Got my mom an Ove Glove like 15 years ago as a gag gift because she loves cooking and baking - It's still in regular (almost daily) use, and still looks almost brand new after a wash. Worth every penny!

Vegetables aren't the only foreign object to Tyler... For one... the idea of heat resistance vs fire proof... Kevlar has 900F heat resistance, Nomax and Silicone are heat resistant up to 700F, Tyler: "Let's use a 3000+F blow torch to test this Kevlar/Nomex glove with silicone grips!"
Silicone is quite heat resistant. A good soldering iron (which is used at 380°C or more) will usually have a silicone insulated cable, so that the soldering iron will not be able to melt it. And as you noticed, silicone is super soft. So the cables are very flexible and comfortable to use, but easy to cut through.
Although youre a little unscientific ,I have to say you're one of my favorite youtubers man. Watching you mess around in your garage is very calming for some reason.

That propane torch gets up to 3,600 degrees Fahrenheit. The 'ove' glove is rated more for a few licks of flame from cooking over a campfire with flames around 1000-1500 Fahrenheit. I've used them as my oven mitt for over 10 years and they work well. Like you said, you can feel the heat soak in after a few seconds but by then you're done touching the pan and you can take it off.

The Ove Glove in real use is one of the best kitchen things I have ever bought, I don't use any regular pot holders these days except to set hot stuff on sometime. Genius idea and well made, both of my are over 5 years old and going strong.

The ove glove works amazing when you dont blow torch it. I use it on my smoker every single time I use it. A real wood smoker, not one of those electric fake smokers. And I use it in my outdoor pizza oven and indoor oven as well.

@ I'm a mechanic in a glass factory that makes plates and bowls. We have to work on hot equipment all the time and I've gotten to a point where I only wear leather gloves while I'm working (not tough just quick). All that said, water is my worst enemy. You get anything wet, whether it's your gloves or any part of you uniform and it's an instant steam burn as soon as you touch anything.

The Ov-Glove is a great product! It is designed to protect your hands when taking hot things out of the oven. It’s not designed to protect you from a propane torch or to protect you from cuts. It does what it’s supposed to do very well. It’s only real drawback is that hot liquids will go right through it . Be careful when handling hot dishes that contain a lot of liquid. I can’t think of a single recipe that calls for a temperature of over 450 degrees, so we’re good there.
The worst burn I ever had in my life was while wearing an Ove Glove. I was pouring boiling water and it spilled on the glove, and wicked up onto my skin. So if they get wet they are worse than no glove at all.
The gloves were only rated for dry heat though, not for hot liquids... Basically any kind of glove that isn't waterproof is likely going to result the same. If you're that clumsy with pouring boiling water, you can wear some real leather gloves and apply some leather waterproofing spray to it, and it'll make the boiling water feel warm, but it won't burn the skin.

Before you even start I just want to say the Ove Glove is amazing. The only flaw I have encountered is if the glove gets wet that area will let heat through the glove. It's really good for grilling or just grabbing baked potatoes out of the oven. The Slap Chop is really good for small jobs, it does work on all onions you just have to peel the skin off first.

Of course it's going to melt or burn at 3000F. Food grade silicone is good till around 425F, but I imagine they probably got it higher for the glove. 500 is safe, but it's stupid to test 6x the highest heat itd usually experience and expect it to stay intact

I have the Ov-glove and bought it when it first came out waaaaaay back when. Love it! Heat the skillet and lay it in the skillet, it won't melt. If you were to burn down the house, yes, the glove would burn also. A skillet can not be used on a hot plate, it gets waaaaaay to hot and will distroy the hot plate. If you watch the knife commercial, he chops the wood at the base of the knife, then he cuts the tomato at the tip of the knife. BTW Garlic skin is different than onion skin, so you have to peel the onion before chopping.
My parents used to have something really similar to the slap chop. I mean it was the same thing with a different name. Either it or the slapchop was a offbrand but it work amazing. They mainly used it for onions for stuff like soup/chili or nuts as a topping on stuff like ice cream.
As a professional Chef we use silicone baking sheets all time. I think they are good up to 600 degrees. Also most quality spatulas are made of silicone.

Ginsu knives are awesome. I have a few I bought in the '90s and I still use them, and not just in the kitchen. I've even used one for cutting shingles when I ran out of razors.
I have a generic version of the slap chop. I love it! I've had it for years. Goes through the dishwasher no problem. I use it mostly to chop eggs for salads. I love it! Worth the money!

I think the slap chop have a issue with the "root" of the onions. No one eats those.

We love our Ove gloves. They work really well. They aren't torch or knife resistant. Regular oven mitts aren't torch or knife resistant either.

When I was a kid my mom had this gadget called a Whopper Chopper which did the same as the Slap Chop.

I can only use my oveglove so much easier to just grab the pan not ever worrying about getting burnt. (Mine is the og version no silicone (grip))
As a professional Chef we use silicone baking sheets all time. I think they are good up to 600 degrees. Also most quality spatulas are made of silicone.

Ginsu knives are awesome. I have a few I bought in the '90s and I still use them, and not just in the kitchen. I've even used one for cutting shingles when I ran out of razors.

I have a generic version of the slap chop. I love it! I've had it for years. Goes through the dishwasher no problem. I use it mostly to chop eggs for salads. I love it! Worth the money!

9:10 The Ginsu knife had a zip tie on it because it was probably originally meant for a brick and mortar store where they zip tie knives to packaging to 1. Prevent theft and 2. Keep people from taking out knives and hurting themselves or other people.
