We love to get out and explore the rural parts of a country.... That is where you truly learn about the culture of a country! We are happy that you enjoyed the video!
In their 1956 revolution, my English family took in 2 Hungarian refugees. The woman eventually returned to her family and the man to Canada's arctic. They were lovely people and so were their families who thanked us over and over again for taking them in.
My father also fled Hungary during the 1956 freedom fight....he ended up in France, then Australia and finally Namibia...I was born there with my two sisters. We have since returned to Hungary. Thank you for being so kind and taking in the afore mentioned Hungarian refugees... those were difficult times. ❤❤❤from Hungary
You are incredible people, taking care of the ones in need. I'M from Debrecen, the capital of the region in the video. When the russians attacked Ukraine, I also took a family of 3 in my own house. I don't even know their family names, nor did we speak the same language. I only know the mother is Christina, her son Vova and her sister Angelina and that they were refugees from the town of Dnipro. They lived with us for a couple months under the same roof, using our otherwise empty room. So you may consider, that we forwarded the favour you gave to some of our fellow Hungarians in the time of need.
What a great road movie :) I happen to live in this region of Hungary, and there is only one comment from me: This place is pronounced "Hortobadj" or "Hortobadge", not "hortobagay". :) You should come back during the Hortobagy Equestrian Days. Then you can see miracles like a Hungarian Gulash (our Cowboy) riding 5 horses at once, standing on the back of the last two horses. Just unbelieveable. Enjoy the your european trip, I'm now subscribed.
I have lived in Sweden for 16 years, and it was a great pleasure to see again where I was born, where I lived, where I was a child. thank you for this beautiful video, it's really great❤️
Always fun to watch the birds! Also, my mom’s maiden name was Yuhasz which is the American version of this word, Juhasz which means shepherd. So I guess my ancestors were probably shepherds. 😉😊
Thank you for taking the time to see Hungary beyond Budapest! If you are ever back I highly recommend for nature lake Balaton or Bükk national park and for other towns Eger and Pécs are really nice!
The European bird I miss the most since living in North American is the nightingale. I swear, that song is so sweet, so enchanting - I will never forget it. But the ubiquitous cuckoo is charming as well, another one we don't hear "across the pond". So glad you got to spend time in your happy place, Curt!
I watched your video early in the morning, which was very atmospheric and nostalgic. You have been to amazing places and made wonderful recordings. I want to be there now.
What an interesting environment. What a nature and birding paradise. So glad you went. I could spend days there. So many types of birds in one area is rare. The ecosystem must be very healthy. Thanks for sharing.
Those bee-eaters are gorgeous. It looked like they were nesting into the muddy banks of a river. Or maybe those were holes for another reason. And those cattle are huge. So glad to have learned about the different bells…that was very clever.
I’m amazed at the sheer beauty of many parts of the earth . It’s refreshing to know the journey with you 4 is my pleasure to tag along ❤ . Prayers for you and Curt and the kitties .
You are so lucky to see all those places! My husband was stationed in Germany 1976 - 1980 and there were so many places we were forbidden to travel to.
❤❤❤😂😂 Your birding videos captivate my kitty Every time he hears your voices and birds chirping, he runs to the TV. Buddy loves the nature like your fur babies. Feel better Snow! You are doing the right things. As a retired RN who mostly worked the heart units all over the U.S. I'm sure your doctor has told you thar your condition is treatable. You have many years to see the world and spend time with your lovely families.
if you like birds, there is a huge lake spanning across Austria and Hungary (Fertò), also don't miss the Kis (little) Balaton southwest of lake Balaton!
WOW, you are so kind and amazing. This comes at a perfect time for us financially. Thank you so incredibly much, it means more than you know.❤️❤️❤️🙏☮️‼️
When we travel we are drawn to spend time in nature and birds seem to be what we get to see the most. What a great couple of days for Snow to rest and Curt to explore!
This is just fascinating - how the livestock animals thrive on special grasses, the birds living in this area, all thrive and depend on the environment together - for life. Thank you for taking me along- love the shepherds’ museum. The bell system is incredible! Blessings, Jojo💜
I understand totally as I have heart failure also. I'm impressed with how well you do with the walking. I can't do it, but I'm probably 20 years older than you are. Aren't they pretty birds.
👍🤩💝🙏Please rest Snow. 🙏💝 👍I learned about the different herd bells when I walked The Camino. I recorded the beautiful bell sounds as I walked over the Pyrenees mountains. Thank you for a terrific video. Safe travels. 💝
As I Hungarian, after seeing your video about the "Puszta" or as we calls it "Hortobágy", today one of the main hungarian TV channel (RTL Hungary) just presented a very exciting movie about the wild life of "Hortobágy". I warmly suggest you to check it out, amazing shoots about birds, foxes, and wild horses. The title is "Vadlovak" (Wild horses) by Zoltán Török. I can't find the whole movie in the YT, only some trailer, but hopefully you can find the whole movie somewhere else.
I love your montage of the nature with the calming song Beautiful Dreamer. I had forgotten about that song. My daddy used to sing that to me when I was a little girl. (I'm 63 now)
The beaver looking critter is possibly a Nutria. They are destructive, they were brought to the US as a fur and food source. But that didn’t take off well, so now they are just part of the environment and destroy water ways and ponds. Yes, it could be a muskrat too. I’ll have to look again! Another awesome video!
I love your videos. I do sometimes have a little laugh at the pronunciation of foreign place names. Hortobag"eye" isn't how it's said. It's more Hortoba then a soft dj sound. In HUngarian the gy is like soft J. Great footage of the birds as always :)
Wow, that was another fabulous video, I appreciate the sharing of the things you learn, the things you capture so beautifully and your editing skills! Thank you Snow for explaining when you need to rest, I am always concerned but I trust you both to be very aware of your health and safety! Happy days!💕🇨🇦
Hari OM A stunner today, peeps! I must say though, the herdsman would be called a cowherd (shepherd = sheep, goatherd = goats, swineherd = pigs); and I only saw male cattle there. I am hazarding an educated guess that the majority are bullocks (aka steers, ie castrated) being fattened for the meat market. The tipped horns are most likely the intact breeding bulls. Cows would be kept separately, with any calves. There are just some farming rules that are universal! I loved your museum visit, Curt; thank you for sharing so much of it. Fascinating stuff. Stay strong Snow!!! YAM xx
When you get to the UK try and visit Minsmere Bird Sanctuary in Suffolk. Also nearby are the historic village of Lavenham and USAAF Lakenheath if you can get an invite onto the base you can stock up on anything you are missing from home.
Lovely video, great to see you enjoyed your time in my homeland! So nice to find people who appreciate our natural treasure. I loved that the museum shares so much information and beautiful imagery with the visitors. A small hint of correction: the Hungarian pronunciation is [ˈhortobaːɟ]. The double consonant gy stands for a sound similar to d as in duke or reduce in British English. 😊 Wish you many more lovely trips around the world.
Interesting journey. You mentioned Kosice in Slovakia 🇸🇰. There is a beautiful cathedral there, St. Elizabeth's. My grandparents came from near there in 1900. Unfortunately, I have never been there, so I live for your videos. Thanks for all you show us in your travels.
@@SnowAndCurtThanks for seeing my post. I just got excited when I saw your route. I knew nothing about my family until I was able to rent microfilms from rhe Mormon Family History Cener in Utah of church records in the Kosice area. There I found the birth records of my grandparents in 1881 and 1883. They lived in 3 villages west of Kosice. Semsa, Novacany and Hodkovce. Can't wait to see your videos of that countryside, near those villages. We have been following you since your crossing into Mexico from San Diego years ago. Your excursion into my grandparents villages is an added plus. Thanks again for sharing your adventures. Sincerely, John and Liliana
Wow I missed this one and went back to watch it, an oh it was so good! have missed you guys being out in nature super interesting info in this one thank's! good job : )
Lovely area! Thank you for taking us along! Wonderful pictures and video, Curt! Snow, continue to journey, find joy in exploring, and listen to the needs of your body. Take care!
Baker's grows (or at least used to) grows mangalitza pigs (another name for mangelica) they are extremely hearty! They can farrow in -20°F without any shelter!
Finally, a tourist who loves and respects nature is not only interested in the concrete jungle of Budapest. Beautiful pictures. Thank You very much.

I’m so glad you guys are going through these Eastern European countries that I would otherwise never see. Hungary is such a beautiful country.
Hungary is a Central European country. Officially
I think birds are some of God's most artistic creations. The colors, the sounds, the variety. Just pure beauty!
I've been enamored with birds since I was old enough to hold binoculars...that's 54 years ago. I'm so glad to find others that feel the same way.
This is a truly authentic experience, far off the beaten path. Thank you for showing Hungary in a different, less touristy way!
Our pleasure!
Hortobágy is a pretty beaten path though. for us hungarians at least.
I don't usually comment. BUT -This video was so beautiful I had to say "thank you for making my day much better."
Wow, thank you!
The Hungarian cattle herding dog is the Mudi. The breed comes in several coat colors.

Fantastic episode.....I like the museum and of course this landscape and animals. We need lots of protected Natureparks.
What an interesting environment. What a nature and birding paradise. So glad you went. I could spend days there. So many types of birds in one area is rare. The ecosystem must be very healthy. Thanks for sharing.
In Hortobágy, you can only drive in very few places and only on developed roads. Motorboats are also prohibited on our largest lake, Balaton.
💝💘💖 Fantastic find Snow. Those European Bee-eaters were just beautiful. Thank you for all the wildlife today! Safe traveling! ❇❇❇
Glad you enjoyed it

What a old beautiful song!
This was the most beautiful, relaxing, enjoyable birding expedition - loved every minute. And finding the European Bee Eaters - wow! Gorgeous!
Many thanks!
The Bee eaters, fantastic photo of the most colourful bird in Europe!
Was so happy when I spotted them in the south of France ❤
The kingfishers are even more colourful than this birds even though the bee eaters are so precious birds!
Beautiful place 😍 I like the bird watching 👀 Thanks for sharing 👍 Cheers 🍻
What an amazing place and history! I've never heard of it.
Cows are good for the environment when done right. Dont let anyone tell you otherwise!!!

Thank you for sharing! Love from Hungary ❤❤
The grazing animals get used to the constant giggling of the bells and it helps to keep them together.
Wow, this is the best stop ever. So many beautiful interesting things to see ...good job. Those birds are amazing.😢
We agree!
Curt says “cleaning is a never ending chore” as he casually walks away for a stroll😎! Well done sir….well done!

Good health to you and safe journey. Just don’t get sick in Hungary.
It’s great to wake up on a Saturday or Wednesday and know there’s a new video. Thanks so much
Yes I agree, I always look forward to Wednesday and Saturday. It's how I start my day. They are my favorite channel.
Thanks for the birds. Lovely.

Was that a cuckoo bird I heard!?😮 Love the nature shots, especially the Merganser eating a fish and the Barn Swallows building their nests!❤
Yes, it was a cuckoo 🐦 I heard it too: 10:36 and 11:10
Welcome my homeland!
Fascinating, what a fabulous video from you yet again people. I had no idea this place existed. Thank you for sharing x
Just incredible…❤❤
"The hortoba-guy" :) Just kidding. This was a cool tourist guide.

We call this type off bells "kolomp" in hungary.
I came to enjoy your traveling videos, but I stayed for the birding videos. 🐦❤️😃
Awesome! Thank you!

My money is on it being a muskrat
Nutria sausages are delicious, though 😋.
Due to the location, it is more likely really a beaver, an eurasian beaver.
So glad to hear you are taking care Snow. RnR is the best!
