1. Thank you for breaking this down and taking your time and energy to cover this 2. Just wanna add that Columbus Day was made a federal holiday to appease Italian Americans. 3. The state of Vermont replaced Columbus Day with indigenous people’s day and has worked with the Abenaki tribe ( as that’s the tribe that’s local here) on how they would like Vermonters to recognize the day: they want kids in school learning about indigenous peoples and their history. Shameful that no one on this team could see an issue with the logo when I immediately went OH NO as soon as it was shown. And I’m as white as printer paper.
I’m so glad that more states are changing Columbus Day to Indigenous People’s Day! We can’t change the past but we can educate and move forward with the hopes that we never repeat it.
I get what they were going for with the studio name, what I don’t get is the need for it to be an indigenous person. Their games aren’t even related to indigenous people.
daaaaaang i wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, up until i say that email about correcting their behavior LOL LIKE WHAT lol is he oblivious????
Thank you for explaining this. I hadn't ever seen their logo and am quite aghast about it for the Indigenous community. They seem to have changed it but hopefully they learn and grow. I'm sorry you and so many others had to go through something like this yet again. Sending so much love.
One of my BIGGEST anger moments, when my adrenaline *really* started pumping, was David's claim that the community needed to change, not the logo. It was boosted as I checked what your family on Twitter (I'm not calling it X, I will NEVER call it X) was saying and what they were being told, where David claimed that you all were "self appropriating" the image. I'm also white, and to my knowledge I have NO indigenous blood, but I studied the Sioux tribes when I was in school in North Dakota and have learned amazing things about the Chumash tribes near where I live, and I don't need to be indigenous to realize this is horrific and be offended because *I EXIST IN A PLACE WITH OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE REPRESENTED.*
I was very level headed and expecting a civil conversation up until the same point. I can’t begin to describe the way my heart dropped and my blood began to boil. Thank you for always standing up for what’s right, Cass. I love you!
Thank you for putting this together with all the information. I have spread the word to my communities, did a review, and hopefully the person that gifted one of their games to me can get a refund.
@@ShanaLeigh I did get a review reply from the dev on steam. Staying the logo has changed and they are not racist 👀 but I don't think that's good enough. Seems more to avoid the bad reviews
Bravo and well done for standing up and being counted for something you believe in. We have an obligation through history to learn from the past and misdeeds done throughout time and I always believe it gives us a great foundation to combat ignorance, or a lack of knowledge through education. This was such an opportunity for the game developer but unfortunately, rather than meet your questions with grace and open arms, they chose to illicit further ignorance and non-acceptance of what quite clearly is an unacceptable, and offensive, logo. It’s a shame that some people have an ego which fails to allow them to grow through the knowledge of others but that is his own downfall and should only ever be countered with kindness and the open arms of teaching. Keep up the good work Shanabanana.
All I can think of is would a developer make their logo a guy wearing a pointy hood hanging somebody from a tree and call their company, "Purity Interactive" and still expect any platform to host their games? Would a developer make their logo Uncle Sam kicking somebody into Mexico or Cuba and call their studio, "The Boot" and still expect consoles or storefronts to host their games? Would there be any sort of backlash of an Asian person coughing on somebody and call your studio, "The Contagion" or would people be up in arms about it? This is like the developer who got delisted off Steam for including transphobia in the patch notes.
Thank you for bringing attention to this. This is a terrible logo, but the developers response is even worse. I just dont understand how someone could think that this is okay.
What the actual fuck does 'generic indigenous' even MEAN?! Each indigenous culture is so vibrantly different and distinct that seems an impossibility to make something 'generic' that doesn't use culturally significant imagery from one or another and this logo seems blatantly based on the North American indigenous culture. I'm not aware of another culture this COULD be depicting.
One last thought, since he's tone deaf: His logo and his company are clearly juvenile attempts at hitching a ride on Arrowhead Studios' gravy train. If you look at Arrowhead's logo, it's generic and does not represent an indigenous person. Their games are highly successful. Your "bestie" is just trying to rip off the other company. So, he really doesn't care. You might have more luck getting Arrowhead to sue him for trademark infringement, because money talks, for sure.
As a non-Indigenous person, I am angry for you. This not in anyway an unreasonable thing to be offended about. I saw the logo before seeing this video and it made me uncomfortable. As an Indigenous person I can’t even imagine how you feel. I’m proud of you for taking the steps that you did to contact this horrible person and to let the rest of us know how absolutely trash this company is. They will not receive any more support from me and I will spread your message!

I hate how he talk about you, "a generic indigenous" is like saying a generic tall or a generic white 😣
What is with the need to include an arrow through the head? I don’t get it. 🤔

I was on the benefit of the doubt train until that point as well. I really wanted to be able to have a civil and educational conversation.
They must be held accountable! Thank you for posting!
Thank you for always being a voice to amplify and stand up for what’s right.
We'll be watching this on my stream before we do gaming today, thanks for making this.
Was going to play Doll Impostor this week and a fellow streamer lead me to you. Holy shit. Getting my money back and immediately black listing them.

Thank you for standing up against this and shedding light on it. The dev's replies floored me.
Thank you, Grayce! They floored me too. I love you!
Brilliant video! They seem to have put out an official 'statement' and changed their logo to something very generic - a heart of all things.

Great analogies, honestly.
WOOF. What a disastrous response, thank you for calling him out. Saw that logo and was immediately horrified.
Thank you for standing by myself and the community! Honestly, appalled that this is happening in 2024.
FOUND IT shan ah bah nana
Wow, even their logo... is offensive too...
Right?
@@ShanaLeigh, it is LITERALLY an arrow in the HEAD of an Indigenous person... Come ON!
