The Village People sang the song "In the navy" and we want you as a new recruit has now come true.

They've been lowering the standards for many years. Those reasons are true, but also I think/hope young people are realizing that our government is majorly corrupt and we don't go to war "for our freedom".

It’s the amount of homeless vets in the streets for me. They treat their soldiers like trash when they’re done with them, unless they’re higher ups I guess?

No, they literally do not want to be separated from their social media. Additionally, the XBox was allowed to not have an internet connection because of the military. Deployed troops couldn't relax with a video game or Facebook.

Those entering the navy without a high school diploma/GED will be limited to cook, bosun mate and coxswain. Bosun mates spend a lot of time painting ships, doing janitor work and other menial labor. A coxswain is a small boat operator. So, these three jobs don't require a lot of mental horsepower. And, for decades, the military has relied on one term enlistees, basically getting the one termers to do the grunt work while others go to school on government time. An example is electricians. Since the electrician course takes more than a year (and the ability to do higher math), you don't qualify for the course, unless:
    1) Your ASVAB score is high enough, and
    2) You have signed for a four year enlistment.
The media doesn't report important information like this.

To be fair, the Navy has always just given waivers to those people in the past. Now they're just reducing costs for printing and filing those waivers.

Im 58 years old, retired Air Force and feel the last generation of parents failed the eligible recruits by lowering standards and by accepting mediocrity. It poisoned this generation. Why would they give up their "entitled" status to conformity even with the lowering of standards and maximum age changes to increase recruitment? I grew up in a time when we learned to tie shoes before kindergarten rather than resorting to velcro. We knew how to read a tape measure and tell time on an analog clock. We signed paychecks in cursive. We knew what spackling was by 8. We had pick up games and didn't rely on parents to drive us to practice...we ran there. Not everyone received a trophy and we kept score! We knew how to give change back when someone gave us a few cents over. We played outside and drank from hoses. We actually developed social skills through personal interaction rather than hiding behind social media walls. We earned enough money to buy a beater car and were proud to have it. We weren't handed a new car at graduation. We knew what patriotism was at an early age and many of us joined for that reason alone. There is a reason why only 1% serve because they are made of the character to be combatants. Let's stop dropping the bar and get back to grass roots military! We have only ourselves to blame for this predictable outcome!

Will a GED in high school diploma don't mean you know anything just like a college diploma don't mean you know anything don't mean you can think don't mean you know the subject she supposed to learn to don't mean to you to play the system you can play the teachers get what they wanted to do to make him happy squat about anything I know more about their subjects than they do that and I only went to a few night courses I'm retired out of the combined military service of 28 years some of the best men I have underneath me as a squad leader didn't even have a high school degree some of the worst was college educated kids

I agree. Some people need to just go to work and not go to school. Doesn't mean they aren't smart or capable. Being book smart is not an indication of intelligence.

  • @kerrihiggins2106

The issue with the low numbers started back when Biden took office. There was a large amount of decrease in recruits back then and it's only gotten worse since. To be honest, my husband is a drill instructor for the Navy, I don't see an issue with someone who doesn't have a high school diploma enlisting and joining our military. Quite frankly, they've already lowered the school standards for people to pass and receive those diplomas and kids are still coming out dumb as a box of rocks, so the diploma really isn't a sign of intelligence anyways. What I would have an issues with and would really be a huge problem, is changing the standards within in the military to pass people and get them out in the fleet. As in the ASVAB and other tests the recruits have to take all throughout basic training. If those were to be lowered, that would be terrible! This seems beneficial to give those who don't have a diploma, but have the intelligence and what it takes to serve and succeed in our armed forces, a way to better their lives and build skills and possibly expand on their education.

Our armed forces are literally where the Power of the US comes from. Thats basically the main reason we are a superpower. We cant let our military become weak, bc thats when we become vulnerable to other countries who see a weakness in us, and see a chance to strike

We need to fix the problem not lower standards. Give people a reason to fight and they will, the recruiting crisis is because the fact that nobody wants to fight for the bastards in Washington. There are plenty of able bodied men, precious few want to join and serve this regieme
