  • This video is a REPEAT of an earlier version of the same video without the loud music when I'm talking. It's about how to Build an 12.6v 18650 lithium Battery pack for an electric bike or solar generator or a small Tesla Power Wall. In this video I will be using authentic Samsung 25r 18650 lithium batteries. I am building a 3s 8p 20ah 12.6v battery pack.

    I’m doing a 3s2p 12.6v battery pack with Molicel P-28A cells and each cell is 35A and 2800mah each cell . What BMS with balance should I use , a 40A , 60A or 80A BMS with balance ?
    So the 3s2p i will build will be 35A both rows 3 cell each in series and when combined in parallel it will have a total of 70A so it will peak at 140A at a max discharge rate the 3s2p battery pack , so at least i will need a 80A bms or a 100A Bms ?

    QUESTION: if you want high amperage AND capacity in a “performance” ev how difficult would it be to have a secondary battery pack that has a high cdr compared to a larger high capacity pack that you use for every day driving? Like if you put your foot down or went up a hill the higher amperage battery pack takes over when there is a higher current demand?
    Looking into using a model s drive unit in a e30 bmw. Just a newbie doing internet research and throwing ideas around. In theory would like to use a large pack of Panasonic NCR18650BD cells for capacity and a smaller “turbocharger” pack of something like Sony VTC4 cells for current.
    Any information or feedback or more info on anything like this or diy batteries or tips and tricks or whatever would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time for anyone reading this!

    Hey, super great video, I'm planning to build a 3S7P almost like yours here, I'm wondering which BMS is better, It'll power a Chicago power systems inverter (92708) which is rated 12V 400 watts. I don't quite understand yet if the battery capacity determines the BMS's amp rating or if it is determined by the load.

    • @WesThatTechGuy
      @WesThatTechGuy  3 года назад

      Julián Mauricio Ramírez Obando Thanks for watching! Your inverter is capable of producing about 34 A. And your battery bank average will depend on what type of battery you buy or use. 400 W divided by 12 V equals 33.3 A. The BMS is to protect the battery pack. I would suggest a 50 amp continuous balance BMS. We currently have them in stock at SolarGeni.com

Then I made a 3s 1p and connected another led 12V 5w It worked but not too long. It droped the brightness. For my 4s, if I would have used a bms would have I avoid burning the bulb?

    • @WesThatTechGuy
      @WesThatTechGuy  5 лет назад +1

      thanks kuna! the light burnt out not because of no bms but in 4s it was running at 16.8v and your light is a 12v light so the over voltage most likely made it burn out. at 3s it's 12.6v charged so will be good for a bit but will get dim as the battery drains. to run a 12v light on a 4s battery pack you will need a DC buck converter or a way to reduce the voltage from 16.8v to 12v continuous.

      @WesThatTechGuy  4 года назад +1

      ian whiteley Generally if the bms gets hot and it’s new it’s because you’ve wired the positive leads wrong and then plug it in. You’ve got to be sure to get all the proper positive leads to each group of cells. test the pigtail with a volt meter at each point you should double your voltage if your voltage does not double all the way up to your required voltage then you connected wrong. If that is all correct and still getting hot you probably have a bms issue. Is it hot when you just plug it in or does it get hot after you ran a load through it?

      this can be infinite amount of batteries in P (parallel). you just cant charge more the 40a or discharge more than 40a.

    I thought 3s packs were near useless for backup power... too low for 13.8 float, too high for inverter use... the bms will keep the pack safe I guess.

    • @WesThatTechGuy
      @WesThatTechGuy  5 лет назад +3

      This is just one of many ways to build a battery pack in series with a BMS. You can do 4s-16s no problem and then some. Just repeat the steps from 3s to infinity etc. Also inverters are changing everyday so these things can be achieved easier now. That said in my opinion 4s is still the way to go for a 12v system rather than 3s.

    • @stefanogiannini4508
      @stefanogiannini4508 4 года назад

      It's not completely true, the 13.8V drop immediatly at 12,60V or less even with small loads, so the 12,6V of 3S battery are good.
      The problem is that the commons inverters have a range from 9,5V (stop working)/10,50V(acustic signal starts) - 14.8V, so 3S is a little bit less than 14,8, but 4s are a lot more than 14,8.
      The best thing to save money is a 3S battery pack, if you disable acustic signal you can use about 80-90% of battery.
      The best thing for life cycles of batteries is 4S, but you need to buy more because you can charge a lot less than 100%, but discharge completely
