand of higher end 10w-30 HD oil I have(Castrol,Penzoil, or Vavoline to say a few). Oil is Oil. Your best bet is Castrol 10w-30 HD.
Yeah works good just needed a new starter for the spark plug and something else new carb and the blades wont spin but its fixed it was my grand pas but he gave it to me he always used it to make a huge garden every year but hes 99 now and stopped making a garden when he was 93 or 95 idk but he has black lung from working in the, coal mines but long storys
I have an additional video using it on my channel, go check it out. Briggs and Stratton does not make a commercial grade cultivator. All Honda vertical-shaft lawn mower engines on both Honda lawn mowers as well as other brands have been cast, assembled and shipped from the Honda plant in Swepsonville, North Carolina since 1982. This machine just so happens to be made in Taiwan. Honda Engines are warrantied for 3 years. I own briggs and stratton too,I have nothing against them! Thanks
Briggs make engines in China, too; many of their Vanguards are made by subsidiary of Toyota. Honda makes some of their engines in the USA. If you're gonna comment, please check your facts. I've heard that Kawasaki makes all their small engines in the US, but I find that hard to believe.
Do these things have a heat cut off? I was using mine and the motor stopped. After it cooled down it started right up and worked fine. But it did this a few times, I was working it out pretty hard.
i will b buying a tiller but dont know what one to get the honda fg 110 or the mantis tiller what do you think .cheers ps i am a self employed gardener so this should help me ,,,
I like my stihl there so nice and lite and there powerful and i dont want mine to sound like a dirt bike lol but dude thats a sweet honda tiller im not bashing it its really cool but i like my stihl never used anything else
Thank U Bro 4 video I watched it and went out to Home Depot and bought one. Got 10% off for Military discount. My philosophy is and has always been U get what U pay for well worth every penny
Glad to here that! I use my military discount there too! You can't go wrong with a Honda. Mine still runs and I just got a trimmer with the exact same Honda engine on it!(Full Review: Husqvarna 224L 4-Cycle Trimmer) I completely agree! Thanks for serving!
No this is a Honda Tiller. All of it is made by Honda. Here is a link to the honda on there website (powerequipment.honda.com/tillers/models/fg110) Mantis makes a tiller in which they use a Honda engine on it, not the same.
Nice to hear it run but I wanted to see you use it. Everyone is familiar with the quality of Honda but not everyone wants to support the asian economy while america sinks. If you're gonna advertise have Honda pay you then see how much you like the brand. Briggs and Stratton engines have a one pull start guarantee for two years and are made right here in the USA.
Well, a 4 mix is a 4 stroke engine but it gets its oil by mixing it into the gas. Before that air oil fuel mixture enters the combustion chamber, it travels throughout the engine. By the crankcase, cylinder and valves, then into the engine. I believe they don't have oil rings too
You don't have to do oil changes but if you put unmixed fuel in it than you're screwed. It's a trade off. Personally I think a 4 mix is better because mixing oil is easy af. You can have it run at all angles because there is no oil reservoir.
+RabbitFootedKitty Well you can run this Honda at all angles as well. I have a trimmer with the same engine and run it upside down to edge all the time for 10-20 minutes. Its one of the few 4 strokes that can! I change the oil in this once a season. All you have to do is twist off the drain plug, flip it upside down let it drain out and put 2.6oz of oil back in. Takes all of about 5 minutes. Thanks for watching!
what is the difference between a cultivator and a tiller? The "engine guard" looks a lot like a handle for lifting the machine off the ground. It actually digs and cultivates? wow! Why did you make this video? What the hell is an all directional four cycle engine? You don't even use it. What a waste of time.
+bobberjohn1 hmm I checked your channel to see what you have done for the common good on RUclips and it doesn't seem to show anything? Have you not made any videos? Why is that? I would love to watch perfect videos without any flaws. I have 2 other videos on my channel with the tiller in action. Rototiller- a motor-driven machine with rotating blades for breaking up or tilling the soil.Cultivator-a mechanical implement for breaking up the soil and uprooting weeds. Those definitions are straight from the dictionary, seem pretty interchangeable to me. If you don't understand what I mean by an all directional four cycle engine you do not need to be running any type of power equipment. Thanks for watching!
Just picked one up today. Worked the crap out of it for several hours right out of the box. It's a beast.

Same quality as hondas vehicles bro they always start, every Honda I owned always started on the first turn of the key, never no issues :) good purchase

Good recommendation. Bought one and this thing is a beast 👍
I like the sound of it, gives you a break from the 2 strokes
@marshalmurphy Yep you can get it with with the GX25 or the GX35 theres a $30 difference between the two.
I typed castor, I meant castrol. I was just reading the online manual and it said to use motor oil with classification api sj or later. The new classification is api sn. So Castrol 10w-30 it is. Hell yea man, they proved that frome to cars to tools

This might sound dumb. But is the dirt shroud or deflector made of metal or plastic? I am looking to purchase this unit.
Thanks,
Josh
Hi Josh! No suxh thing as a dumb question. The dirt shroud is made of metal. Thanks for watching!

Ok! thanks for the tip!
Thanks want one. Need different tones to break new soil?
Depends on the type of soil you have! I didn't purchase any different tines, the ones that come with it work well.
@Dasdfjkl Yep i love mine but I often find myself bumping the off switch on accident. So watch for that also
@spacebound67 yep there quality is supreme

You did'nt till with it. would have been nice to see how well it would dig into the ground.
krisg87806 Sorry about that! Please watch this video, it demonstrates it better in action! ruclips.net/video/bKARdHOeQic/видео.html
@BriggsEngine1 heck yes!
Is this the MAntis tiller ??

nice
Good general overview of this tiller I have a few videos with this in operation. ruclips.net/video/7IYRAs-CH8c/видео.html
The engine sounds like a stilh 4 mix
+RabbitFootedKitty Think of it the other way around! The 4mix sounds like this. This is a true 4-stroke, the 4mix is not.
Well, a 4 mix is a 4 stroke engine but it gets its oil by mixing it into the gas. Before that air oil fuel mixture enters the combustion chamber, it travels throughout the engine. By the crankcase, cylinder and valves, then into the engine. I believe they don't have oil rings too
+RabbitFootedKitty Yes I am very familiar with the different combustion cycles! There still isn't any benefit to a 4mix versus a traditional 4 stroke.
You don't have to do oil changes but if you put unmixed fuel in it than you're screwed. It's a trade off. Personally I think a 4 mix is better because mixing oil is easy af. You can have it run at all angles because there is no oil reservoir.

THATS NOT A HONDA THATS A TUCUMSEH
Sure! Keep thinking that!
If you go on my channel I have a video on the same tiller
Гениально
Спасибо за просмотр!

Couldn't watch it for long, his constant sniffing is off putting.
Sorry, that's what college stress does to ya.Working on it
