I took up this swing 7/1/23. It's is surprisingly simple. Just takes a lot of practice to break my 2 plane muscle memory of 50 years. For me, golf is my passion again
I have only discovered Moe's videos recently, and I'm absolutely amazed by the simplicity and effectiveness of his single plane swing, he was an awesome human being
I saw mo in the 1970's striking balls. When he was at his peak. Even better than this vud. In the 90's he was only a shadow of his former self.
Best ball striker who ever lived???
Yes!!!! Fantastic!!!!
I met Moe in 1998 in Florida. I was a Pro playing on the Tour in Europe. I flew from Germany just to meet him and see him. If you ever had the chance to see him live you know it is not good it is unbelievable and amazing. I watched him hit Driver out of a divot perfectly straight many times. There were many PGA Pros there and 3 PGA Tour pros all watching Moe. We kept saying this is unbelievable, you just can not hit it perfect every time especially with that swing. :) I realized he was right and we were doing it wrong. I love your videos and support what you are doing for the memory of Moe Norman. I think you are the best at explaining what he did. Keep up the good work.
Ed Rowland I’m yet to be 100 percent every shot is dead straight. Only going by his say so. Needed shot tracer
How far did he hit it?
fgfdgfdg He was over 60 years old but he could still hit it about 250 or more. The question to me is not how far he hit it but how well he played? If you are looking to be a long hitter and join the long drive tour this has nothing to do with scoring. He could shoot in the 60s when he was over 65, that was remarkable.
@@shofey I don’t remember exactly when it was. I was there with Jack Kkykendall who knew him and worked with him. It must have been Winter because it was not to hot and it rained almost ever day at the same time.
@@MrKitkennedy If it was „dead straight“ or not is not the issue, he hit it straight and did not miss a fairway.
Well done Todd . Many blessings for growth of your channel. Its a tremendous offering and I love Mo and his impact on so many lives
This is footage from 1988, yet I and many others here in the UK have never heard of Moe and the year now is 2019? I can't get my head round this being missed by the sporting world! I feel robed in not seeing this guy in action who was showing the golfing world in how to hit a golf ball! RIP Moe!
Just sound of the contact with the ball tells you everything that you need to know. Amazing! Thanks for putting this out Todd!
Everytime i see Moe i get, the feeling of greatness !
No emblems, no sponsorships, none of that $ogus, but a kind man who loved to play. Wish I had met him.
Never seen him this early. He was still in decent shape and not elderly yet. Awesome!
16:32 - 17:01: If you get anything out of this video, get these 30 seconds.
"That's the way I trained myself, when I was younger" - 41 inches in a direct line behind the ball, he would attempt to drag the club
"I used to put 2 tees out here, 22 inches ... to where I keep the blade (clubface) square" - 22 inches in a direct line in front of the ball
"That's how I picture in [it] my mind now ... So I see all that now and I DO IT!"
With this understanding, we get why Moe makes a big move forward in his follow through. All in a effort to keep the club on the target line. That was Moe's FEEL and some of it was also REAL!
BTW - I recently hit 260 yard drive using Moe's swing - ruclips.net/video/h4EQsQCLZik/видео.html
I started employing this swing a few weeks ago with the help of Todd and his channel on Moe. I was in Santa Fe hitting balls and a guy walks up and asked if I learned this from Todd Graves. He recognized the swing and said he had been playing with lessons from Todd for 10 years. I am excited to keep doing this swing and love that some one here in New Mexico recognized it.
How, a year later, is it still going with the new single plane swing?
Wow, what a treat. Half an hour of Moe crushing the golf ball, and the lively conversation is priceless. At 6:18, after hitting perfect golf shots for 5 minutes, he finally hits one bad. Everyone was treated to the rare instance of Moe making a bad shot. Moe took in it stride, and had a little fun with it. At 13:18, we here a person in the audience say, "Never misses a green or fairway, HITS IT LONG ENOUGH." So for everyone that says he didn't it long, here we have someone as a first hand witness, saying otherwise. The man was a legend, still is, and is missed!
You don't lose distance. I actually gained distance I was hitting 270-280 yard drivers and an occasional 300 yarder. My irons are longer too. PW 135-140 9i 145-150 8i 150-155 7i 165-170 these are distances with traditional lofts not jacked up lofts either
I dug into the question of whether Moe Norman could hit it 300 yards which he said a number of times during these clinics. The answer is Yes, he did. When he wanted to. He had heart bypass surgery in 1998 I think it was. Maybe he lost a bit of distance but it's hard to say. These videos don't make it clear. No shot tracker and all that. But there's enough testimony to say that he definitely hit it 300 yards when he said he would.
The sound of Moe striking the ball is unbelievable!
He is flexing the shaft at P5 and releasing it through the div, like a leaf spring.
Insanely hard to do, by the way!
It is nice to hear him laugh
Thanks to lockdown in UK I just found your RUclips channel this week looks a complete revaluation
I’m 76 years old now I didn’t play to a bad standard but it’s getting harder mostly lose of distance
My playing partners say you don’t lose many balls you don’t hit them long enough
Anyway I have now ordered the single plane swing book and eagerly awaiting its arrival
Love the videos and the explanation. Looking forward getting out with single plane swing
Many thanks Jim Burnham
Moe was like a machine. I could watch that swing all day long. Thanks for posting this Todd!
You're welcome.
Pleasure to watch!!
Fantastic
Thanks
Moe's hands don't go above his shoulders in the back swing but his follow through is brilliant, many thanks.
You're welcome
@@ToddGravesGolf Moe sets his next shot on the grass with his left hand, he eats with his left hand and he IS left handed
Congrats and thank you for your hard work and great content.
Hey Todd, I've been a subscriber for a couple of years and love this years content ramp up. Your single plane instruction has been pure gold to me and I'm happy to donate to further your cause. I look forward to the additional content and completed documentary. 😀
Thank you Paul. I really appreciate the help.
Anyone who loves golf and has the means, please donate! I didn’t even know Moe, but I felt bad hearing his story...can’t wait for the documentary and then hopefully a movie can be made about him!
His first big amateur win was at St. Thomas, Golf & CC (Ontario, Can.) my home course. Every May, the Early Bird Tournament. A Stanley Thompson delight. Moe won it at 19 and 20...1949 and '50. Many fine amateurs have played The Bird. George Knudsen said the back 9 at St.Thomas, was as fine a back 9 as he's ever played.
You still pkay there? Im in the area if u ever want to have a round
The sound of the strike is unreal!
I agree.
Yeah this is the first video I've been able to hear that accurately. Amazing...he missed one! First time in all the Moe videos I've watched where I've seen that happen.
I’ll be honest I don’t agree with everything you teach, but Im subscribed and I watch every video because I think you have the best content regarding Mo out there. Thanks!
If they had an NBC Television Crew filming his shots it would have turned professional golf instruction on its head!
absolutely stunning feeling when Moe strikes the ball....Wow
Amazing
I wish I started playing golf in '88.
When you just press "play" and is humble as ❤️🙏🙌
Fantastique,,,
Simply amazing! Does any video exist of Moe in actual competition? I would love to see that.
Moe the very best.
I have a huge question, 8 bought single length clubs and I want to know how to use the single plane swing with them help please
What do you need to know?
@@ToddGravesGolf thanks for the reply, I need to know if the set up is the same for single length clubs. I know that all the clubs at in 7 iron legnth I just want to make sure the swing is Correctly done for them
@@sambenson8787 Sure. Same setup. Only difference that you might find is that ball position. I would stick with a 6 iron width stance, and adjust ball position more forward with longer clubs.
@@ToddGravesGolf thanks
I loved watching the parallel line on Moe's shirt that day and the connection to his shoulders. Imagining those same lines extending to the bottom of his pants i can laterally see the spiraling motion of his body that takes place on both his backswing and downswing. The right angle on his trail shoulder sets perfectly at the finish of his swing . Maybe I should patent that one myself for instructors to use as they observe their students swing the club. 😀 Cheers
Yes. Easy to see swing mechanics when you have a shirt with lines on it.
Last thing, I'm still having the small slice in my driver, I adjusted my hands and even the club face any suggestions
Genius greatest ever.
yes. best secret In golf - Moe Norman.
@@ToddGravesGolf How would a Moe Norman documentary help the professional golf teaching organization? I think that's a rhetorical question. Does the PGA want to change? Why rock the boat? With your help it probably will change but it will take some time.
U/Moe equals Awesome
Imagine him now with the technology improvements,- big headed drivers and pro vs
How do I practice single plain swing at the range. Thank you Todd.

Norman played the PGA Tour beginning in 1959. After a tournament in New Orleans, PGA officials gave Norman a dressing down regarding his playing antics. Feeling let down by the PGA's attitude towards him, Norman returned to Canada to play golf.
Norman's record on the PGA Tour:
27 total events played, with 25 cuts made
1 top ten finish and 7 top 25 finishes
$7,139 in tournament prize money
Additionally, Norman played on the Senior PGA Tour from 1981 to 1984:
5 total events played, making the cut in all 5 events
1 top three finish and 2 top ten finishes
A tie for third at the Peter Jackson Champions tournament in 1982, with rounds of 70-69-69-69, winning $10,133 in prize money
$22,983 in total tournament prize money
Was it Moe's methodology that made him such an incredibly consistent ball stricker? Or was it Moe's natural born, God given talent, eye-hand coordination, and athleticism that made him such a great ball stricker? I believe it was a greater portion of the latter than the former.
In other videos and interviews Moe explains his laser focused determination and positivity. He hit around 700 balls a day and developed his technique by listening to his body. He spent hours and hours per day practicing but I think his most impressive trait is his mental toughness.
Sounds like Kelly Murray in the red polo
Todd, The question was ask right at the beginning this video about taking a Divet. I noticed mold doesn’t take a debit with an iron. Can you kind of speak to that? When I take a Divet it usually hurts so I’ve never understood the need for it but I’d like to hear what you have to say. Thank you, Frazer
Moe struck the ball with ideal angles of approach. He did take divots but they were very shallow and often times, the lie of the ball dictates whether you see a divot or not. A divot is created naturally from the hands leading the club into impact. You should not TRY to take a divot and Moe - did not try either.
An amazing Repeatable Golf Swing. Moe was not Technical.
I am short 5/4 inchs tall there is no way that can stand as wide as you do when I hit my Driver, when i have tried to use your wide stance I feel like i fall forward. I do have the ball position trainer . when I do stand with shoulder with or a little wider than shoulder with i seem to hit the ball better. I bought your clubs the rouge clubs custom fitted for my size. by the way great Price. What can you tell about my stance wide
What happened to the movie ? Did it ever get made ?
will complete this year. Www.thefeelingofgreatness.com
Can't wait . My golf hero Moe !

Good luck with your ’Road to Toronto’ documentary about Moe Norman. What amount of additional funding do you require to complete the documentary?
Sir Knees are not bend at the time of adress ?
It should be straight?
around 10:45 is he actually playing at slicing the ball on purpose and still be able to aim a tree consistently? am i hearing right? i just can't belive that. my brain doesn't compute. if it's what i heard. this is actually scary in fact.
Does Moe ever wear a glove? Just an interesting observation.
Todd do you know of any people coaching single plane over in England
Chris. Not yet. We have our online coaching program where you can send your videos to a coach for review. It is a very popular program. Let me know if your interested.
Todd Graves yes
Todd Graves thanks Todd please send me information on how I join the program to send over my video swings to be coached the correct way I have IG account. Chris the Blinggolfer
Would give anything to hit the ball like moe.
Hi Todd, Im 71 yrs old, How can I get speed in the swing, pse help.
look at his videos covers this skimming a stone hitting through the ball staying in tilted stance till after impact
Dusty. Are you asking for a "quick" solution or a "long-term" one? The reason I ask is that having great technique maximizes your distance potential. From there, you must develop speed. If your swing movement is technically sound then your must develop arm speed to increase club speed. To do this you must work in this order - Lower body stability, Upper Body Rotation (RANGE and speed) and then from there you can begin to move the arms faster. One way that I accomplished this is simply by bracing my lower body and simply making fast arm swings. I would try this first but you must do it every day for at least one month. Are you up for it?
ナイス👍❤
Why does Moe compare his swing to Hogan so much I've heard him in other videos
Pat Ibarra because they played in the same era and were both regarded as the best ball strikers.
" Tom hanks" to play no in a movie
Notice Moe has extremely strong hands causing great speed
Were all Moe's irons....blades??.
The irons Moe used in the 60s and 70's (his favorite clubs) were the Topflite Bird over ball (brand). They were blades. Later in his life he used Titleist Cavity Back irons. Here is a blog I wrote about his clubs which are in a golf shop in Canada. moenorman.org/2016/12/27/moes-favorite-clubs/
Dang AutoCorrect Divet
Is it me or does he have a really closed stance? Looks like he’s aiming to the right but then hits it left which would be straight?
This analysis says he does ruclips.net/video/dzc2QLmd_MY/видео.html
23:35 25:15~27:00
just curious, why are there no pros with these swing mechanics. I think it is because not many people have the body type to pull off this swing. Moe had very strong hands it appears, and a short stocky build. If it was as good and easy as portrayed, you would see more like it. Moe was definitely some type of genius , or idiot savant type. They can accomplish amazing things. I do think the Lee Trevino may have has a very similar swing.
I can answer that and you could as well. Read the book, The Feeling of Greatness: The Moe Norman Story. He had social problems that made it virtually impossible to play head to head with the top pros and so forth. Some thought maybe he was autistic or something along those lines. Despite possibly being the greatest golfer there was no way he could fully compete as most people could have done with that talent and work ethic.
And it is not just that he was probably the greatest ball striker, the rest of his game, the short game was excellent. The only place I could tell he was lacking was putting. His view was that putting wasn't part of golf. The idea was to hit it close to the hole and tap it in, or something to that effect. You'll see, if you watch most of the videos of him, that his short game was fantastic. Very accurate up to the point of putting.
So level and long. Same tee, not removing a bit😇
5 dislikes.....so many?
Probably jealousy. It's like nearly all the teaching out there doesn't teach you mechanics to hit the ball straight and accurate. At least I think that is part of it. If Moe had the social skills he would have been the Tiger Woods of his era. I'm quite sure of that. And a lot more pros would be teaching Moe's swing, like Todd Graves.
After watching this and reading his biography, I dislike it when people are ribbing Moe in the video, feels like they are mocking him and although he played up to them he seemingly hated being the brunt of the joke. I know he hated the Clown of Golf jibes.
Sometimes. But Sometimes he liked it because he liked the attention.
@@ToddGravesGolf he certainly was a showman.
Debit
hi Todd, yes im up for it, se help.
That sound... ball compression and recoil so pure that all you hear is the "whoosh" of the club through the air and the gentle brushing of the grass by the club head. Intoxicating. :)
