Perfect video, straight to the point and from someone I trust has made pumpkin a time or two the traditional way. Thanks a bunch! 😁

You're absolutely right...I've cooked MANY pumpkins! I can't stand to see them wasted this time of year!! Thanks for watching and commenting :)

Thank you. My gram always boiled her pumpkin around this time to make her pumpkin bread. I always cheated and used canned pumpkin. Now that I've seen your video I can make it all from scratch. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

You're very welcome! Boiling pumpkin is a good way to cook it, although it will add a lot of water to it. Even roasted pumpkin can turn out a bit watery, depending on the pumpkin variety. I'm glad this video was helpful to you! Thanks for watching and sharing :)

@@JudiKlee we ended up roasting our cooking pumpkins for 50 mins. My daughter said we can never use canned pumpkin again. Our pumpkin bread and pumpkin soup were delicious. Thank you again.

@@purobijarro Wonderful! I'm glad you discovered the benefits of cooking your own pumpkin! Why not?? (Your gram knew what she was doing!) Thanks again for sharing. Take care :)

Thank you for the informative video. 👌
Which is the best way to preserve valuable nutrients in the pumpkin when cooking it?
By boiling it in the water? Or by roasting them in the oven?

That's a great question! Overall, steaming is usually the best way to preserve nutrients in any fruit or vegetable that needs to be cooked. I agree that roasting a pumpkin would be far easier to do, and that would be a better choice than boiling it. I would "rank" steaming as the best, baking as second best, and boiling as the least optimal way to cook pumpkin. Thanks for watching and asking! I hope this helps :)

Hi! Thanks for watching and commenting! Yep...sometimes we just don't think of even the simplest things, but that's life, and it's OK. Yes, I enjoy this time of year too and take advantage of having fresh pumpkins around...to eat AND preserve for later. Thanks too for the compliment on the voice :)

Looking for a way to store fresh pumpkin other than canning or cooking. Especially shredded pumpkin for a bread recipe.

Just freeze your shredded pumpkin. That way it will be ready to add to your recipe whenever you make it. If the pumpkin was not blanched first it won't last as long in the freezer as if it were first blanched (and it wouldn't take much effort to blanch shredded pumpkin). Nevertheless, it will keep longer in the freezer than in the refrigerator. Thanks for watching and commenting!

What is the temperature do you roast the pumpkin?

    • @JudiintheKitchen

I usually roast it at 375F. You could also roast it at 400F. The higher the temp, the shorter the cooking time. Thanks for watching :)
