I kinda think that this is the end of a gay/lesbian relationship. The lyrics scream that they’re in love, or at least not wanting the relationship to end, but the main part of the song is that they need to be out of each other’s lives. Everyone thinks they’re horrible people, so in order to become “happy” again, they have to give up on the one person that makes them want to continue living. This is a more depressing interpretation of the song, and I’m 100% this isn’t what they were thinking when they wrote the song, but I hope you enjoyed it.
