- Thousands gathered at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday to pay tribute to Malawi's late Vice President Saulos Chilima, who was killed in a plane crash on June 10.
Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera later announced that the plane had crashed near a hill in the Chikangawa forest. All 10 passengers, including Chilima, were killed on impact, according to the president. Chakwera told the crowd - numbering around 41,000 - that there would be a full investigation, while he was reportedly booed by some in the stadium, according to media reports.
