You do realize that, because they are competing against each other, it doesn’t matter if they’re getting 1 or 100 points when they are all going to get the same score. It’s the same as giving them all 0.

Paul Ego's idea was genius. I think his problem was he knew he could return to the mat any time so instead of running trying to hide, he was just walking. If he had more panic in him, was running, he would have done better
He did say it took a while to come up with the idea, and the gap between Steve's time and Chris's (next up in the ranking) was more than 9 minutes. So it would have sped him up of course, but I would pretty assured it wouldn't have made a difference for the ranking.

I assume it's similar to in the UK where the producers have the tiebreaks lined up in priority order, starting with the one they perceive to be the best, and often unused ones will be recycled for future seasons. That being said, some people think they essentially rig it to give contestants falling behind a chance to win an episode, with a few contestants getting their only win from a tiebreaker (i.e. Hugh Dennis, Katherine Parkinson). @@christianboehlefeld5168Seeing the exact task has nothing to do with it. It’s about knowing the philosophy behind how the tasks are set up. With this task as an example, if you have a task where “fastest wins”, but each step of the task has an obviously quick option and an obviously slow option, the slow option must provide some kind of benefit.
@@benzaiten933 Series 13 episode 5, "Having a Little Chuckle", aired 12 May 2022, three months before this series. That was the episode with the high-five Alex task. It is likely that the NZ team kept it in because the presentation was vastly different, no comping to make it appear as if everyone competed together, and because the way the contestants behaved was different enough to give it a totally different vibe. It wasn't like the NZ series 1 task, make the biggest thing disappear, that aired within a week of a near identical task in the UK series. The ill-fated US version had "make this block of ice disappear" and "make a basket without using your hands" among other repeated tasks. The first episode of the Swedish Taskmaster even has the oft attempted bubble wrap task done to completion. The Swedish Taskmaster's Assistant went on Taskmaster: The People's Podcast and mentioned that they use any of the UK tasks that they think will work with their contestants and audience. So, yes, the international versions are allowed to copy the UK version's tasks.
Taskmaster contestants should take a leaf out of our book and bingewatch all seasons before they go on the show. I'd have been looking for that double-headed coin from the get-go.
This episode originally aired in Aug 2022, the UK episode with the same premise aired in Nov 2023. The team behind Taskmaster NZ make it a point to not copy any previously used tasks from the UK series. The team who make the UK series have no problem copying any tasks they like from NZ.
As much as I love Taskmaster, unfortunately this episode is just bad. The whole intention is that points are awarded based on the contestants actions (albeit on the Taskmaster's whims). The coin flipping is basically just a random game that the contestant has no control over, so the points are awarded effectively arbitrarily for that task. The live task also had an ambiguous direction because the Taskmaster didn't specify which pocket. Whether it was intentional or not, the contestants had to pick one at random, hence giving their final score a massive randomness to it. At this point, you might as well have the contestants roll dice, and the highest number wins.
You would have a point about the coin flipping except that the task does provide a two headed coin, and the fact that nobody found it is more of a skill issue than anything.

@@christianboehlefeld5168 that is very true. the NZ, and also AU, version have come up with great tasks, which have been copied by the UK version. also in this season so far was the 'touch a cow' which was altered to high-five Alex in the UK. + the international versions aren't allowed to copy UK tasks, but the other way around is allowed.
I'd have been looking for that double-headed coin from the get-go.
i expected the reveal to be the lucky penny to be honest
I believe this episode is actually the origin of the fortune trail task because this series was filmed before the UK series.
4:51 don't you love it when a pretty good comedian makes a joke, and a different comedian makes it less funny because they just can't be quiet for 2 minutes (:
I love Taskmaster NZ, but this cast really doesn't do it for me, especially compared to absolutely phenomenal Australian S2 cast
This is the weakest of the new zealand casts. Josh and Chris are good but the rest is meh. Kura is the worst.
Guy from s1 really hurt the vibe imo
want your money back or what?
@@aj1218 i actually found Justine to be good in this episode, her best so far. the reaction of Paul to "popped it long time ago" was great.
I’ll be honest the host of this show sucks
first
Ah yes, allergies, famous for being 'not that bad'. Can't get robbed if you're dead because you are a peanut after all.
God Jeremy Wells is boring as the TM, can we just skip the rest of NZ and get started on Australia maybe?
yes you can, just don't watch when it says Taskmaster NZ
@@mremumerm AU isn't being uploaded though. Probably until NZ is over.
@@mremumerm Just don't leave unhelpful comments. He's trying to give it a go and give NZ a chance to redeem itself after terrible decision after terrible decision, but it keeps letting him down. He's doing his part, and the staff or decision-makers or whoever on NZ are not doing theirs.
TM AU is definitely superior to (this season of) TM NZ, but if you're bothered with Jeremy's criteria, you'll go livid when you experience Tom's
@@Milktube they asked if they could skip TM NZ, what is wrong with providing them with the answer? You think asking to skip NZ for those who are enjoying it if better?
TMNZ is the best eye opening experience to come to the realization that Kiwis are not funny.
You can't conceive of people enjoying different things? Weird
@@iambicpentakill971 why is my not enjoying this any less valid than your enjoying it?
You can't conceive of people enjoying different things? Weird.
The over acting and playing stupid is so over the top this could only be funny to children and I have to assume that's who they are pandering to. They are so committed to the character/bit they are trying to portray all the natural comedy of this format has been lost. That's a shame this is awful.
