Cleaning a $5,000 Louis Vuitton Jacket

- This is how a dry cleaner cleans a $5,000 Louis Vuitton wool and leather variety jacket by hand!
First, lots of lint removal through brushes, combs and rollers. Once we can see the actual soil it’s time to get to work.
I used two different dry cleaning solvents to treat these food stains on the wool, luckily they lifted up quite easily as they were likely new stains.
Once I was happy with the wool body of the jacket, I moved onto the leather. There were a few pretty soiled leather areas but with the help of my foaming water based cleaning along with my solvent based degreases they were gone in no time.
Now that the jacket is clean, I conditioned the leather parts to protect the skin and touched up the wool with some more lint rolling.
I hope this video gave you some insight as to how very expensive clothing must be maintained properly.
Happy cleaning!

A $5000 jacket you can’t wash is wild
As a drycleaners myself, the company just wants you to buy tweet then to hell with how you have to clean it
Yeah wild
forget that, who would pay even $500 for this ugly ass jacket
@kiyoponnn ngl, it does look unappealing. They could've done a lot more to make it look better appealing.
Bought a $100 blanket and it can only be drycleaned...but the $40 blanket i bought that is similar but softer can be machine washed but must be air dryed
Who spending 5000 dollars on a shirt u can only wear once?
It's definitely not a shirt.
A superficial poser
Its called high fashion.
people with more cents than sense it seems
I’ll bet you spent $5 on things that are disposable. The people who buy this jacket see $5,000 the same way you see $5.
Filipino Moms see that filthy jacket will soak it in soapy water and brush it. 😂 You will see that jacket hanging outside and sun dry😅😂
😭😭😭
Indian moms tooo
Mexican moms too!
Facts my Mexican mom would have thrown that shit in the washer 😂
Lmaoooo
The crazy thing is many manufacturers will put these stupid labels in their items to avoid liability as they haven’t put their clothing through proper product testing.
For $5000 that better be a self cleaning jacket. Crazy that a jacket made for a few dollars has a popular brand name on it and it sky rockets the price.
quality leather and wool is not a few bucks. that jacket would still be a couple hundred dollars with a smaller brand name but yes, the mark up is wild

the cleaning of the interior would had been fun to watch too! Please upload part 2 with the inside cleaning pleaseeee!
$5000?! “There is a sucker born everyday”😂😂😂
That coat looks like a $5 goodwill item.
Not at all
I would walk right past it in a thrift store... lol
what… goodwill is a scam. they’re a non profit but scam their customers and workers and their ceo is a multimillionaire
A normal letterman jacket costs around $500 sometimes much more to get done. Even if this had no name brand attached to it it would still be worth a good bit.
@@meech2163when made with high end material though
I work in dry cleaning and i have seen Lvs far expensive , i saw 1 which was only made for Japanese clients and had the same label cant be cleaned , it had sick on it front almost covered . We cleaned with hydro carbon solvent and it came out like new . What this gentleman did is to lint roll and applied (perc) solution by hand and spot cleaned it which you can say cleaned the jacket but its not cleaned in reality . Buy hay if the customer is happy the guy did a good job as we say in our line of work 😂
Just for reference (perc) symbol is P or A
And hydro carbon symbon is F
That looks like the jackets they sell at the swapmeet
That's the "point" 🙄
I know, I know.
I thought it looks good but then that sleeve is a turn off reminds me of several pieces on thrift stores that would caught my attention then I see ugly ass material that takes the style potential of the whole thing and it hurts everytime. With this it's the shiny sleeves for me😭
The difference is longevity.
My favorite jackets
Nobody buys these dumb jackets for anything other than the name brand printed on it.
Lesson learned - Do not buy expensive branded clothes!
Actually I do believe the lesson was to be aware of the types of blends and fabrics that make up a garment and make sure you know how they are to be cleaned, or if they can be cleaned, the tag said it couldn't be cleaned so it probably shouldn't have left the rack/store 😅 but I really think you may have been the only one to learn not to buy expensive clothes I think everyone else is probably to going to keep buying the chit 😂 not that they should ofc 😂 but yeah that's pretty crazy 5k for a jacket that 'can't' be cleaned 😮 I wonder how much he charged for this "cleaning" 😅
@@danysanerd2383 Totally agree with you, especially as I can make my own garments. No way I'm paying $5K for a jacket or any garment that cannot be cleaned.
The owner needs a covid test. Their taste has left the chat.

I hope you are paid well for this service. Thank you for sharing
I wanted to see the interior cleaning and I bet many others would too.
Me too! I’m curious how you’d get the inside smelling clean again
Yea, me too.
Especially the armpit area
And? What an autistic comment
The truth. He did not clean it.
Hey, i really love your channel, especially the detergent board. Can you tell me if those compare sweat and odor removal? I would really appreciate that.
If I spend 5000 dollars on clothes I expect to be bullet proof
What about the inside? How did you clean the odor/sweat out of there?
Probably didn't 😂
@@josh6706 It says in the video he did it off camera
@@nulu4668 yes, I know that. I saw the same video you did.

These get sent out to leather fur specialists or done by water based cleaning method. Your method only cleans the outside(exterior) of the fabric, inside and out but the inside jacket is not thoroughly cleaned. There are about 4 Dry cleaning solvents, not sure which solvent you’re using but if it’s (perc), it would need to dry then neutralize by cold air with Freon gas like in a dry cleaning machine’s last cycle(not to mention perc is illegal in many states). Even leather fur specialist cleans everything by water, they have chemicals and steaming/stretching machines to do the finishes. Just make sure it dries fully but I doubt it’s fully sanitized inside and out.
The owner of that jacket lives paycheck to paycheck I guarantee it
With an expensive Jacket like that, his paychecks much be $3 million a month
I've always wanted to know how they drive clean matching band uniforms
this is what dry cleaning is. i finally know
"dry cleaning liquid" is the most insane phrase i've ever heard
What if the owner has body odor? Can dry cleaning also achieve the same effect as normal washing with bleach and detergent?
I love the videos when he cleans stuff !! Don't get me wrong all his videos are useful or helpful but I really like seeing the differences.
Dry Cleaner from Germany here.
What kind of solvent do you use to clean this jacket by hand ?
Just wondering since the authorities would close us up if we used our Solvent outside of the machine.
Btw love your channel keep the good work up man 👍
He specifically said he used the solvent for dry cleaning machines. What kind of police state do you live in?

I've always wondered, how do you depill really delicate fabrics like spring/summer weight merino, alpaca or cashmere wools, viscose, bamboo silk etc? The shop person gave me a "depilling stone" which, to the best of my knowledge, is about the size of a melamine sponge (rectangular, about 12cm × 4cm/ 4.5" × 2") but made of a rough black material similar to pumice (it might even be a type of pumice). It's suuuupee rough and even trying it on a tiny patch seemed to do little and, in fact, made it a little bit worse because that specific sweater is a very delicate, stretchy merino/bamboo blend. What gives?
So how much was the cleaning bill 150.00?
when I worked at a dry cleaner back in the late 90's... we didn't do leather cleaning on site, we sent it out and we'd give a quote a price range and explanation of how it was priced... we charged a flat 10 dollar charge for handling/storage.
"A coat like this will be anywhere from 100-500 bucks. The final price depends on how he has to clean it."
Generally though... yeah.. it was about 150 for a coat like that... so i'd guess it's probably a 200-250 cleaning these days.
It’s a beautiful jacket
Can’t wait to try this out just ordered this and the condition
Yo I’m not on Louis but that shit is fire
Agreed
I wish they showed the name of the jacket so I can see if can order it 😢

Dry cleaning reminds me of my childhood
My mom used to give clothes for dry cleaning to a poor muslim person
Respect is everything everything everything
Ok...and how much does that cleaning cost? 😂
Probably 1k Haha
I bought a jacket for €50. And it was a dry clean only. And when I learned the dry cleaning for that costs €30, I was like ‘whaat..??
Whoever paid that much for the jacket got ripped off. Most luxury goods are a ripoff though.
I love that jacket ! 😍 I want one!
Ik u guys tranna be funny but this is genuinely a really good looking jacket if i had the money I’d 100% buy this. It’s beautiful
What ppl forget about expensive things is the expensive maintinance that goes with it, and I swear they make it that way on purpose just to make sure no one poor-ish owns one for long 😂
lol... doesnt matter how much the maintenance costs are... I'm not dropping $5k on a letterman.
Thats hard.
Without the logo, this will sell $50 in the market 😂
Very informative videos. Would you please include how much you charged or would charge the customer to clean each item? That would give some of us with similar items an idea of what it would cost us to get a similar service. Thanks!
A jacket that can not be cleaned 😵
That is actually super common especially the higher end brands. This is a leather/wool coat so yea...if you machine wash it you will end up regretting it lol.
What a gimmick. They say that so that makes consumers spend more money.
@@s.r6331 kinda? Leather is a material that does NOT like water, it's essentially dead skin so water will strip the oils from the leather making it dry, shrink and often crack, think about your own skin, yknow how you feel weirdly grippy after a good cleaning shower? It's because your natural oils are gone. The problem is we can replace those, leather can't, so you gotta do a LOT of work to bring it back to baseline after it's been exposed to water like for washing. Wool is another that likes to shrink when washed so it's often suggested if it MUST be washed in water use cold and air dry it slowly, or better yet freeze it, cold does wonders to kill odors in fabrics. I'd say honestly this jacket could get normal cleaning done to it, cold water spot cleaning on the wool and traditional leather cleaners on the leather aspects. Usually tags list things as non cleanable basically as a "hey, don't throw this in the washing machine" warning.
I read in another comment that the manufacturers just throw the don't machine wash label on stuff out of cheapness and laziness, they don't want to do the proper testing to see how the textiles would hold up under the various conditions 😅 ofc they wouldn't 😂
Call it what it is…..skin. Leather is not a material. It’s skin. Hence the need to keep it moisturised. Kinda sick when you really think about it.
💯 That’s exactly what I think when I see women with expensive “high-end” bags. It’s all animal skin, and baby animal skin in some cases. 🤮
I would prefer leather and wool over pvc and polyester. But hey if you really think about it all of our clothing is coming for dead living organisms. It’s either made from animals, plants, or plastic which is technically a fossil fuel which are just really old prehistoric animals and plants buried by layers of rocks. It’s all gross if you really break it down. But that’s the circle of life lol
i’m be real thats a sick jacket
When I see the foam , I’m in the zone. Spf150 does the trick.
Amazing! Looks better than new!
Despite the prices the jacket is nice 😍
I love your content, keep up the grind my guy. You should show a comparison at the end that would really add to your videos. Mcuh love💯
appreciate the comment, ill totally do that !
I was really hoping something horrible happened and it was destroyed and with any luck, that caused the owner a bad day or some level of sadness. Dang. Now the jerk that owns that is probably going to smile. Thanks a lot, dude.
Looks great!
That dry cleaner liquid is dope.
This is really interesting everything I know about dry cleaning is from breaking bad
All I can say after watching this video is whatever you charged the customer for this process, was worth it. 😵💫
Do you wear a respirator when working with strong solvents?
I just learned the "it cannot be cleaned sign" Today
funny I put my 20yo leather jacket in the washing machine came out just fine. its currently drying with the leather conditioner on
.Washed sons wool coat the same week. both are alive and doing well. 🤷🏾♀️
I pay extra attention to worn-in grime around collar and wrists. Really get that germy mess out
Cold water hand wash with wool soap and lanolin. It works for us. Then pressed at cleaners
That will make the leather degrade faster over time and slowly ruin the suede parts. It will work but will wear it out faster.
What's the best way to clean a full leather jacket? Better to buy my own stuff and do it or just bring it to a dry cleaner?
I can’t fathom paying that much for a jacket you can’t clean. 😂
Brother I see your hard works in your palm
my drycleaner dissolved all the fabric glue that was part of my jacket. Not only did it come apart, but the spots where the glue dissolved stained.
This is so satisfying
Does the cleaning solvent leave behind any residue? I saw it evaporate but is there anything that could remain behind that might irritate the skin?
Materialism at its finest
When I see the foam I’m in my zone
That jacket is dope
When you use the dry cleaning liquid how does that work does it dissolve dirt and bring it out of the jacket as it evaporates?
Thats a DOPE jacket
What about the interior, especially the neck and armpits area???????? I know you did this “off camera,” but this is something many are curious about 🤷🏼♂️
Bro, that looks like a varsity jacket for my theater troupe man they just put an LV on the back literally my school jacket looks identical to that but it’s in blue and white

I’ve heard that lint rollers leave adhesive on the surface of clothes and make it more likely for lint to stick in the future. What are your thoughts?
Was that a tear at the bottom left of the jacket when you had it laid out? On the front
That's a sick jacket
what happened if that thing smelled of body odor? how do you clean it and remove the unwanted odor? I need answers please.
How much does it cost for this type of cleaning???
We wanna see the interior clean!!
Most expensive garments aren’t machine washable. It isn’t ridiculous, it’s just about the delicate nature of more expensive textiles.
How do you handle the pits. That’s the most important question for me. I was under the impression the pits always have to be washed somehow?
Thisnguy definitely does a lot of pull ups
It looks like no matter how much you lint roller it, it's the type of jacket that stays linty forever.
Absolutely fascinating because I have heard that any garment that pills is not of high quality. But I’m not surprised because I used to work in Southern California and a lot of the Louis Vuitton purses were made in San Dimas by migrant workers. Is there exploding labor like that I don’t have a favorable opinion of the company.
Wow..do you cover your face ? I just used some nail polish remover(to remove print from backpack) for half hour and got a huge allergic reaction. My eyes puffed up and got very itchy. Lasted a week ! 😮

How did you clean the inside armpits? I'm serious and have a need to know. Thank you.
What if the armpits smell and have sweat stains on the inside?? How would you clean that??? Or do you leave it???
🤔 I understand about the outer part of the jacket but what about the inside... under arms, the back of the neck, etc. ???
Do those sticky rollers not make the material more sticky through leftover adhesive residue?
Thats a dope jacket

Are there items you've turned away because they cannot be cleaned or would be too risky to clean?
