Favor. leave this comment pinned. You must do the following steps: 1-IF you have replaced the laser with another model, you must reprogram the eeprom in charge of the information that contains data from your laser. for that you must use Lenschanger and follow the steps. look for some video on YT. 2-IF you have already done this and your output is still not optimal. You must calibrate the gears. The 3000X models have a single gear at the top and the 5000X models have 2 gears. This is more complex to calibrate. since each gear raises or lowers each section of the rails that support and move the laser. and finally. if your laser makes a lot of noise or does not start spinning immediately. You must replace the ICs that control the voltage. for 3000X consoles it is a BA5815FM and for 5000X consoles it is LA6508. After replacing, check again how your laser works. With this you should read immediately. Sorry for my bad english 😅
Thank you for the comment, I have pinned it. I do mention Lenschanger at the end of the video but I think people who are unfamiliar with it will find your comment really helpful.
I've been researching this and apparently if you change versions of laser there is also some software that you need to use to go into the firmware and change the settings so it matches the laser version and it should take care of this issue.
@@fmascia by IC I mean the laser control chip on the motherboard but before thinking about that the other thing would be to try adjusting the white gear that raises or lowers the laser.
Did you swap a 400c for a new for 400c or was it 400b you took out. You could have the same issue as me here and need to get a 400b. It could be worth checking that the ribbon cable has not got damaged. I had had a similar issue to you before which I thought was a dying laser but turned out to be some minor damage to the ribbon cable going to the laser.
So my 400c does the same thing. It takes a long time to initially start the game but plays ps2 games fine. What it doesnt do is read ps1 games at all. I would like to resolve both issues but im at a loss.
Is this a new laser you have installed or the existing laser in the console. If its a new laser, and you have replaced a 400b with a 400c Lenschanger with FreeMcBoot may be the only way to fix it. If its the original laser you may need to replace it or you could try adjusting the laser potentiometers first.
@@EasyConsoleFixes I installed the 400c and ran lenschanger and selected my new laser but it won't read PS1 games still. I'm fine with the 400c taking a long time to start but losing backwards compatibility sucks.
@@wallengene Can you check the 400c in another console to make sure its fully working. The console in this video still played PS1 games even without using Lenschanger they were just slow to start like PS2 games.
@@EasyConsoleFixes oh ok. Well I'll keep playing around with it. I got the laser off Amazon and had to de solder the static blob thingy so I assumed it was new
decided to take my PS2 apart today because mine did the same thing. Still has the original lazer in it and the optics appear to be fine, I think it something with the PS2 that for some reason is making it take a long time to activate it. I think there is something in its firmware that tells it which lazer mode to use between the pre DVD disc and the DVDs, and for some reason what ever triggers it take a long time for the DVD to kick in or maybe its some kind of power related issue where its working up a certain charge on a capacitor or something.
That's interesting, I haven't seen this in a console with the original laser. I suppose only swapping the laser for a replacement would confirm whether it was the console or the laser.
@@EasyConsoleFixes It's weird to watch it, if I put in a CD format disc (ps1, blue ps2 the disc spins and you can see the laser come on immediately. With DVD Roms, its spins but the laser doesn't turn, disc stops for a couple minutes, and then you can see the red laser just turn on and the disc will spin again and work fine from there on. I assume it must be some kind of potentiometer issue where maybe the voltage getting sent to the laser for DVD's is off, and its taking a while for it to get where it needs to be to start reading.
@@nategreatgames78 Normally with a potentiometer issue the discs wont just start reading so if you do adjust the DVD pot I would be interested to hear if you have any luck fixing the issue.
Had the same exact issue. Had a SCPH-30001 and replaced the laser with a 400c. The issue would be it would play silver discs right away, but it would take up to 40 seconds for the purple back disc to play or sometimes it wouldnt load at all. I thought the laser was bad, had them send me a replacement, still same issue. I was about to give up and did a quick search and noticed someone saying the 3000 series uses a 400b. Thats when I realized I was using a 400c, ordered the 400b and walla. Works like a charm.
A hard drive is where I think a lot of these consoles will end up in the future but it's nice to keep the original hardware and games running as long as possible.
i have a same problem as well. i did not replace with the new laser but i bought a second hand one and it start ot take so long to load it could be a china knock off, you should buy a oringal replace laser for ps2 rider than a knock off version of this. i prefer a replacement ps2 dvd drive cuz laser are dangers

Hi, yes Lenschanger is the software to change the laser versions. A memory card with Free Mcboot is probably the easiest way to use Lenschanger.
I have the original laser on but the same issue (on most of games, because some of them are read instantly). Any idea on what can it be?
Strange that some games are read instantly. I wonder could it be an issue with IC's like the poster mentioned in the pinned comment.
@@EasyConsoleFixes Thanks for the answer. Can i ask what do you mean by IC?

I thought it would be fixed by just swapping laser's, but the 400c only read's music cd's and ps1 games.

I have notice that adjusting laser hight you can make it read better some disc.
I'm seeing lots of recent comments on this old video. Do I smell a resurrection of the PS2?
It is definitely coming back with a bang. I think there are a lot of us just upset with modern gaming

In theory the 400c should work fine instead of the 400b but obviously it doesn't always work right.
I heard that with lens changer you can actually use that program and select which laser you installed
Why not use the Hard drive? A fat model like yours would greatly benefit that feature.
