This is my first video I've watched of yours. It's very well made and captivating, covering some unique movies I've never even heard of. I appreciate how much time and effort you put into this. Thank you!
One of the most shocking things I've seen as of late was The Coffee Table. I won't spoil anything for those that haven't seen it but, man, there is one scene in particular that made me very uneasy.
Lemme guess...does it involve a 'small' character and said coffee table, perhaps? 😉 I watched it recently after seeing Emma talk about it and I liked it. A bit 'over-stretched' (and I could have done without the brother character who irked the fuck out of me). But boy oh boy, I have to give it to the film-makers for going there with their idea and the ending is just a thing of palpitating gloriously demented beauty
@@sasapejcin3568 It's definitely effed up though, on that I'm sure we can all agree? 😏 Even a sub-plot involving an under aged neighbour was enough to make me go "WTF?!"
Monster is unbelievable. I've recommended it over and over again but everyone is sleeping on it. Just absolutely unmatched cinema/acting/social commentary.
I had it on my radar when it won best screenplay in the Cannes Film Festival last year. Loved it. I don't want to spoil it for anybody, but I can personally relate to the movie.
I have a movie that is pretty disturbing and is rarely talked about: TIDELAND. Its about a little girl whose parents are both junkies. When her mother dies of an overdose her father takes her to an old family farmhouse wich is falling apart and then he dies too but the girl acts like he is still alive. And yes, this is just the beginning of the movie. From then on it just becomes stranger and stranger. The father is played by Jeff Bridges who refused to take a dummy for the corpse scenes and sat there in full rotten corpse make-up for the whole movie while the little girl who plays his daughter sits on his lap and speaks to him and tries to feed him stuff etc. You really have to see it to believe it. The director was Terry Gilliam who made Brothers Grimm at the same time and jumped between two movie sets. I have the DVD and the movie literally starts with the director warning the audience and essentially apologizing to the audience in advance for the film they are about to see wich makes the whole experience even more hillarious. If you are film nerd and your friends are annoying you about film recommendations - just recommend Tideland to them - then they will definitely never ask you again.
Big love for Femme. More great films in this batch I'm gonna need to check out. I recognised the great Trine Dyrholm in the clips of Daisy Diamond and it reminded me of another Danish film she stars in called Queen of Hearts that hasn't left me since I saw it. Definitely one to add to the watchlist. They just remade it in France as "Last Summer" and it was a little bit of a Speak No Evil situation and I stan the original for sure 😆
Awesome, can't wait for your Disturbing Iceberg coming soon Emma!!! Femme is just a brilliant movie, very violent! Acting is absolutely fantastic! I haven't seen the others you mentioned, but I have Playground, Thriller and Moster downloaded and on my to-watch-list so will bump them up a bit. Cheers hun xx
OMG, finally got through '22 Speak no Evil (after a few glasses of wine LOL). Not sure why it flew under my radar but dang was the hype spot on. I had to take a few breaks (days) from watching it in btwn because some of it was not just frustrating but also triggering. The end was beyond. I'd imagine this one could have made the list if people weren't already reviewing it (which yours was one of the best and got me to watch it). Thank you and adding these to mine.
Ive been reading some disturbing books lately, so I decided to stick with the theme and recently re watched Mean Creek, Paranoid Park, Rivers Edge (1986), and The Woodsman. I'm going to now check out a few from this list
OH MY GOD! I love your videos, this one I hate to say, I skipped through everything except the titles. I want to watch ALL of them, you have such an eclectic eye for the types of movies I love. So I promise to come back and watch this and even more than once. I'll even let it play on silent over and over through commercials etc because I don't like even the smallest introductions unless it's questionable, I might use the comment sections. But your channel is different. You give us things nobody has ever heard of and man, that's such a breath of disturbingly fresh air, not stale. So thank you. You're the best movie channel I have come across and I actually only come here now. So keep it up. I can't wait for the iceberg!!!! Way to go. Every movie on this list is waiting for me at home, on my way!
I've been meaning to recommend Sugar (2004) for one of these lists! I watched it when I was a teenager and it stuck with me. It's a dark coming of age drama about a queer teenager in Toronto and the lead actor actually passed away from accidental poisoning shortly after the film was completed.
Thanks for the heads up as always, Em! I'm definitely intrigued with a few of these. And I think I speak for most of us on here when I say that you always MAKE our day, never RUIN it! 😄👌
Recommendation for you Emma: Noémie Says Yes (Noémie Dit Oui), it’s a 2022 French Canadian film that’s not quite as bleak as Lilya 4-ever but similar themes. The lead actress is excellent. I was able to rent it on Vimeo with a VPN set to Canada, with English subtitles. Thanks for all your great recs!
What a good list, once again bringing so many titles I've never heard of before so thanks Emma! For anyone who liked Monster and/or Playground, I recommend 'Close' (2022), also about children and filmed from their perspective. It really stuck with me, a day ruiner for sure.
Skins 2017 was one of my most disturbing watches, and I thoroughly enjoyed it 😌 I love all your lists, especially these, and adore you. Thank you for finding these gems and sharing them with us 💛
loooove the kore-eda shout out, I’m dying to see Monster!! if you haven’t checked out any of his other work, the two I’ve seen, Like Father Like Son & Shoplifters, aren’t necessarily disturbing but did make me cry my eyes out so highly recommend lol
Kore-eda is a genius, he's like The Beatles, he makes one masterpiece after another. Some of my favorites are, Maborosi, Brokers, Nobody Knows,Still Walking and Afterlife, they are all brilliant.
This list was definitely the one! Thriller a cruel picture has to be the top 3 best revenge films od all time, the use of slow motion and how you could believe a girl og that size to get hers, and the heartbreaking chioces through the story really make it the best revenge due
Have you seen Sator (2019)? I haven't seen a lot of people talk about it, but after learning that the director's grandma is in the film and actually experienced automatic writing, it felt way creepier
Recommending this one again: I Start Counting. Also, I haven't watched it in a while but On the Edge (2001) was a film that used to really mess me up. (Also has a young Cillian Murphy in it!). And if you liked Femme you might want to check out the mini series I May Destroy You.
Manic, is one of my favorite movies, I’ve watched it several times. As someone with a chronic mental illness I related so much to the film. It’s very much worth the watch.
Thanks for the list of disturbing films, Emma. None of the films I have seen before, but I will put Thriller: A Cruel Picture, since it is an older film. Trying to focus on the more light-hearted horrors this Halloween month. I'm pretty certain that "Longlegs" will go down as the most disturbing film I've seen this year. I'm afraid that most of the "very disturbing" thrillers I've seen I try to forget about. It's rare when I see a disturbing film that I have to see again, but it happens. I guess it's more about trying to understand what I found so disturbing.
it's been years since I saw Manic! I loved it as a teen, which is maybe indicative of my state of mind back then... I should watch it again and see if I view it differently
somber, quality films ! not sure if you've seen *'Heaven Knows What'* but it belongs here. i couldn't just go back to my day after. it stuck with me. it hit harder cause they cast the girl it's about even though she wasn't an actress, so the pain is palpable and real. it's harrowing but if you can handle the topics, i highly recommend. fun fact: the directors met her (arielle holmes) while working on what'd later become uncut gems. the safdie brothers were so moved by her story that josh hired her to write a memoir which they ended up turning into a screenplay. oh and the movie was praised for their use of music too, like electronica versions of debussy.
”Thriller” - the eye scene was done on a real corpse. Gruesome. Christina Lindberg was a famous pin-up girl in the seventies in Sweden, the dream girl for boys and men (and maybe women) - she looked fantastic. She made other films, often erotic but never did hardcore. The scenes inserted in this one was done by other actors (and totally unnecessary).
Just watched Playground. Really good movie. I never had more crimes committed against me than the time I was in school and this movie really captured that. An absolutely lawless society. Yet again, another great French movie. I watched All Your Faces last night (a quality movie about a program in which convicts speak with victims) and Full Time is one of my favourite recent movies (a thriller about the challenges of a single mother during a transport strike). Hollywood has mostly been utter crap for a while - reboots, remakes and sequels (that all suck), outside of independent movies (you know them by the 20 odd production studio logos at the start) - shout out to Ghostlight, this year, which was a beautiful movie about grief and community and Martha which was the first time I've laughed out loud during a 'comedy' for a while. Thank God we have the rest of the world to keep making movies that engage us and challenge us at a time when Hollywood is failing.
Loved Monster. Great movie, one of the best of last year. I didn't find it disturbing though. Absolutely brilliant story structure. Loved it. Check out Teacher's Lounge whilst you're on your school kids marathon. 😆 It's kinda like an everyday drama shot like a thriller. Like a spiralling situation thing. A bit like Jagten, in a way, but nowhere near as horrifying. LOVE movies like that.
I just watched Daisy Diamond after watching your video , heartbreaking and disturbing . Can't say I enjoyed it ( I don't think disturbing is meant to be enjoyed ) but it has incredible acting , creative story telling and is a well made movie . Very emotional .
One of my favourite movies of all time is the film Irréversible (2002) by Gaspar Noé, a French art thriller film. It is told in reverse-chronological order of events unfolding over the course of one traumatic night in Paris. It is a much disturbing watch!
I haven’t seen you mention cannibal(2006) yet in a disturbing list. It’s based on a true story of a German man who convinced someone over the internet to be a willing victim and cannibalize him. It’s a wild and really gory movie.
I thought you were going to talk about Playground (Plac Zabaw). That one, which is devastating if you don’t know the story, is from 2016 and based on true events.
Unfortunately most of these I can't find I found a copy of Playground at my library and Femme is on Hulu the other's are a no I know I've seen that Joseph Gordon-Levitt movie manic before years ago on cable only watched it because he was in it and never forgot it but also never came across it again Good movie 👍

Time for another list of films! The one that will stay with me and truly affect me will be anything about Sylvia Likens. Mainly The Girl Next Door. An American Crime kinda pissed me off making the poor girls murderers all sympathetic.
sorry it so overwhemling! i get so many messages asking me to watch recommendations! i do note them down it just depends how easy i can find them at the time . thanks for the rec!
@@spookyastronauts ah no worries. I didn't mean to pressure you, you're working so hard with your channel and I'm happy to get whatever recommendations you'll give us. Love your content and thank you so much for your work. ♥️
Are you planning on a reaction to the horror movie called Stream, I hear it is very gory and has an insane cast of legendary horror actors including Tim Curry,Tony Todd, Dee Wallace and Jeffrey Combs. It also stars Terrifier's very own Art the Clown actor David Howard Thornton and Damien Leone helped in the making including special effects.
Femme (2024) is so entertaining and so realistic. Human nature at it's worst. Being fake is common whether you're lgbt or not. I love a good revenge movie gay even better.
I just read about the controversies regarding things that happened on set. I can separate the art from the artist, but I don't think I could support abuse for the sake of art...I am conflicted!😒
all over the place! depends on your country. most you can rent via Vudu. I watched playground 2021 on SBS - but that's an Australian only platform. so its hard to tell everyone from each country where its available to them
The cover art for that film always intrigued me but I never bothered to find out more or watch it. I'll make sure it's the next movie I watch now after ur recommendation. It's on G TV for $5 & im always looking for something to watch. Thanks
@@spookyastronauts thanks for your reply. I was able to find them by "sailing the internet black seas" with the P*rate B*y. Was able to watch all the ones on your list except for Femme (will watch it this weekend.) None of them shocked me but I loved them all. I'm a huge horror fan & love disturbing movies lists but sadly I've seen so many horror/disturbing movies that I've been completely desensitized and nothing "disturbs" me or phases me anymore. I absolutely love your YT channel & even though I've seen most horror films, your vids always have some films that flew under my radar. Keep up the awesome work!
Do you know the movie Thriller with banned for several years because they actually use real cadavers in the movie and it was also one of The Inspirations for Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill Daryl Hannah's character
I don’t even watch disturbing movies but i still enjoy these videos

Time for another list of films! The one that will stay with me and truly affect me will be anything about Sylvia Likens. Mainly The Girl Next Door. An American Crime kinda pissed me off making the poor girls murderers all sympathetic.
Awesome recommendations once again, thank you! I highly highly recommend checking out Purge (2012) by Antti Jokinen.
sorry it so overwhemling! i get so many messages asking me to watch recommendations! i do note them down it just depends how easy i can find them at the time . thanks for the rec!
It also stars Terrifier's very own Art the Clown actor David Howard Thornton and Damien Leone helped in the making including special effects.
just to clarify, the explicit scenes in Thriller are edited in from actually adult films. the actors were not ''actually doing it''.
of course!
@@spookyastronauts 😸 me likes to keep the public informed
Manic also has the great actor Don Cheadle.
Yes! i mention him by name in this video he was great
Femme (2024) is so entertaining and so realistic. Human nature at it's worst. Being fake is common whether you're lgbt or not. I love a good revenge movie gay even better.
Excellent recommendations here, thanks! I thought your summaries were very well written, too. Chef's kiss!
I would have added Irreversible in your list. This film fucked me up for a long time I was enraged when I saw it.
I think I’ve mentioned that on far too many lists! Gasper is my fav I have a whole video on his work
Japan and South Korea have also been known for making disturbing movies and TV shows as well.
Have you ever watched we are the flesh?
That film ruined my weekend 😳
I really want to see Sparta by Ulrich Seidl. Its supposed to be pretty upsetting. It was on John Water's best of 2023, but i cant find it anywhere
Anything John Waters recommend I need to see, let us know if you can ever find it.
He gets access to screeners of really obscure films, I'm jealous 😂@@Dani-se4jo
I just read about the controversies regarding things that happened on set. I can separate the art from the artist, but I don't think I could support abuse for the sake of art...I am conflicted!😒
@@angelacompres7947 read the Variety article. A film board in Austria investigated and found no wrong doing
As soon as I saw the thunbnail I said ooooooo Thriller😊
Where do you stream or find these films?
all over the place! depends on your country. most you can rent via Vudu. I watched playground 2021 on SBS - but that's an Australian only platform. so its hard to tell everyone from each country where its available to them
Thanks I don't know any of these movies! Great tips!
Tyrannosaur (2011). This one is a doozy. Very NSFW and will ruin your day 100%.
The cover art for that film always intrigued me but I never bothered to find out more or watch it. I'll make sure it's the next movie I watch now after ur recommendation. It's on G TV for $5 & im always looking for something to watch. Thanks
@@EddieSmith917 If you're in the US, it's on Tubi for free.
The nightingale did both for me, the start was awful but the ending was beautiful
One word: Found.
where did you watch these movies? Some of them are very hard to find.
all over the place! used my VPN, some on SBS it depends what you have access to
@@spookyastronauts thanks for your reply.
Did you see Nefarious 2023? Just saw tonight. Blew me out of the water.
yes.... but didnt like it . especially when i looked into the background of it
