WITHERFALL have this to say about the track:
"‘Shadows’ was the final song written for “A Prelude to Sorrow”. Joseph Michael and Jake Dreyer finished composing it at Joseph’s studio in April of 2018. ‘Shadows’ along with four other tracks from "A Prelude to Sorrow" were set as part of a concept within a concept of the record known as the “Sagan Suite”, the five songs originally ran together. The song is about the empty lives that people lead and also a double entendre representing the remembrance of friends and family since past. ‘Shadows’ is also a metaphor; it represents the sad state of people in today's disconnected, technologically focused and socially awkward world. When someone walks by staring at their cell phone screen without acknowledging the world around them, we call them ‘Shadows’..."
“A Prelude To Sorrow” is the second studio album by US metal act WITHERFALL, the brainchild of Jake Dreyer (Iced Earth) and Joseph Michael (Sanctuary - live) offering dark melodic metal with a progressive edge.
The album will be released as Limited Edition Digipak, jewelcase CD (US only), gatefold 2LP plus poster and etching on Side D as well as digital album. The following limited vinyl colours are available:

Really great musicianship. Love the singer's voice as well, just the right amount of grit; Metal but still very musical. He sounds like a crossover between James LaBrie and Rob Halford; I cannot think of a greater compliment ;-)

This is my favorite song off the album "A Prelude to Sorrow." It was just released today, however, and I've only listened to it once. FYI - I don't consider Witherfall power metal or prog power metal. They are in whatever subgrene the late great Nevermore was in. Regardless of what box you want to place it in, this album and the debut album are extraordinarily good metal. Impressive!

The first two songs released from this album were superb. This song has some issues, unfortunately. It's ok, but not as focused as the first two.
Musically great but the vocals really don#t fit. If they had a good growler I would be buying their records.
I don't understand why some people feel that all metal vocals must be growled, or it's not worth listening to. I'm not against them, they have their place, but growled vocals are not essential to good metal music. It actually gets a little old I think, unless its black or death. Then, yeah for sure. But ALL metal? Not really
Haha, isnt that what they said about Nevermore? The lack of growls is what makes these bands GREAT tho. This is a different kind of guitar work than we normally hear in your typical power metal band. But a vocalist who can do the high notes and all that is so much more interesting to listen to than a growler and it takes a higher skilled vocalist. So we got the best of two worlds of virtuosity maybe.
Agreed. The vocal melodies / harmonies carry the song given the incredible instrumentation in the background. Growls would kill this song and diminish the entire intent of the music.
