So sorry to hear about Betty. I am sure your hearts were broken. We fear the same thing for our two Great Pyrenees too. We have a highway close as well. Have spent tons of time and money training them and securing them. Just when we think they are doing awesome that instinct kicks in and it’s like nothing will stop them.

Thanks, we still think about her often. Thats exactly how the training was for us. They hit maturity and all of sudden their instinct overrides everything they were trained.

So sorry for your loss of Betty. I have a year old Gp that I got from a shelter. I'm retired and with him 24/7 but the other day we went to town and when I took him out of the car, I thought I'm just going to turn him loose and see what he does. He disappeared into thin air is what he did 😀 and I had to go looking for him. We live way off any streets and he didn't go too far and when he saw me, he came to me. So he's fenced again in the daytime and stays inside at night. They are the best dogs but their instincts will for sure take over. You did way more than most people would have done. My boy was a surrender at the shelter from someone who didn't want to make the efforts you made.

Thanks, yes they are awesome dogs. I often feel bad that we have to keep Bernard from roaming free, but we just can't lose him!

I am so very sorry for your loss - it is never easy. It sounds like you did everything in your power to keep your dogs in. I am so very sorry. I enjoy your channel as well and will continue to watch your videos.

Thanks, as much as I tell myself (and try to teach the kids) that with all life comes death, its still never easy to accept.

My fathers chocolate lab has a problem with getting out. No matter what he does she gets out. She crosses a 2 lane one way highway to get to a gas ration to dig in their trash or get an entire pack of burritos…. An entire pack🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️ I’m surprised he hasn’t been hit yet and I feel bad for you guys. That’s a family member first and a lot of money second.

yea you know it. Thats the tough part about dogs. You do whatever you can to keep them safe but their instinct to do what they do overrides it all.

@@woodlandacres exactly. She’s a great dog but she’d be better if she just stay in the yard, you never know if someone poisons what they bring back or if they come back. People here, lot of hunters, shoot a dog. Understandable, I wouldn’t want anything running off my hunt or making a mess of anything but she’s too sweet for any of that and I’ve seen my brothers sweet Pit have to be put down because she got out and someone poisoned her “because she’s a Pit and would hurt someone!” She was the sweetest dog I’ve ever met. Wouldn’t hurt anything.
