Native Mandarin Chinese speaker here. This is actually a very useful phrase, used to call out when someone is unnecessarily complicating a situation or exaggerating their response to a situation. Depending on the context, the English equivalent could be "keep it simple, stupid" or "making a mountain out of a molehill".
What do you think of her pronunciation? Speaking as someone who studied Mandarin in school 15 years ago she sounded surprisingly good compared to what I expected but I’m. It exactly a great judge
@@kates8886 It was pretty good. Her 4th tone goes in and out a little
It seems to me that "making a mountain out of a molehill" is more like "小题大作"?(Please correct me if I'm wrong.)
(^∇^)ノ♪Her pronunciation is on point.
@@hqi1321 the irony of this comment, love it 😂 (that's not a dig at you btw)
More like ‘多此一举’
Rosamund Pike, one of the world's vastly underrated beauties.
Ssshhh dont tell everybody
AND she knows how to confidently kill a person!
Well, not really.
I hear women don‘t want to be put in those categories anymore?
Couldn't have agreed more with you!!
Her enunciation of the tones were pretty good. Quite impressed.
Native Mandarin speaker here. Her pronunciation is accurate, I can tell that she has already mastered the tones in Mandarin. All she needs now is to improve the fluency.
That was actually so interesting! I thought they just wanted to troll her providing such a sentence but it turned out to be an idiom, and quite a good one. Plus: I love the tone Rosamund gives to things, she explains it as I imagine Wikipedia would if it could talk. Slightly serious and informative but fun.
Rosamund Pike is easily one of few British actresses whose acting ability is beyond believable. 👑
Rosamund Pike is probably the best Bond girl ever. Brains and beauty all in one, and her phenomenal performance in Gone Girl still send chills to my spine everytime I rewatch it!!
Love that movie. Have watched it at least 1mil times...shes brilliant
After Gone Girl and then you watch I Care A Lot, you're going to want to check under your bed for Rosamund Pike before you sleep at night 😬
I think you’ll enjoy her in The Wheel of Time.
I read the book and was so nervous about that who they’d cast. She nailed it. I was just as scared watching her as reading her. She was brilliant.
Close second to Luciana Paluzzi.
Lol that's a Chinese slang originated in northern China where I'm from, reminds me of my dad who always say this phrase in a hilarious way! Her pronunciation (and her kids) are very accurate!
一开口我惊了,好标准
@@wolfmare4239 是啊,这么东北
God this just makes me love her more! She recently posted a video on her Instagram in which she managed to speak much more complicated phrases in mandarin. I was flabbergasted as a native Chinese speaker. Her pronunciation is awesome!!!
Wow, her Chinese pronunciation is quite good, the tones are comprehendable.
She’s such a luminous beauty! LOVE her!
Her nervousness is adorable!
Pretty good Mandarin! I just saw "I Care A Lot", Pike speaks in American accent in the movie. She has good ears and can pick up the right tones for different languages.
Lol the Mandarin is pretty good.
Lol
It sounds and looks like shes in a confession booth and graham is the priest who is secretly laughing at her confessions
Holycrap, she almost doesn't have any accent, it's almost perfect Mandarin.
Her Mandarin tones are pretty good! What a talented beauty
"Oh Rosy, _kitcheeennnnnssss_ "
FUNNIEST CLIP EVER!! Her Judi Dench impression was spot-on!
@@romulusthemainecoon3047 totally! 😆 Now whenever I see Rosamund, I have this impression that pops up in my head. Rosy was too good. 😄😄
Wow the pronunciation was perfect! Lol
language is a wonderful thing isn't it

I like how Rosamund said it twice afterwards
Her pronunciation is absolutely spot-on!! And she sounds like she learned the phrase from a Taiwanese instead of Chinese accent. Brilliant.
Not sure about this being Taiwanese accent though. This is actually exactly what a fluent non-native mandarine speaker sounds like. If you grew up / live in a western country, especially North America , the “ Chinese accent “ you associate with might actually be from the Cantonese speaking group , not mainlanders.
The opposite is the truth
Rosamund Pike is such a down to earth woman!! Love her so much!
Wow, pronunciation is spot on!
Her pronunciation was really good! Cracked me up immediately 😂
Her pronunciation and tones are very accurate.
Remember when Rosamund and Chris Martin were on the show together and we al thought and hoped they'd become a couple 💑
She was married at that time, and he was in a relationship, so......
@@ziggystatdust6008 yes, but we still shipped 😂
That was one of the funniest episodes. Great chemistry between them and also Micheal McIntyre.
@@sugarfreee Yes! I've watched it alot. So good !
I have never heard mandarin spoken with a British accent before now.
? Really I don't believe you
@@samuelthorley9547 I don't live in Britain and the British that are here don't bother.
Where is here
@@samuelthorley9547 not Britain
I mean I've heard it spoken in Midlands, Staffordshire, London, Blackpool, scouse, rp and many others in China, Thailand, Portugal, the Philippines and Malaysia but OK.
Loved her in I Care A Lot. Makes you hate her in that movie, she plays it so well
She can do comedy pretty well too......tbh.
0:58 Rosamund is already preparedb😊😊😊
Wow that’s brilliant pronunciation! I am impressed!
My grade on her mandarin pronunciation: 96 out of 100. It sounds very natural, kinda perfect.
Kids, Teach Your Parents Well
😂😂
So she said
Impressive! Lol! Her intonation wasn’t bad at all!
you’re pretty :)
Friday night social etiquette gone with a Mandarin wind! Lol. Good stuff!
Rosamund pike will always be my crush.
Mandarin interpreter here. Pike’s pronunciation is amazingly good. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The way she talks🤌❤️
Rosamund "GONE GIRL" pike .an absolute legend.
Loved Rosamund in Gone Girl.
Our wonderful Aei Sedai learning the Old Tongue...
Her accent is spot on! And well done #grahamnortonshow #grahamnorton for posting something light hearted about Chinese culture especially around the time of Covid.

How refreshing to here a fun family snippet.
She's so classy and beautiful
haha i’m literally in the middle of watching i care a lot and this was recommended to me
Ummm ... Yeah. That's how the algorithm works.
I just love her.
Excellent pronunciation!!! 👍👍👍👍
Her kids could try to teach Gordon Ramsay how to say "where's the lamb sauce" in Mandarin...
"羊排醬在哪兒!?"
Not badddddd. The intonation is spot on
"脱裤子放屁" -- Gordon: Now I have one more weapon in my arsenal !!!
What,I'm impressed,her pronunciation was really great 👍
Wow, that's pretty precise! Well done! :)
I didn't know that jane and Mr bingley moved to the Czech Republic
She was THE best Jane!!
She’s there filming The Wheel of Time show.
@@romulusthemainecoon3047 AGREED!!!!
Love Rosamund Pike
Just saw “I care a lot” amazing movie! Peter D was superb!
She is soo lovely
I mean ... can we just admire that necklace?
I learn mandarin too! 'Ku zi' meaning trousers and 'fang pi' meaning the act to.. You know.. 🤣💩
Wow she looks really nice with dark hair!
A Swedish colleague once taught me if I ever meet a Swedish girl I should say (phonetically) “feekta loketa feesk”
Still have no idea what it means or if it’s a compliment or not
I'm swedish and I have no idea what that's supposed to mean
@@Nixynyxi It’s difficult to type. Maybe more like “fikta lukter fisk” if that means anything?
@@Nixynyxi He means "Fitta luktar fisk".
@@Sekusamu what does that mean
@@Sekusamu oh god I just translated it. Thank god I never said it to a girl!! Haha
講得好標準啊哈哈哈哈哈😂
her pronunciation is super good!!!
She’s absolutely gorgeous 😍
Didn’t know who she was - or is - but I can understand that she’s an actor?
Yes she is. Nowadays she's well known from the movie Gone Girl
Watch Die Another Day. she was fantastic in that
What's so gorgeous about her? She looks like a very average white woman.
What a brilliant actress and a clever woman. I envy her partner
She is brilliant. I have always thought so. And it is an entertaining show because Graham is so self deprecating.
Omg she is stunning
Her pronunciation is spot on.
God I love women with this accent. Plus she's an attractive woman. Can't lose
But if you do that everyone will know it's you and you couldn't blame the dog. :-)
Her chinese pronunciation is 牛逼、much better than a lot of southern and SEA chinese
Jadore Rosamund Pike 🥰😍
Very good pronunciation.
Didn't expect to *👩🏫 learn that today 🇬🇧😱😂
She's gorgeous, aging like fine wine
Ramsay's back on Graham haha
I'm a Taiwanese, and that's the idiom to express that one did a redundant move which won't affect or change what one was going to do
Everyone: Her Mandarin pronunciation was really good.
Everyone: She's gorgeous and talented.
Me: Both true, but why is she sitting in the corner of a dungeon?
The phrase is not just useful, but could be very well used to make a point and show your attitude that someone did something unnecessary, too far too complicated, and even awkwardly. A good example of situation to say it, your boyfriend complains about his colleagues request to do something at work that is not needed to and wasted.
That is by far the weirdest thing I have heard on this show
you should hear Robbie Williams's castle story
@@h0lly_blue omg I just went to watch that and damn xD
@@h0lly_blue
me too 😂thanks for that !
@@h0lly_blue Or any of Robbie's stories on the show. That's some life that guy has lived! lool
What a delicate beauty..... and a decent person, I am certain.
hahaha this is one we using a lot
Rosamund shows some insight in her marriage.

I am from Taiwan and can tell you her mandarin is very good ! XDD
Hey rosamund pike.....love you 😘😘😘 mm kisss
She looks so pretty here, not evil like the roles she plays.
well...she played very bad person in 'i care a lot' and yet she was so pretty in it.
I like her mandarin!
Hahaha pretty good mandarin !
Brown heat looks good on her
It means doing too much for something that requires little.
I actually thought it means "avoiding a catastrophe" because you might accidentally squirt a little when you produce flatulence.
"well flee Britain for Prague, and instead of learning Czech, we'll show our supreme intellect by showing off our Mandarin"
cool girl
chineses here as well, thats 100% correct!well down!
The Chinese-American in me really appreciates a pretty good pronunciation in Mandarin, but my American half jokingly wants to say “It’s pants!”
Is ' it's pant's ' slang for its terrible in the states too? (also she says Kùzi not Nèikù :P)
@@td1559 Don’t know what you’re coming up with your pinyin, but they’re not referring to the same object. Pants and trousers in the US aren’t entirely the same thing, but trousers in the UK = pants in the US
@@jacquelineye8532 Pants in the UK means specifically underwear. My Mandarin is awful, but I'm pretty sure she isn't talking about underwear.
@@td1559 Just know that we Americans call the UK version of “pants” as “panties,” “underpants” or “underwear.” When Americans say “pants” we mean the UK’s version of “trousers.” That’s why I say “JOKINGLY” because I am an American
@@jacquelineye8532 I am fully aware what Americans mean when they mangle my mother tongue. I'd have though the ':P' in my initial comment would have made it clear it was intended to be the inevitable 'joking' retort. oh well.
Rosamund pike. Her Chinese name is 裴淳华
Awesome!!! ;)
blonde suits her better
That was a very good near perfect pronounction!
