I'm new to the channel, hello. One mealtime tip I heard when my 3 children were small was to eat dinner by candlelight. (In the dark winter months, of course.) This calmed down even the two feisty boys, and they acted a bit more civilized. No more jostling each other at the table, because it might knock over the open flame. Lighting and snuffing the candles were their favorite jobs. They're now grown, with kids of their own. One son still lights candles at dinner.
The cookbook sounds wonderful. I'm even busier with the kids gone, expanding our business and volunteering at church.

My mom did this when I was a kid (in the 1960s), and it really did make dinner calmer. My little brother and I really liked it. And snuffing the candles at the end of the meal was indeed a treat according to us. :D

I do this too!! We start on 9/11 as a tribute to all the first responders and people who lost their lives bc really it affected us all. One candle shorter than the other to represent the two towers. Then we continue through the winter months to eat by candle light.

@@petmomful2260 I use a very similar method of cooking for the week. Ie: batch cook rice or potato, and protein, Chop up veggies that can be added to several dishes. Most recipes can be made vegan with a bean or tofu substitute. I notice that I prefer certain veggies/herbs, so it makes sense to come up with a list of different ways you can use the same ingredients. For me, it helps to think of different ethnic/food types when putting food together, to change things up. IE: Indian, Mexican, Italian, Greek, American BBQ style, Breakfast, Salads, Soups, etc. For example, I happen to love cilantro, it is used in many Mexican and Indian dishes, yet tastes very different due to the spices added with it. I love both styles, so I keep garam masala in my pantry along with chili powder pretty much all the time, in addition to having garlic, onions and ginger on hand. Through experimentation I discovered how to keep fresh items longer via drying/freezing. Ie: basil leaves can be frozen and then crumbled once frozen & added to many dishes, and curry leaves can be dried, when bought fresh. I notice, you can now buy the dried form of curry leaves in the Indian markets. This was not common before, even though it is in most sambhar powders and garam masala mixes.

I have been prepping and cooking on Sundays for years (inventory & meal planning, and shopping done on Thursdays, which is the least busy day at Aldi's). I was a single mom, working full time and this was a routine that worked for me and my son. He's 34 now, living his life, and I still have the same routine for just myself. I enjoy keeping my food expenses low, knowing what is in the food I eat and that it is healthy. It's a blessing to ourselves. And it's one of the habits that rubbed off on him. I love it when he calls for a recipe or directions. Thank you for sharing -- here's hoping your inspiration rubs off on many other young families.

My grandmother always recommended making all the dinners for the week on Sunday. It is hard to do, but this idea of same basic ingredients seems easier. It looks amazing! Only problem is my family would prefer it all to be kept separate, not as a casserole.

This sounds good for those of us with a little grey hair too! This looks like a wonderful way to streamline my cooking because as I get older, I seem to have less energy for cooking, yet we want to eat healthy and stay away from those frozen foods too. I end up cycling through the same old recipes--many of which use those two kinds of soup!

I just spent 10 days with my son and his wife with their 2 1/2 year old and their newborn son. I had gotten this book for myself (from your recommendation), and once I saw it, I drove it over to my daughter's house (who has 6 kids, 9 and under) and gave it to her. She HATES to cook (because her husband eats like an army, and there are NEVER any leftovers, so she has to come up with something new every night), but this book has made her SO excited to start cooking again.
When I knew I would be going to my son's home, I bought ANOTHER copy of it and had it shipped there in advance of my arrival. I allowed my daughter-in-law, new mother, to choose which week looked good to her, and I made the meals while I was there with them. I did Week 19 (main ingredients are pork roast, sweet potatoes and brussels sprouts). The prep was SO easy, I could not believe it. The only problem was that the smell of the pork in the crock pot tortured me all day!!!
We made the bowls the first night. We were ALL amazed how good everything was. Their 2 1/2 year old asked for MORE of the sweet potato "chips"!
The next day was the sheet pan dinner, with apples and onion (which I thought sounded kind of weird, but was AMAZING!). I know they liked it, because my son took seconds (I could tell he wanted to snitch more). They did not even ask for any kind of sauce to add to it, because the flavors were SO good. (NOTE: There is a typo on this day. The ingredients list shows 1 tsp. sea salt at the end, but in the instructions, it says to add the final 2 TABLESPOONS of salt. DO NOT DO THAT!!!)
I had to leave to go home the next day, so I assembled the stuffed sweet potatoes for them to cook the next day, and just stuck them in the fridge. All they would have to do is heat for 15 minutes, add cheese and cook for another 10 minutes.
The mom has had to go dairy/egg-free because their baby is nursing and is VERY sensitive to those things, so the alternative choices are BRILLIANT and so helpful to her.
I CANNOT wait to try some recipes for my own household now.
I will be buying ANOTHER copy of this book for your new neighbors across the street who just had a baby about a month ago. It will now become the WEDDING and BABY SHOWER present from me from now on! THANK YOU, DAWN, for telling us about this book. It really IS life-changing!!!

SO exciting!!! This sounds like something that would be amazing in my life!! I love trying to double cook and reinvent things like veggies, rice, and meat for a few meals so this would be awesome! I struggle because so many of these type of meal plans focus on cheese and creams for flavor and my hubby cannot have dairy. That really makes it hard!! My family isn’t huge on chicken four nites in a row either, so this would totally switch it up and save me time!

We eat very healthy and gluten-free (celiac) but we have the same couple of things on rotation and we are all getting bored (especially me the cook) with the same food over and over.
I notice that kids follow what the adults are doing - so if a parent or adult complains about the food so will the kids. We have a no complaining rule at the table - the food and all things - so everyone has to think of pleasant things to say.😇

Oh my gosh I am so excited to try this out I think I definitely will give it a try. I am in the same boat with three little picky eaters and a picky eating husband too! The one thing that absolutely sold me on trying this is not only the time saver and energy saving of making daily decisions about what to make but also the allergy friendly options! My little guy is autistic and gluten free, I'm gluten free, my daughter is rice free (I'll have to do something aside from the rice casserole for her but the Paleo options would work 😉) and my husband is mustard, tomato and peppers (hot peppers bell peppers etc) free... Let's just say cooking in my house can feel like a nightmare on some days but I really want to give this weekly planning a try it would be amazing to not have to cook three different meals just for supper! So happy to see a Midwest mom that doesn’t run on “cream of...” slime! Glad I let RUclips play your cooking video and didn’t make an assumption and skip to you decluttering toys again

Slime? Some moms who use it are doing their best -- and are not feeding their families "slime."

Navigo Delaney You are so right. I didn’t mean to shame any mom trying to do her best. I’m sure it tastes delicious. I’m allergic and lactose intolerant so I don’t know but watching it come out of a can on video is not the most appealing. I just happy to see recipes that don’t include it.

I could easily give this a try (I’m sure my husband would really love having real food for meals again too) he as been home after having had heart surgery (and doing great now, so grateful he is doing well) I always had supper ready & waiting as soon as he got home from work with meat potatoes, veges, & hot rolls, along those lines every day. That was before, now it’s more of a surprise when I do regular healthy full meals at all. It’s just terrible, & it needs to change back to full regular balanced meals (need out of this rut) ! Thanks for sharing, I just happen to come upon your channel, hmm coincidence,or not?

I’ve been using this cookbook for over a year and I love it! I don’t need to be gluten free for any health reasons so sometimes I swap in some real pizza crust! ;) I would say most of the meals are winners, but my husband and I’s favorites are week 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 16, and 25. Don’t be afraid to throw in some rice or green beans to meals you feel like need a little more. Glad to hear you liked the first week! So fun. Love your channel. 😊

Hi! I have not heard of this, yet it looks awesome. Thanks for sharing. I am liking the idea of cooking once for a whole week. Working full time out of home and having 6 kids, coocking can become challenging. I understand the mom guilt of not always eating healthy because of the constant go. I am super happy for you and your family. Please keep us posted 💗

Here's my comment to enter the giveaway! 😁 This would be fantastic for my family! My husband works at the crack of dawn, I'm in school and work part time. By the end of the night, we are EXHAUSTED. We have 4 kids, 3 of them are 2 and under! Also, on the plus side, if you choose me as a winner, we live in Minnesota as well! Cheaper shipping! Or meet up.
Thank you for posting! I love watching your videos. They're GREAT for motivation!

I would love this book. I do prep for the week now but it takes so long and is exhausting. When it's done, it's absolutely worth it, but the process is tough. I'm really enjoying your videos and working towards a minimalist life, too. Thanks for all of the encouragement and wisdom.

Sounds like an amazing cookbook! I've had so much stress alleviated in my life as I started to meal prep. It also helps the budget. Do the recipes ideas go full Keto or just low carb/gluten free?

I cook and shred my chicken the same exact way! The one difference is that I put my chicken in a brine over night. To do this, I put a cup or two of water in the instant pot and hit sauté and then I add a cup of salt and stir until dissolved. Then I take the insert out and add a bunch of ice to cool. As I’m trimming the fat off of the breasts, I plop them in the ice brine and cover with the silicone lid for the night in the fridge. The instant pot really insulates well, so you can actually put it in a cooler over night and there will still be ice in the thing in the morning.
Then drain, leaving a cup of liquid and cook in the instant pot like normal. You’ll never believe the change in flavor!!!! It’s amazing.

With a 7 month old this would be so helpful as we could prep on sunday when both my husband and I are home and be prepared for the week. Also she has started solid foods and it seems easy to make the adjustments for her. I have tried in the past to shop and meal prep but i think i was making it too complicated with too many ingredients. Cant wait to try this.

I broke down and bought one on marketplace for 50 bucks. I am doing pretty well using it a couple times a week at least so far. Much more versatile and easy to clean compared to a crock pot.

This video was exactly what I was looking for! Not all canned ingredients but minimal real ingredients that you can use from meal to the next throughout the week so you are wasting your food and ingredients - genius!!! I would love that cookbook! Don’t worry you aren’t the last one to the instant pot trend! I just got mine on Sunday🤣!

I loved this video. It would be perfect for my daughter. But also I have lupus. Sometimes I have bad, achy days, and don't feel up to doing anything. But by prepping things ahead it wouldn't matter so much about the bad days. I could easily get out the prepped ahead food and have a good meal. Thanks so much! God bless you and your family. Mary from Ohio.
