As an artist myself i always spare a thought for the artists who receive such harsh criticism on this comment thread (as well as the judges). I wonder if people could deliver it to the artists face or are they just brave behind their keyboards? I think its not always about the aesthetics of an artwork, i rather admire someone who can create a distinctive style- quite genius on a plant with 8 billion people on it. Such a recognisable style. People be a little kinder. You dont always have to share your hate. There are many subjective facets to art.. rather just try learn and appreciate what others see.
I LOVE this show, the artists, judges, the format, that an audience often watches, getting to see their self portraits, learning a little about each person... and learning and watching from portrait artists. Excellent and inspiring. I'm an aspiring artist... from USA, Texas. Thank you for sharing this show. Also, love the humor.
In my opinion, the best portrait was the one who painted the writer with the swipes of the brush through her hair. She wasn’t chosen in the final three.
Purely In my opinion, but I don’t think the judges should bother them AT ALL in the final hour of the competition. They need to be in the right headspace and their time is precious. Why can’t they take 5 minute breaks each hour (that does NOT count toward their 4 hours. If they have 30 minutes left, WHY are the judges stopping their progress?
I’m not agree with the judges, the best one was the guy who painted the blue background with the handsome sitter.. I personally didn’t liked two of the 3 picks, the other guy who painted the brown background of the comedian was better than the winner and the other lady that needed two weeks to finish that pale portrait.. the winner should of be either the blue background that was in the top tree and this other guy that painted the brown background, I did NOT liked the winners paint at all.

I’m an artist born in Ukraine, having lived in CO, I have recently moved to OK and I agree and disagree with the original statement and the response. I’m following the show for years now, and at first it seemed like the judges would never pick up the best landscapes and portraits just to piss me off 😂 But I’m changing and working on my style and going through creative challenges. This year I think I got onto their secret how they choose winners. It’s not the cutest/most beautiful representation, it’s how the artist deals with the likeness and does it by maintaining obvious painterliness and original approach to the whole process. Those who excel in academic painting without a strong personal touch never go through. And I know why. The world is full of dull perfect academic paintings. The judges are looking for something new and interesting, and they will sacrifice the academic perfection in favor of new flavor ✌️😉

For me this painting is the best of the group: 37:14. WONDERFUL STYLE, AWESOME COLOURS, GREAT PORTRAIT!
Alexandra is the big surprise of the day! 🌹👌
Thanks so much for posting these videos
I liked the portrait of Henning from Alexandra more - a wonderful expression. And a surprise in comparison to her submission.
Henning has THE most interesting head to paint🎨😎👌
Thank you ..really love these shows
Si glad this is new for me 😀

I agree!
She definitely should have been chosen for the final three!
Ty 😊
The show has explained that they are picking the artist, not the portrait: The show is named Portrait Artist of the Year, not Portrait of the Year.
Salamat po
Jody was ROBBED!!
When, oh, when will we have new judges? I'm so OVER these three.
I can't help it. I don't like the winner at all.
I don't agree with the judges.
Jamie should have won.

Taste is subjective. I really did not like the portrait of the handsome sitter with the blue background that you liked.
