I know what you’re going through. When my husband died last year he left me with a lot of debt in my name that I had to pay. I finally got it all paid off earlier this year and I can’t tell you how wonderful it feels to owe no one. Good luck on your journey. 💛

The worst part for me was adding everything up. Just not knowing where I was at, was scary. Once I knew, I could make a plan and envision my debt free future. I gave the power back to myself. I have been debt free for 4 years now, best feeling ever. You got this.

From the title I was expecting the debt level to be so much higher. Everyone’s financial journey is unique though… and while some might wish their debt was this low… it obviously troubles you.
But you have a plan and the right mindset.
Can’t wait to see your progress.

While the realization of seeing the numbers on paper isn’t fun, your total is not terrible. Especially considering this includes your mortgage.
Don’t beat yourself up. As long as you and hubby are a team, you’ve got this!
When I started doing and living on a written monthly budget, I found money I never knew I had! A budget means FREEDOM to me. It means I have control and I tell my money where to go instead of being broke at the end of the month and wondering where it went. Now I’m intentional and wow! What a difference that makes!
I am currently in the process of using the snowball method to pay off the last of my debt. I finished credit cards. Now I just have the last little bit of my student loan and my car to go!
    Let’s go get debt free!!

You can do it, we paid off over 100k, and toward the end of it I quit my job to be a stay at home wife, so the last part was single income. It can be done. Personally I would add up everything that is not the mortgage and focus on that number first, it will seem much less daunting.

I just want to say that you are so smart, and so courageous to not only bring this out in the open but to address it and not ignore it. There are more people than you can even imagine that are in the same situation or even worse. So I want to thank you for your bravery, and helping others to see what they can do to improve their financial situation. I was wondering do you have any automobile payments or do you own your cars and do you have monthly expenses like a cell phone or utilities? Because wouldn’t those have to be included so that you have an idea of how all of your money is spent on expenses? Granted, utilities are not a debt, but they definitely come out of your pocket in terms of paying them, which would give us a better idea of what monies you have that are free to be used to pay your debt down. I am inspired by you and I thank you so much for doing this because there are those of us that need to have this same discussion with our families. 💕💕💕💕💕

When I see these videos my heart breaks for the person facing their debt. Overwhelming does not begin to describe the emotion. Is it possible to remortgage, pay off the cards in full and NEVER use those cards again? When I say remortgage I mean use some equity JUST ENOUGH TO PAY OFF THE CARDS. we did this decades ago and it cured us from ever having consumer debt again. Our mortgage payment is 412.10 a month. And no debt otherwise.

Just keep moving forward, that is all you can do.. but I do feel you that 2 years ago we were debt-free, we thought we were prepared enough for our international move with about 20K in savings but it wasn't enough so now we have about 16K that we are working towards getting there again. and when we move sadly we will have to buy at least one car

Ok, so, that's a lot, but there's a bright spot: That mortgage balance. Honestly, that's a gift. I would spend two years hard core on the other debts, then spend the next three years or so on that mortgage. I don't see why you can't be fully debt free, including the mortgage, in five years or so. Also, you're putting a significant amount above the minimum payments on those cards. I know you're stressed, but this is a good plan and if you stick to it, you should be fine.

Have you thought about a Debt Consolidation loan through a Credit Union? Also maybe calling your creditors to see if you can lower your interest rates a bit? I feel like there is a way to get your payments down each month. Good luck!

What was bought with the credit cards? Sometimes it's unnecessary junk and sometimes it's medical or necessary stuff.

  • @papabear2515
    @papabear2515 11 месяцев назад

I agree with you 100% about the ridiculous medical costs! It’s inhumane! By you and your spouse taking the responsibility to have health insurance, you should not have that amount of out of pocket! The next time you get a major bill from a medical entity … call and try to negotiate a lower amount due. Plead your case … you are double covered, etc. Most medical entities will work with you to lower the total they are owed.
One suggestion - I personally wouldn’t pay any more on the mortgage than the minimum. Reason being - I’m assuming your home loan interest is significantly lower than your credit card interests. So, take that extra money you’re putting toward mortgage and put it on your credit cards - mathematically it makes sense to do so - your money goes farther that way and you’re out of credit card sooner. Then, when all credit cards are paid off. - and you WILL do that - then you can double up or triple up on your mortgage payments if you want to.
Take care. You are absolutely on track …. All the best on your journey - that will be successful! 👍

If you are able to make use of balance transfer promotions, sometimes it is worth paying a 3% transfer fee in exchange to be able to pay off the balance without interest. Could save a lot of money, especially if one is paying high interest. And, it can be a lot cheaper than taking out a low interest loan. You'll get there!

Hi there! A++ on accountability! I am in Canada so I don’t know if this is an option for you but, can you consolidate your credit card debt through your mortgage holder through a line of credit? One payment at much lower interest rates. Just a suggestion. Thanks for this! 👍

If you have a good credit score and are disciplined, I would open an account at a credit union, get a home equity line of credit (no closing costs) and pay that $30k in cc debt off. Even at the prevailing 8% rate, it's still way less then the current blended rate you're paying. Then just concentrate your efforts on paying it off. I know it's a variable rate, but it will take years to get up to the rates you are paying now. By then your balance will be either significantly lower or gone. Don't refinance your mortgage. That 4% is gold.

The interest rates are super high. Since the mortgage is low, I'd borrow against the house and pay extra every month or find a single care or two and go fo a lower interest rate. The finance industry is a total rip off.
