The bird’s leg was caught in a piece of rope that was wrapped around a branch, about 70 feet off the ground, John Lauritsen reports (2:24). WCCO 4 News At 10 - July 1, 2016
Jason Galvin. What an absolute hero, and all of you who stayed with it. A really good soul. I am in the UK, far away, but we are animal lovers and that was wonderful. I hope Freedom is on the wind again . Bless all of you. Our best.
I have a hard time believing that so many people knew about this eagle and did nothing. It is nice to see a real man step up to the plate and save this beautiful bird.
america and freedom? ok😂😂 americans arent as free as people in most other countries at all, they just dont know or dont wanna know that. They can have guns OK thats the only point americas laws are less strict then in the majority of countries and see... now they are killing other americans with them. so fuck america😂
This is a wonderful story, but the police & wildlife officers knew about this for two days and couldn't do anything? Out of their jurisdiction? I'm calling BULLSHIT on that. Just looking at the tree, an arborist or tree surgeon could have had that branch down in a few hours & controlled the descent of the branch to make sure it didn't injure the eagle. And, what if the young man had hit the eagle with one of his shots? Bad for the eagle, but bad for the veteran too. And don't think the authorities wouldn't have turned on him if it hadn't ended well.
You're correct, it is BS. There's not a single square inch of this nation that's not under some or several law enforcement's jurisdiction. Also, the people who handle birds of prey require a federal license and have jurisdiction everywhere in the US. Our own national symbol left for two days to suffer in a tree on 4th of July Weekend...by our own government!?!? Now, everyone knows about it.
Not only this but the shockwave alone from the shell could have damaged the eagles internal organs if the shell was close enough. Not to mention shrapnel from the tree.
C'mon, Bro...ha-ha...I was gonna make that same comment but didn't. He means, at least I believe he means, the 'impact' of the 'bullet' upon the nearby branch. And, .22LR bullets do splash, and, ricochet, upon impact being soft lead and traveling at such a low speed.
Thank you soldier for helping this majestic bird. Welcome home to you too. Only a military man would have the patience to fire off 150 shots and not give up. Including, being dead on. May you have a long and peaceful life.
Hats of to this vet....and thank you for your service. wow some of you can't even say a good thing about this story or thank this vet for his service and you have the nerve to judge this man?? Very selfish damn how dare you

This video is so american like holy shit. It has all the american qualities. Eagle of Freedom. The Flag. An army veteran. And classic American solution to any problem: GUNS!
For 55 years I have proudly shared my Birthday with the USA, So in this case, I will say Thank you, Jason for the single most spectacular Birthday present of my life.
God bless you sweet War Vet! Thanks for doing the right thing in rescuing this majestic bird! May you be rewarded 10 fold by the Heavenly Father! Such a lovely name! Anyone know how Freedoms doing!?
Jason ,Sir first I Want to Thank you for serving our country and help to protect the people where you was stationed at !!!!!I also want to thank you for saving the eagle Freedom !!! I salute you and again thank you !May the Lord Jesus Christ Bless you and you're family !😘😘😘😘😘
July 5, 2016 Soldier...Thank you for your efforts ! It is embarrassing, however, that all of the Departments contacted, indicated that they were unable to assist. Our Nations' National Symbol, and no one was able to take the effort to save the Eagle .
amazing how everyone could of done a better job , lets just say thanks he got the bird down unharmed, not to mention served for our country !! Thank you.
Jason babe GOD BLESS YOU, u are a true hero. i just love it when I hear and see something like this. i CRYED, I seriously CRYED. such a good thing that you did
It's quite cold, I can tell you that! :) And, that's most of the year! Can get -40F and have a LOT of snow. The Canadians are nice folks - hardy, hard working, and fun to be around. Where I live, here in Florida, we have quite a few Canadians spend the Winter Season with us. French and English. Yes, "Canada is quite great ain't it." So true.
Not a fire ladder truck in the vicinity...a tree trimming company...2 days they knew about this,,,,companies would be falling over each other to help..
+Jordan Laney oh my bad I was mistaken, I was thinking of something else, but still that's like trying to get a cop from Kentucky to arrest a person in Ohio
DNR said it was out of their jurisdiction, but if your were hunting there or fishing illegally I'll bet it would quickly become their jurisdiction. Some people are just plain pitiful.
this is such a great story! omg i dont know why i am crying...i think these people just doing what they had to do and not just leaving....omg so wonderful. bawling over here. good tears not sad ones! ***this man is so wonderful! this lucky lady has got herself a keeper! xoxoxo mr sharp shooter!
That bird was there for two days hanging by one leg? Guaranteed permanent damage. This is really sad. People get all upset if a cat is in a tree for a few hours, but a beautiful bird left for two days and nights, no food or water 'not our jurisdiction'. How's about caring for an amazing animal? That is just broken. How did the rope get around the leg in the first place?
The authorities knew about it hanging there for 2 DAYS !!!!????? Unacceptable, to let an animal starve to death by being tortured by hanging upside down.
A .50cal would have cut through the rope with one shot, granted the wind rush would have likely blew the feathers off the bird, but feathers grow back right?
Jason Galvin. What an absolute hero, and all of you who stayed with it. A really good soul. I am in the UK, far away, but we are animal lovers and that was wonderful. I hope Freedom is on the wind again . Bless all of you. Our best.
You can't go more American than this: driving a F150, being a veteran, and saving a life using a gun.
I have a hard time believing that so many people knew about this eagle and did nothing. It is nice to see a real man step up to the plate and save this beautiful bird.
I have a tear forming from all the freedom displayed. Its beautiful.
This is the most American thing I've ever heard of
Guns, eagles, freedom, veteran. What more do you need? The only wierd thing is that the Eagle got free health care.
Wait...... a Army Vet saving an Eagle named Freedom using a gun?
Ohhhh SNNNAAAPPP
The Eagle was named after the situation.
So the eagle's parents didn't name it? I think we need to see the birth certificate to be sure.
'MERICA
Typical authorities to afraid to do what is right. It takes a regular citizen to courageously step up to the bat and take the shot.
Kudos to the veteran. The "conservation" officers should be fired. It constitutes animal cruelty to leave a bird in that situation. Shame on them.
This Story screams AMERICA, Guns, Eagles and Freedom.
d kell you are a funny one.
america and freedom? ok😂😂 americans arent as free as people in most other countries at all, they just dont know or dont wanna know that. They can have guns OK thats the only point americas laws are less strict then in the majority of countries and see... now they are killing other americans with them. so fuck america😂
but no triple chess burgers
+Timi Hendrix tf did you just write
because in america theres no problem that can't be solved with guns
this is the single most American thing I've ever seen

Shockwave from a .22 shell ?? O.K.
+dobrodave123 For humans it would mean nothing. For birds, having much more frail bodies (i.e air sacs, bones, etc) it can be a lot more devastating.

That's some fine shooting. Wind will push a .22 lr all over the place
Hats of to this vet....and thank you for your service. wow some of you can't even say a good thing about this story or thank this vet for his service and you have the nerve to judge this man?? Very selfish damn how dare you
Well done. Jason, thank you for your service to our Country.
Leave it to an ARMY veteran. Thanks for this story. Hooah!
I think the "hooah" thing is Marines, and isn't more like a "booyah"? Heh sorry, I'm not up on these things
Got an email saying someone replied, but the reply link leads here but doesn't show their reply! Anyway, thanks, was good to know!
I don't know, the boos and hoos were all after my time in the army,
Hoo-ah is also for Army-we never say"Booyah"

Yeah.. Thats america

+Dev n america is the country with the most people killed by friendly fire :)
+be_ nik That's because we go to war more than any other country.
+Justin Scruggs mhhh sure... Not because ur fucked up weapon rights
To all that serve, ever have, ever will.
A profound thank you.
Last night my family and I slept in peace.
God bless Y'all.

Amazing story glad the eagle was rescued. Thank you for your courage to save this eagle's life.

THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR SERVICES ... This restores my Faith in Humanity ...And as a bird lover of all, THANK YOU Happy 4th of July to all
A amazing rescue and done with a .22 , very clever to hit the branch of the tree so not to hurt the Eagle.
Well done saving the bird. Not many people would of tried to do what you done.
God bless you sir
July 5, 2016
Soldier...Thank you for your efforts !
It is embarrassing, however, that all of the Departments contacted, indicated that they were unable to assist.
Our Nations' National Symbol, and no one was able to take the effort to save the Eagle .
Thanks to the Army Veteran.
vet + 150 = sharpshooting skills KappaRoss
bitch pls, im a sniper :D
This man is a fucking army veteran and you call yourself a sniper through video games?
He was shooting a .22LR. Those aren't going to make a huge knick in the limb.
iLuvHardStyle You're not funny.
for the bird was a "life and death" play and for the dude was "only-just" an another $hooting play!
amazing how everyone could of done a better job , lets just say thanks he got the bird down unharmed, not to mention served for our country !! Thank you.

+chocolate man Must you be so rude?
Thank you soldier. As I always say Real Men Are Kind To Animals.!!
do people ever get sick of hearing " its out of my duristiction " . thats a cop out when they cant be bothered. full marks to the Vet .
They should take a drone up to see if there are any chicks in the nest.
Thank you sir for setting the eagle free and thank you for your service.
Wow, what a beautiful story. You are an earth angel, for sure!!
incredible. salute to army veteran. thank you again.
This is the most American thing I've seen.
Solved a problem with a gun.
Saved an EAGLE
Jason babe GOD BLESS YOU, u are a true hero. i just love it when I hear and see something like this. i CRYED, I seriously CRYED. such a good thing that you did
Oh how I love being Canadian
Go away. And I lived in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
exactly, same
It's quite cold, I can tell you that! :) And, that's most of the year! Can get -40F and have a LOT of snow.

Yes, "Canada is quite great ain't it." So true.
+Michael Donavon where I live in Canada, it has -15C winters, and 40C summers. I think 40C is like 90F or something.
Now, that's hot for Canada. When I lived in Alberta, 78 or 80F was fairly warm for us. Great Province, that Alberta. :)
Your an American Hero in my book, God Bless you and yours!
HOW NICE! A TRUE AMERICAN! GOOD BLESS U!
Thanks to the vet, America all the way!
Not a fire ladder truck in the vicinity...a tree trimming company...2 days they knew about this,,,,companies would be falling over each other to help..
Try listening better, they said it was out of their jurisdiction, that's like asking a plumber to fix your car
+austin bevis do you know what jurisdiction means? it means it was out of their "workable area"
just sounds like they were lazy to me
+Jordan Laney oh my bad I was mistaken, I was thinking of something else, but still that's like trying to get a cop from Kentucky to arrest a person in Ohio
austin bevis
Are you replying to me????
Congratulations for doing this and THANKS!!!!!!
Kind of rich how a lot of anonymous internet commandos want to badmouth this man and the country based on a good story.
DNR said it was out of their jurisdiction, but if your were hunting there or fishing illegally I'll bet it would quickly become their jurisdiction. Some people are just plain pitiful.
Jason you rock!! 🇺🇸 may your life forever be blessed....
Bless all those who chose to help this dear sweet precious Innocent...! x /|\
Guns, eagles, chopping trees and the pursuit of freedom. It would have been perfect if it took exactly 50 shots.
4th of July - GMC - Army Veteran - Sun glasses - Guns - Bald Eagle - Freedom.
This is the most american thing I have ever seen.
This right here, this is something beautiful
*Sitting in my log cabin filled with hockey merchandise, eating poutine and drinking coffee*
Wow that's so American!!!
In middle earth, Eagle saves Man, Half-man, And Great Man.
These responses made my day. I was laughing out loud on some of these.
Veteran + Gun + 4th of July + Eagle + Freedom
MURICA FUCK YEAH
So much symbolism is one situation
this is such a great story! omg i dont know why i am crying...i think these people just doing what they had to do and not just leaving....omg so wonderful. bawling over here. good tears not sad ones! ***this man is so wonderful! this lucky lady has got herself a keeper! xoxoxo mr sharp shooter!
Fucking amazing story This Eagle get to live another day!!Thank U for Your Service!

Good job soldier!....May the souls of the patriots smile upon you!
This makes me happy.
For two and a half days they do Nothing ???
how perfectly poetic
An hour and a half to shoot down that branch? This is why we need automatic weapons people. A minigun could have had that branch down in 2.3 seconds.
He had to saw through the branch with a weak .22 bullet...
I guess you could say that eagle got...
*FREEDOMED*
THANK YOU
An American Eagle saved by an American shooting with an American Ruger 10/22 rifle! God Bless America!
Thank you.. !!
God Bless you Jason
150 shots hmm quite a firm number, and not one hitting the bird? legit lvl999
Nice job! Thank you
That is SUCH a cool story.
thank you sir
That's a good man right there.
The authorities knew about it hanging there for 2 DAYS !!!!????? Unacceptable, to let an animal starve to death by being tortured by hanging upside down.
Gun, Eagle and Freedom!
An eagle stuck in a tree? What next, a shark trapped in the ocean?
My beautiful America
this story is so beautiful and right. With the exception of the lazy officials who hide behind "jurisdiction".
Damn, if that's not the coolest most awesome story of this year then I don't know. Murica!
Kudos for helping it, for sure. Have to wonder If he would have that for other animals that didn't have symbolic value.
Outstanding brother.
Ohs nos, someone with a firearm saving a life? God bless America!
A .50cal would have cut through the rope with one shot, granted the wind rush would have likely blew the feathers off the bird, but feathers grow back right?
what a man!
This is the most Murican news story I've ever seen.
....And then 150 children died from stray bullets in the neighboring town. I bet they didn't report that.
