I think only two got a standing ovation. 1 was because they literally asked us to get up start clapping and filming so it would have been awkward not to. And the other one because it was about 9/11 and I feel like everyone would feel it would be disrespectful to actual history to not stand up and clap at how emotional the musical one. One of my favorite musical ever (Falsetto) that I actually travelled specifically to see and that was my favorite of the trip didn't get one and people (including myself) were just full on sobbing. It really depends on the theater more than anything.
i physically can not comprehend an applause of over three minutes as both an actor AND audience member… unless there’s like, a musical number of some kind. standing ovations have always seemed more like expected social niceties than a meaningful thing to me.
