One of my 'green pets', I cherish this banana plant!
The stem is getting quite bulbous, and I reckon it won't be long until it flowers for the first time. A pot-up into a larger planter should encourage it to flower by giving the roots extra space.
Your expert advice appreciated, Peter!
Impressive banana! I lost my ensete this winter. :(
It's certainly a beast Gary, will probably thank for for re-potting with a flower spike 🤞. Not easy to handle at that size of course 😁
The planter is so big and the banana plant so sizeable that I am going to have to plan the pot-up out, lol. It is more involved than, say, potting up a citrus standard in a 3 litre pot. I'll probably need a crane 😂
I reckon it won't be too long now until it flowers, Gary 🤞. The base tends to swell before the flower pushes up through the pseudostem. The lean on it is another indication, although if it was already like that and just grew that way, then it could be a red herring.
At one point it was growing vertical, then it started to lean. Maybe not far off then! I'll pot it up ASAP to give it every encouragement.
